WOW, what a Friday Funday Fete we had last Friday! So many happy smiling faces having fun. I would like to personally thank all the P & C Executive and the many helpers that came along on Friday to help set up and pack up. Your ‘can-do’ attitude and ‘many hands’ approach made the Fete come together in no time at all. From the cooking in the canteen, cake decorating, second hand book stall, student class stalls, show bags, plant stall, the mega raffle, cake stall, multiple market stall holders, and megamania, there was something for everyone. Specifically, I would like to extend my personal thanks to both Helena Hannan and Emily Harland for their outstanding organisation and commitment to ensuring that all aspects of the Fete ran smoothly and everything went off without a hitch. Without you both at the helm, events like this do not happen. Thank you Helena and Emily. Please see further on in the newsletter for some action from the day. Please see the survey link on the P & C page at the end of the newsletter, to add your feedback on the Fete. Yesterday, the year 5 Leadership program begun. This process is in preparation for our year 6 leaders for 2019. The students go through a program of identifying leadership qualities in significant people in history, review the qualities needed for leadership and develop these through a series of workshops. Our students also self- nominated for leadership positions; school captain, vice school captain and prefects yesterday. Six boys and six girls have been shortlisted and will deliver their speeches to the staff and students later in the term. Voting for positions will happen after their speeches. The leadership positions are announced on Presentation Day 10 December. Exciting times. Thanks to Ms Payne and Mr Eldridge for their work across the leadership program. Save the Date: LIGHT the NIGHT ! For the first time ever, KSPS will be hosting an end of year performance for families and community to come along and enjoy. The event will take place on the oval as an informal gathering with BYO picnic blankets and nibbles. Students will perform their end of year item for your enjoyment. Light the Night is Thursday 6 December, gathering from 5:30pm, performance starts form 6pm-8pm. Can’t wait! As you know, stage 2 have been leading the way with ‘Wrapper Free Wednesday’. Students have been collecting weekly data on the classes that are eliminating waste. We all know it is soft plastics that are the biggest issue in our environment. Thanks to stage 2 students and staff who are committed to making our school a wrapper free. A reminder that school Parliament is on this Thursday in the hall from 2:20pm. This is the opportunity of students have to exercise their ‘student voice’ and practice democracy in our school environment. Parents are always welcome to attend. This Thursday, students from K-2 and HSUB will be involved in Pet Safety Talks K-2 in the hall. These annual talks show, discuss and give scenarios about being safe with pets and other animals. We urge parent to continue this conversation with children for the safety of both the child and the pet. More information to come in next week’s newsletter about the process of approaching an unknown dog to pat it. A reminder that Mr Warren on long service leave for two week Mrs Heidi Lingren replacing him during this time. Did you know that you can use our KSPS Skoolbag app to send an absent note to school? You can also use the Parent Portal to review absences. Please see the front office for further information. NSWPSSA TOUCH FOOTBALL Last Tuesday our KSPS Boys Touch Football Knockout team travelled to Singleton. They competed in the Hunter Region semi-final.

The boys played in a challenging game against Valentine. Unfortunately the boys were defeated 6-4. This is the furthest a Kotara South team has reached in the NSWPSSA Knockout competitions. P&C Association FRIDAY FUNDAY FETE Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you is all I can say to the whole KSPS community for all your support towards our Friday Funday Fete. The day was a great success. The atmosphere was amazing.

I would like to acknowledge and thank the following people who put in so much hard work behind the scenes to make the day happen.

Emily Harland, P&C Secretary, thank you for all your hard work in keeping the ball rolling with the Fete and making sure we stayed on track and making the day run so smoothly and successfully, as well as baking a lot of the delicious cupcakes.

Michelle Ryan for all your effort in obtaining fantastic raffle prizes. To be able to offer 23 raffle prizes, of such outstanding value, was amazing.

Andrew Brock for your assistance in the canteen as well as picking up all the supplies we needed.

Susan Fuller for all your help with the preparation and running of the 2nd hand book stall.

Matt Playdon for organising and running the Grounds and Gardens Plant Stall.

Arianne Galvin & Steve Hill for your help in organising and running the showbags stall. As well as for baking over 150 cupcakes for the cupcake decorating activity!

Andrew Grant for your expert management of the financial side of the fete.

James Martin and Justine Daly for organising the wonderful entertainment during the fete.

To all the parents who volunteered to help out on the first aid stall. The amount of parents who put their hands up was overwhelming, Emily and I are extremely thankful to you all for your help at such short notice.

To all the KSPS teachers for your support towards the class stalls from 2pm to 3pm, as always they were a great hit and a fantastic way to start off our fete.

To all the parents who were able to help us with the set-up, running of the stalls and pack up. It really goes to show what a great community we have in Kotara.

To all the stall holders, Officeworks Kotara, Tradie Wash, Shelley Kearns Independent Tupperware Consultant, SugarPOP Parties, CP Airbrush tattoos, Sprocket coffee as well as Megamania Rides you really helped make our day an event to remember.

And lastly to all the KSPS children and families, thank you for your support towards our P&C Friday Funday.

Regards,

Helena Hannan - PRESIDENT, KOTARA SOUTH PUBLIC SCHOOL P&C ASSOCIATION
