DESCRIPTION

My holistic music therapy model as submitted to the Ministry of Health

TRANSCRIPT

Music has been applied to therapy for centuries. Music Therapy comes from the Greek terms Moussae (Music) and Therapiae (Cure).

Aeschylus, Apollo, Aristophanes, Aristotle, Asclepius, Euripides, Hippocrates, Homer, Orpheus, Pan, Pythagoras, Sappho, Sophocles -to name but a few- were all musicians.

As a music therapist I use all faculties of music (physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic, and spiritual) to help my patients improve their physical and mental health.

Normally there are no specific music genres, however studies have shown that classical music (especially Respighi, Ravel, Bach, Mozart, Chopin) has better results on autism, depression, dementia, anxiety, stroke, amnesia, aphasia, and schizophrenia.

This is because the frequency and dynamic range of an orchestra is huge in comparison say- with a song. My holistic approach involves music listening, musical analysis, history of music, discography, body warm-up, vocal warm-up, singing, improvising (voice and/or instruments), music and poetry, music and painting, music and photography, music and picture.

Through this holistic model, I treat my patients as potential artists, because in fact they are.

By implementing my music education philosophy to music therapy, I unlock the enormous benefits of music to the body, mind and soul of the patient, and transform his life.
