Korean Barbeque• One of the most famous Korean dishes

• one of the popular of Korean barbeque dishes, “bulgogi”, which

has a much longer history (arose during the Goguryeo Dynasty.

Bulgogi called as “makjeok” at the time)

• Apparently, Koreans had ate less beef and the dish almost

disappeared from the culinary landscape as the popularity of

Buddhism and its vegetarian cuisine swept over the land

• Yet, the diet was brought back by invading Mongols, the Chosun

Dynasty took hold of the Korean peninsula and beef came back

as part of the Korean diet, especially amongst the royals

• Still, the most popular Korean barbeque is “galbi”

Japchae• Turns out to be one of the most famous Korean dishes both inside

and outside of Korea

• Originally ‘japchae’ was made without noodles- it was invented

for the King by one of his chefs and he loved it so much and that

it became famous across Korea

• In recent, the noodles were added and become an essential

element to the dish now

• The noodles are made of sweet potatoes which give ‘japchae’ a

very distinct chewy texture

• Besides, the vegetables are all lightly cooked so they retain all

their flavor which produced much of spectacular taste

Omija Tea means “five flavor berry” – sweet, sour, salty, bitter and spicy used as a flavoring for makgeolli

In Korea, the berry is usually turned into a tea that can be consumed by itself or mixed with honey, flower petals, mung bean powder and others to create out a variety of different Korean punches called as hwachae

For daily use, the tea is supposed to be effective or good for colds or other respiratory illnesses, yet, in terms of traditional medicine, ‘omija’ is able to restore one’s liver

Makgeolli the oldest alcohol in Korea

is unfiltered and milky white unlike soju and other clear alcohols

younger generations has been taking it as a fruit cocktail now

it is the best when ‘makgeolli’ is made by hand from pure ingredients (rice)

eat along with pajeon (savory pancake) or mung bean pancake
