 V’Yikra - -“And He Called”

Leviticus 1-5:26“And He called to Moses, and spoke to him from

the Tent of Meeting, saying...”

Every [time God communicated with Moses, whether it was represented by

the expression] , “And He spoke,” or ; “and He said,” or ,

“and He commanded,” it was always preceded by [God] calling [to Moses

by name] (Torath Kohanim 1:2-3). [ ] is an expression of affection, the

[same] expression employed by the ministering angels [when addressingeach other], as it says, “And one called ( ) to the other…” (Isa. 6:3). To

the prophets of the nations of the world, however, He revealed Himself

through expressions denoting coincidence and impurity, as the verse says,

“and God happened to [meet] ( ) Balaam” (Num. 23:4). - [BemidbarRabbah 52:5Saturday, March 16, 13

OLAH

✤ Means “burnt offering”, “ascent”, or “stairs”

✤ Could be a bullock, sheep, goat, turtledoves, or pigeons

✤ In this offering, the animal would be burned completely on the altar.Nothing was left behind or eaten by the priests or the offerer. Thissignifies the offering of oneself completely to the affairs of Heaven.

Also the burning away of the flesh is symbolized.✤ This offering is voluntary

✤ Adonai asked Abraham to take Isaac and sacrifice him as an olah

(Bereshiyt / Genesis 22)Saturday, March 16, 13

MINCHA

✤ Means “Offering”, “Gift”, or “Tribute”.

✤ Consisted of Fine Flour, shemen (oil), and frankincense, depending onhow it was offered; either raw, or cooked in a pan, oven, or pots. Itcould also be accompanied by the firstfruits of a crop, or by otherofferings. It was unleavened, symbolizing sinlessness.

✤ It is a gift, voluntary, showing our gratitude to Adonai for His blessing. It is also a way to give back: Part of the mincha would go tothe Levites to support them.

✤ Found in Leviticus 2

ZEBACH SHALOMIM -

✤ Means “Peace Offering”, sometimes translated “Thanks Offering”

✤ Consisted of a bull, sheep, or goat

✤ This offering would be given when the giver wanted to give thanks toAdonai for specific provision, miracles, or life-changing events. Itwould also be used after teshuvah. In this offering, both the Most

High, the Kohen (Priest), and the offerer (and perhaps their family andfriends!) partake of the meat. It indicates fellowship, thanks, and arestoration of relationship between all parties involved.

✤ Found in Leviticus 3

CHATA’AT

✤ This offering was meant for various leaders and the entire assembly

in case of unintentional transgression. It was meant for the priests, thewhole congregation of Israel, and the ruler.

✤ If a Kohen (Priest), or the entire assembly offended, a bull would beoffered. If a ruler offended, a goat would be offered. In cases of

poverty, turtledoves or pigeons can be used.

✤ This is a mandatory offering. It shows us that we need to seek theforgiveness of the Most High and right our wrongs with Him.

‘ASHAM

✤ Called “Guilt Offering” or “Trespass Offering” in English

✤ This offering would be given if the person sinned ignorantly through

negligence. It is especially referring to situations in which makingthings right would have been possible.

✤ Lamb or Goat would be offered, turtledoves/pigeons, or flour if onecannot afford a lamb or goat

✤ A difference between ‘Asham and Chata’at is that this offering(‘Asham) would be performed in situations in which restitution must be made for our neighbors, or for sinning against the Most High, whereas Chata’at is unknowingly committing sins that don’t

necessarily cause problems for our neighborsSaturday, March 16, 13

 What about

Yeshua?Where does the Messiah fit in to all of

this?

We have all been taught that

Yeshua is the final sacrifice. Butdoes that teaching hold water?

What is it that Yeshua did for us,

anyways?

Unintentional vs. Intentional Sins

Jewish apologetics maintain that there is no offering given for intentional

sin...are they correct?

“For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the

truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking

for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.”

Hebrews 10:26-27

But the soul that does presumptuously, born in the land, or a stranger, the

same reproachs ; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

Because he hath despised the word of , and hath broken his

commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon

him. -Numbers 15:30-31

INTENTIONAL SIN FORGIVEN

And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against . And Nathan said

unto David, also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. -2Sam 12:13

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. -Tehillim/Psalm 32:1

And El saw their works, that they [Ninevah] turned from their evil way;and El repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them;

and he did it not. -Jonah 3:10

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your

uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. -Ezekiel 36:25

Psalm 51

HOW ARE INTENTIONAL SINS

FORGIVEN?

1. Intentional sin is more than just an act done intentionally...it refers tocontinuing in this state of defiance while knowing the truth, thus;

2. Intentional sin is the sin of not repenting from a sin you havecommitted knowingly. This is the same “Blasphemy against the Ruachha’Kodesh” that is spoken of in Matthew 12:31

3. In the truest sense of the word, in harmony with Numbers 15:30 andHebrews 10, intentional sins are not forgiven, UNLESS

4. One acknowledges sin before Adonai, confesses, and makes teshuvah

Just as teshuvah (repentance) is

vital for atonement...The blood of a perfect substitute is required also...

“For the life of the flesh is in the blood:and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.”(Leviticus 17:11)

Messiah’s

Pattern - Pesach✤ Blood of the lamb on the doorpost,

dipped with a hyssop branch

(Psalm 51)

✤ Ruach will pass-over (either intothe House, just like the Holy Spiritenters us - or over the house, as theDeath Angel will go over us)

✤ Whoever was in the house, theirfirstborn would be saved - just asIsrael, the firstborn of Yah, will besaved from the second death

Pattern: Yom

Kippur✤ The kohen would lay hands on

the goat and confess ALL the

sins of the people onto it (not just unintentional)

✤ It would be led out into thewilderness, as Yeshua was led

outside the Camp

✤ It would be hurled into therocky crags, just as Yeshuawent into the grave (Sheol)

the offerings of made by fire...” -Lev 6:18
