The company was founded by James (Jim) Sutton in 1956 and his first piece of equipment was a Fordson Major tractor with a front loader.
The company quickly progressed during the sixties using dozers, rope excavators and early hydraulic machines.
In 1977 the relationship with Komatsu began when two D50S-15 Crawler Loaders were added for a road project near New Ross in Co Wexford .
Following Jim’s untimely death in 2002 the second generation of Garrett, Timothy and Kevin have continued to build the business which is based at Broomhill, Fethard-on-Sea, Co. Wexford while participating in Civil Engineering, excavation and Demolition projects throughout Ireland
Today Sutton Plant Hire have an extensive fleet of Komatsu equipment including Dozers, Hydraulic Excavators and Compact machines.
“The 228 is a huge hit with our customers because it has the power and stability of a large Machine” said Garrett . “our customers often have jobs where there is little room to work, the 228 can work in a traffic lane without the worry of the back-end hitting something.”
The PC228USLC-3 is equipped with the latest KOMTRAX™ technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure website utilising wireless technology. Data such as operating hours, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis. The KOMTRAX™ fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiently and productively.
Special features of the PC228USLC-3 include: • Low Emissions Engine The excavator is equipped with the newly developed, powerful, low emission Komatsu SAA6D107E-1 electronically controlled common rail type engine that significantly reduces Nox emissions by 29% with an accurate multi-staged fuel injection system. The engine meets EPA Tier 3 and EU stage 3A emission regulations without sacrificing power or machine productivity. The PC228USLC-3 is equipped with working modes designed to match engine speed, pump flow and system pressure to specific application requirements, giving the operator flexibility to match equipment performance to the job at hand. Economy mode now features four level settings, allowing the operator to

achieve required production with the lowest possible fuel consumption. In the power mode the machine is set for maximum-horsepower operation. Even if the pressure varies with the pump load, the engine speed is properly controlled and the engine is always used near the rated output point. This mode is suitable for large production and heavy-load work since the engine output is fully utilized.
The lifting mode gives the operator seven percent more lifting force on the boom making it ideal for situations such as lifting heavy pipe, or precise control with heavier loads. A breaker mode is now provided as an independent function that allows for maximum production and power.
• Maintenance Made Easy Equipped with Komatsu’s exclusive EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System), the PC228USLC-3 was designed to reduce costly downtime. EMMS continually monitors all critical excavator systems, alerting and guiding the operator should a problem
occur. By preventing a small problem from becoming a major service issue, EMMS contributes to operating cost reduction. The system also tracks the preventative maintenance schedule, providing on-board warning as required maintenance becomes due. Error codes and troubleshooting assistance are available at the EMMS display which minimize diagnosis and repair time.
• Spacious and quiet cab Komatsu’s low-noise cab design uses a pressurize highly rigid cab and air filter to reduce noise and prevent external dust from entering the cab. The cab rests on fully-viscous damping mounts, minimize vibration and noise from the machine body and reducing operator fatigue. An electronic engine, highly rigid cylinder block, low-noise muffler design and optimal arrangement of sound absorbing materials throughout the engine compartment further reduce dynamic noise.

A few days before the grand opening of Bauma 2010, which took place in Munich Germany, on April 19-25 2010, a volcano in Iceland suddenly exploded and spewed its gigantic cloud of ash high into the sky, paralyzing Northern European airports for nearly 10 days. The effects of this generalized flight ban were very visible during the first days of the biggest fair in the construction and earth moving business, with nearly 50 exhibitors unable to make it in time. Many travellers from Asia and North America found it all but impossible to attend, and hundreds of continental visitors had to resort to long trips by rail and road to reach Munich. But despite these last minute difficulties, and a 17% reduction in attendance compared to Bauma 2007, organizers were pleased to declare Bauma 2010 a great success, a turning point in the industry, with a record number of exhibitors and close to 415,000 visitors from over 200 countries.
European premiere for Komatsu’s PC200-8 Hybrid Excavator
Located in Hall B5, the Komatsu stand spread out over 4,300 m², in a visually impressive yet cosy display of state of the art technology and engineering excellence. It welcomed many thousands of visitors to a selection of Komatsu’s newest models and latest technological innovations and to its integrated package of aftermarket services and options specially designed to offer customers lower total costs for machine operation and maintenance. At the centre of attention, the PC200-8 Hybrid Excavator - the only of its kind in production in the world today- was presented to the European public for
the first time. All around it was a skilful display of 30 big and small, productive and comfortable, efficient and eco-friendly Komatsu machines including the new PW148-8 wheeled excavator, the D65WX-16 Dozer with its foldable Inpat blade, a PC290LC/NLC-8 High Reach Demolition crawler excavator and the WA150PZ 6 wheel loader.
KOMTRAX™always a star attractionAn especially attractive feature of the Komatsu exhibition was the KOMTRAX Centre’s multi-media demonstration of the advantages and outstanding service that come with the purchase of a Komatsu machine. Big visuals, videos, an expert’s corner, and an interactive game encouraged visitors to learn the details of how Komatsu’s exclusive satellite monitoring system allows proactive and preventive maintenance, helps customers to easily and cost effectively manage a whole fleet of Komatsu machines and can assist in efficiently running a business. Activated on over 19,000 machines in Europe
alone, KOMTRAX™ is considered by many as the most advanced and practical monitoring system on the market today. It facilitates top productivity and can represent a major cost advantage. The Parts info point proposed interesting promotions of Komatsu Genuine Parts and a free walk-around inspection of a Komatsu machine. The live presentation of Genuine eco-white filters drew large crowds.
Press Conferenceand VIP EventAt Komatsu’s press conference, attended by over 40 international journalists, Mr. Akira Sugiki; CEO of Komatsu Europe International, presented Komatsu’s latest results and the company’s strategies and goals for the upcoming years. In his statement, Mr. Sugiki declared that the two years since the global financial crisis have been an opportunity for Komatsu to structurally reform its European operations and put the company in an ideal position to cope with the recovery and the new economic environment.
“Our aim is to use these structural reforms to improve our sales, our market share and our after-sales support, and to better serve our customers” said Mr. Sugiki. “Today, thanks to KOMTRAX™ data, clear signs of increased machine activity are being detected in the European market area”. He added: “Komatsu is one of the best-performing companies in the equipment supply business and we are now ready to fight back”.
For Komatsu, the Bauma international fair was a great success. It exceeded all expectations and placed a very positive mark on the year 2010.

McHale receives order for several new modelPC160LGP-8Hydraulic Excavators
The first PC350 LC-8 LR 17 metre Long Reach machine launched at the Bauma Show this year has gone to work on a site on the Shetland Islands.
The long reach 17m excavation boom and arm are purposely designed, following Komatsu’s standards, to provide maximum performance and durability in digging applications with a productive bucket size. It provides a solution that standard excavators simply cannot offer, suitable in a variety of applications from relatively light duty work on waterway maintenance to heavy-duty production work in sand and gravel extraction ,as well as slope stabilization, dredging and road construction applications. The PC350LC-8 LR now joins Komatsu’s well established special product line up, completing the existing the PC600LC-8LR 19m machine, as well as a full range of Super Long Fronts ranging from PC600 down to PC 130(working reach of 12.3 m)
Like all machines in the Dash 8 range, the PC350LC-8 LR is fitted with Komtrax, Komatsu’s Satellite Monitoring System. Machine data is easily accessible over the internet and allows owners or fleet managers to view the machines location, performance and service requirments. Komtrax can even help secure equipment, and will e-mail the owner or fleet manager when a machine shows a caution alert or if is activated outside an engine lock period.
Designed to offer total safety for both the operator and people working around the machine, the PC350LC-8 LR features Komatsu’s unique Roll-over cab, specifically developed for hydraulic
excavators. Over €1,000,000 was spent on testing this life saving feature, and the cab’s tubular steel frame protects the operator even if the machine rolls over. Furthermore, to help prevent accidents, the excavator includes a travel alarm, and a rear view camera which all are standard.
With a heated air suspension seat, the cab provides a very comfortable and quiet working environment. The operator is only exposed to an amazingly low 68 dB (A) whist in the cab.Standard on the PC350LC-8 LR is the largest colour monitor panel on the market. This ergonomic finger tip controlled operating panel allows easy access to the work modes, cab-climate control and a full colour image from the rear mounted camera.
The PC350LC-8 LR also comes standard with Komats’s own automatic grease system, sealed bucket linkage, HCU for tilting bucket attachments and quick coupler piping for convenient and rapid changes of attachments. Sliding proportional joystick buttons, are fitted giving the operator comfortable and accurate control of attachments.
The operator can choose between 5 Working Modes to optimise performance and fuel usage, the ECO gauge on the right side of the monitor panel lets him see at a glance just how hard the machine is working. In Economy Mode, and with Komtrax activated, fuel usage can be easily monitored for maximum fuel efficiency and minimum nitrogen oxide(NOx) emissions.

Komatsu supplies fleet of equipment to the new
MOOLARBEN COAL MINEOne of the newest coal mines in Australia has recently commissioned a fleet of Komatsu equipment, allowing it to start exporting coal in May this year
– just 18 months after works started on what was a greenfield site.
McHALE PLANT SALES NEWS Issue 6 Winter 2010

The Moolarben mine,
north of Mudgee,
NSW, had its official
opening at the
beginning of August,
when 220 guests
from around Australia
and overseas joined
employees and
students from the
Ulan Public School for
the celebrations at the Moolarben
mine, north of Mudgee.
Representatives of partners in
the project, Yancoal Australia,
Sojitz from Japan and a Korean
consortium, uncovered a plaque
to mark the opening of the $450
million project. The mine will have
a life of more than 20 years, with
both open cut and underground
extraction of thermal coal from the
Moolarben seam, most destined
for shipment by rail to the Port of
Newcastle for export. The Komatsu
fleet at the mine includes twelve
830E dump trucks (with a further
four to follow), five D475A-5 dozers
(with a further two in March),
three D375A-5 dozers, a WA1200-
3 loader, two WA200-6 loaders, a
PC450-8 excavator, two GD825-3
graders, two SK820-5 skidsteers,
two HD785-5 water carts (with
another to follow) and one HD785-
3 service truck.
According to Mike Ries, open cut
maintenance manager at Moolarben,
Komatsu equipment was selected
as it offered the best option of
delivery times, pricing and support.
Commissioning of the equipment
began in October 2009, and was
largely completed by January this
year. “The commissioning process
went very well,” said Mike. “We
worked closely with the Komatsu
people, and we were able to share
our experience and expertise to get
the job done. “All the equipment is
achieving its budgeted availability,
plus we’ve got good OEM support
from Komatsu on site, giving us
the technical support we need and
supplying us very well with spare
parts,” he said. Initial overburden
operations began in November
last year, allowing the
first shipment of coal
to be transported to
Newcastle in May.
Brian Flannery of
Yancoal – one of
Moolarben’s major
shareholders – paid
tribute to all who had
brought the mine into
production less than 18 months
after commencement. “To have
the first train of coal head to the
Port of Newcastle from Moolarben
in May of this year is a remarkable
achievement, considering work
didn’t start on site until March
last year,” he said. Brian Flannery
said Moolarben looked forward
to becoming a responsible and
responsive member of the Ulan
and Mudgee communities. “We
will make significant contributions
at local, regional, state and
national levels,” he said. “As well
as employing over 320 local people
at full production, and generating
1,400 indirect jobs, Moolarben
will contribute $5.9 million to the
Mid-Western Regional Council and
generate $2 billion in royalties for
the state and the people of NSW
over the life of the mine.”

The Mobicat MC 160 is a first-class plant: An overall
weight of almost 400 tons, over 9 m high and approx.
35 m long, it is designed for maximum efficiency. In
order to be able to feed the planned charge quantities
of up to 1500 t/h into the crusher, an apron conveyor
is used as a feeding unit. This sits on a separate chassis
with its own drive system and a hopper suitable for
charging by dumper. The main unit consists of a grizzly
using a double-deck roll screen and the SStR 1600
crusher, a single toggle jaw crusher with feed size of
1600 x 1250 mm, which already adds a good 80 tons
to the weight.
Application in ChileFrom the start of next year the operation site of the
machine will be an iodine production mine in the
Atacama desert in northern Chile. Here huge quantities
of stone containing iodine will be mined. Before the
typical mining process of leaching and loosening, the
MC 160 crushes the stone to a size of 0-250 mm. As a
lot of material in the final grain size is already available
in the charged material, efficient primary screening is
particularly important. This is achieved using a double-
deck roll screen in place of a conventional screen.
Apron conveyorwith XXL feed hopperThe feeding unit already impresses with its dimension
and performance details. A 225 kW diesel engine
powers the hydraulics for the crawler running gear,

and a separate generator makes available power for
maintenance purposes and some auxiliary functions.
The feed hopper is almost 8.5 m wide on the feeding
side and can hold volumes of up to 200 m³. The apron
conveyor itself has a working width of approx. 1600
mm; the length between the axis is almost 12 m.
Roll screens ensure efficient primary screening and the
large crusher guarantees huge crushing capacity.
On the main unit two back-to-back roll screens with
a width of 1.60 m and an overall length of 5.60 m
ensure efficient primary screening. The crusher unit
is suitable for feed sizes of up to 1400 mm. Powered
by a 250 kW electric motor, which is supplied by a
580 kW diesel engine, sufficient power is available for
maximum feed capacities in all situations. Just like all
the Kleemann machines used in quarries, the diesel-
electric drive concept used here also allows the plant to
be connected to an external power source. The crusher
discharge conveyor is 1.80 m wide and over 12 m long
and thus offers sufficient capacity to safely and reliably
discharge the material into stockpiles.
Kleemann GmbH is a member company of the
Wirtgen Group, an expanding and international group
of companies doing business in the construction
equipment industry. This Group includes the four well-
known brands, Wirtgen, Vögele, Hamm and Kleemann,
with their headquarters in Germany and local production
sites in the United States of America, Brazil and China.
Worldwide customer support is provided by 55 sales
and service companies.

Komatsu America Corp. Demonstrates Its“Green” Hybrid PC200LC-8 Excavator in Los AngelesMachine Surpasses Customer’s Expectations
Late in 2009, Komatsu America introduced
the first of ten Hybrid PC200LC-8 excavators
into the U.S. market to test the innovative
equipment that was designed to reduce
environmental impact by saving fuel and
reducing green house emissions. On March
11, 2010, representatives from Komatsu,
along with representatives from the California
Air Resources Board (CARB), the office of
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa,
the contractor Griffith Company, and local
Komatsu dealer Savala Equipment Company,
Inc.—which has been using a Hybrid PC200LC-
8—gathered for a demonstration of the hybrid
excavator at work at the Port of Los Angeles.
The Komatsu hybrid excavator is one of a number
of other kinds of “green” machines that the
Port of Los Angeles has introduced or tested,
resulting in reduced diesel emissions that comply
with a Clean Air Action Plan that was adopted in
November 2006 by the ports of Los Angeles and
Long Beach.
Brea-based contractor Griffith Company has seen
positive results with the Hybrid PC200LC-8. Dan
McGrew, VP of Business Development for the
Griffith Company said that they were skeptical
at first, but the hybrid excavator “surpassed all
expectations while using 30% less fuel.” McGrew
noted that the hybrid excavator has a shorter
cycle time than a conventional excavator, and
concluded that Komatsu’s Hybrid PC200LC-8 is a
“fantastic machine.”
There are 700 of Komatsu's hybrid excavators
already in use at construction sites in China
and Japan. "Komatsu's decision to apply its
engineering excellence to the largest construction
machine segment clearly signals our commitment
to developing environment-friendly equipment,"
said Dave Grzelak, chairman and CEO of Komatsu
America Corp.
Powered by the Komatsu Hybrid System, the
Hybrid PC200LC-8 uses a newly developed
electric swing motor, power generator motor,
capacitor and diesel engine. Komatsu developed
its revolutionary hybrid system to work on the
principle of swing energy regeneration and energy
storage using the Komatsu Ultra Capacitor system.
Komatsu’s Ultra Capacitors provide fast energy
storage and instantaneous power transmission.
In tests comparing the standard PC200LC-8
hydraulic excavator to the Hybrid PC200LC-8,
the hybrid model reduced fuel consumption
by approximately 25-40%, depending on the
application.

Series production of the new MR 110 EVO and MR 130 EVO starts with several months of extensive testing and various prototypes successfully behind it.The proof of the pudding is in the eating, as they say. And the question on everybody‘s lips for a brand new design is whether or not its practical use will confirm that which was developed in theory. After approximately one and a half years under development, the first prototype was put to the test in late summer of 2009. And initial results have already impressively shown that the entire concept is spot-on. Right from the very start, the smaller of the two plants, the MR 110 EVO, was able to achieve a maximum feed capacity of 350 t/h without a problem.
Initial tests confirm that extremely high continuous output is possibleThe first tests were carried out at a recycling centre located near to Kleemann‘s headquarters
in Göppingen, Germany. The charged material was made up of mixed demolished concrete from demolition waste, initially containing relatively low amounts of ferrous material. Feed sizes generally remained below 600 mm. When they occasionally exceeded this, however, not once did it pose a problem for the adjustable, remote-controlled cover at the crusher inlet. The most varied of materials were experimented with over the course of the first test phase, which often included demolition waste containing high levels of ferrous material to push the technology to its limit. The results were very promising: The plant was able to maintain the high performance values even at continuous output. It soon became apparent that, thanks to the new material flow concept, wear and tear at important points such as rotor ledges or the discharge conveyor belt could be considerably reduced. And, of course, any additional problems that emerged were also recognised and successfully rectified.
New generation ofKleemann Impact Crushersput to the test
It was important for the plants to be tested by different customers or operators in order to gather a varied selection of feedback for the new operating concept. This also guaranteed that a wide range of charged material was crushed during the test phases.
Cold testing conditions at timesOne of the test stations was a company in the Allgäu region in Southern Germany. Here, the plant was again put through its paces for the most varied of applications and, thanks to a fairly severe winter with temperatures reaching as low as -23 degrees, also tested under genuinely cold conditions. First, there were several thousand tons of gravel broken, then slabs of asphalt were processed, followed by reinforced concrete with larger and smaller pollution ratios. Feed capacities of 350 t/h were consistently achieved over longer periods of time and were even occasionally exceeded.
The larger plant from the new series, the MR 130 EVO, was also comprehensively tested. As
operation of this prototype took place some time later, the experience gained from testing the MR 110 could be implemented and any „teething problems“ avoided from the outset. And here, too, the potential of these machines was immediately apparent. A maximum feed capacity of 450 t/h was quickly realised and, at times, considerably exceeded. During the first test, for example, the MR 130 prototype proved to be significantly faster in asphalt recycling than originally planned.
Test conclusion: The concept works! Enormous capability with significantly greater economic efficiencyThese extensive testing procedures, which included all possible plant applications in use today (in one case even slag was processed), confirmed what had been proven in theory. The two plants are both cost-effective and resistant to wear; the new material concept not only effectively allows for better performance but also increased durability. Longer service life, together with an extremely efficient direct drive, lead to noticeable savings in operation costs. All in all, a major success for Kleemann.

McCloskey International were so confident of selling the two new models of screeners that it brought to the Bauma Show that it only booked one-way tickets for them from Northern Ireland!
The confidence was justified as both the S80 and the R70 now have new owners who took them home after the show .Neither buyer had been in touch with the company or its German dealer, Apex-Lieben Crush & Screentec, prior to the show but both were impressed when they saw them on the stand. They both took advantage of special show prices to make a decision straight away.
The S80 has been bought by Abfalter and will be put to work in a gravel pit in southern Germany, although it could also be used for the company’s road construction and recycling operations.
The R70 is also staying in Germany. It has been bought by a recycling business and is intended for use in the company’s yard as well as out on sites.
Particular features that helped clinch the deal included an extra grizzly section above top deck for breaking sticky materials into smaller pieces. Another special feature is that it is the only machine of its size with a hopper extension, allowing it to be loaded from the back.

So, why should I buyGenuine Filters?
Please contact our Service Department
for more information
BirdhillCo. Tipperary
Tel: 061 379112
Manufacturers are always telling customers they should buy genuine products for their construction and mining equipment, rather than various "will-fit" parts and components. Even where manufacture and supply of certain parts and components is outsourced to third-party suppliers, you will generally find that the OEM has specified certain proprietary features in those parts which bear its brand-name. Genuine filters have been specifically designed by the manufacturer to give the best performance and reliability.
Certainly, manufacturers could be accused of having a vested interest in getting customers to buy genuine, but there is something in this for the customer as well: improved performance, reliability and overall life of your equipment. This is because genuine parts and components have been `specced up` by the manufacturer to best meet the performance needs of the machine. Even where manufacture and supply of certain parts and components is outsourced to third-party suppliers, you will generally find that the OEM has specified certain proprietary features in those parts which bear its brand-name.
Take the example of filters. Genuine Komatsu filters have been developed as a result of thorough and repeated tests when installed on the machine from all angles of filtering efficiency and durability. Komatsu-branded filters are designed to take into consideration factors such as horsepower, oil pressure, oil temperature and types of oil used in Komatsu engines. In addition, the filtering area of Komatsu genuine filters is larger than that on imitation products, thereby adding to the dependability and reliability of your machine.
Now let`s look at the properties of specific filters.
Fuel filters: Fuel contains impurities such as dirt, water and rust. The fuel acts as a lubricant to vital parts such as pumps and injectors. Genuine Komatsu fuel filters provide excellent filtering performance to help reduce repair costs to your machine.
Hydraulic filters: Hydraulic system and transmission repairs are arguably the single most expensive part any repair bill. Komatsu hydraulic filters offer excellent heat and pressure resistance, combined with outstanding filtration characteristics -- and are
designed specifically for use with Komatsu hydraulic components.
Air filters: Komatsu air filters feature a specially treated filtration medium. This medium, developed by Komatsu over many years for its own range of equipment, guarantees greater protection from dust and other airborne contaminants.
Coolant filters: Scale and dirt in the cooling system collects a places where water flow is minimal, reducing the cooling effect. Komatsu corrosion filters not only filter damage causing particles but also release Komatsu`s own specially formulated chemicals into a machine`s cooling system.
Finally, it`s often thought that buying non-genuine parts and components will save you money. Compare Komatsu genuine filter prices with others on the market, and you`ll find they compare very favourably in price -- plus the added performance and reliability of your machine can easily make them a less expensive proposition in the long run. We`ve talked here a lot about filters -- but many of these comments are equally applicable to a wide range of parts and components where you have a choice between genuine and non-genuine.
