It has been a pleasure to visit classrooms over the last two weeks and seeing students engaged in their learning and trying their best. I have been particularly impressed with the writing in Room 1 that was shared at our assembly on Friday. On that note, it has been nice to have par- ents back in the school grounds and being part of our assemblies. Over the next few weeks students will be undergoing some assessment in preparation for re- ports going out early next term. The assessments are a mixture of paper-based tests and one- on-one interviews with teachers. At Kokopu School, our focus for assessment is gain knowledge about what your child knows and where their next learning steps will be. This will also be re- flected in their reports. It was great to see our PTA meeting again last week. The first time since lockdown. The PTA is a crucial part in the schools ability to purchase the extra things that normal funding does not cover. I encourage you to get involved. Our school council have also been busy and have gathered their classes ideas for events and projects around the school. Two projects they have already identified are a new ball pump for the PE shed and they are designing a lost property box that will help us sort the different types of clothing. Last week was support staff appreciation week. Support staff include our cleaner, caretaker, admin, after school care and teacher aides. We are very lucky here at Kokopu school to have such a wonderful team of who work hard for the kids and school. Again, thank you for all your support as parents and it is nice to be able to have face to face conversations again. Nga mihi nui, Yaron Overeem, Principal. Carpark Morning Drop Off and Afternoon Pick Up Thank you for your support with dropping off and picking up children at the gate during alert level 2. This system worked very well and we would like to continue to have parents come to the gate to collect children when picking them up in the afternoon. This system keeps the children safe. We have had a couple of near misses in the carpark when children have run out when they see their parents or their parents call out to them. We will now have a teacher on duty at the gate to ensure children do not go into the carpark without adult supervision. We also ask you not to use the teachers carpark at the top please, as there is no turning room and backing out is a problem. Thank you for your co-operation. Friday Sharing Assembly We are back to having our Friday Sharing Assembly at 2.30pm every Friday afternoon. This is a chance for parents to come along and see some of the learning our tamariki have done over the week. Please feel free to join us, you are most welcome.
