As Shihan Tomiyama goes around the world on his travels, he meets many local dignitaries who are often supporters of the national Kofukan organization he is visiting. He now has some beautiful Japanese fans that have been supplied to him by our sponsors Mottox in conjunc- tion with Asahi Media, who arranged the design, that he

can give as gifts on such occasions. Senior instructors and some individual tournament winners have also been recipients. Displaying the fans in our picture with Shihan Tomiyama, from left to right, are Rene Poulsen and Jonas Bisgaard of Denmark, Domenico ‘Mimmo’ Graziano of Norway, Shamil Petersen of Denmark and Maria Oinas of Sweden. We are very pleased and grateful to our sponsors for the donation of these elegantly designed and useful fans.

Doshisha University Karate-do Club Kenshu-juku Doshisha University Karate-do Club Kenshu-juku is a group of the club's graduates who learn and practise Master Fujimoto's karate. It was started in the early 90s by a very small number of people who asked Master Fujimoto to teach them. I started learning from Master Fujimoto, together with Mr. Ishigaki and Mr. Ogawa, in the early 80s, so the group started about 10 years later than us. I have been visiting Japan every year and joined their training to practise un-der Master Fujimoto. The group gradually grew and now has about thirty members, consisting of people from 40 years to over 80 years old.

They have been holding summer camps for some time but I only started to participate in them a few years ago. Then, unfortunately, Mas-ter Fujimoto's health started to dete-riorate so he asked four people, in-cluding me, to conduct the training sessions on his behalf. The four people (Mr. Takiguchi, Mr. Inagawa, Mr. Shibamoto and I) are the ones who received Inga

(certificate of succession) from Master Fujimoto. Since Master Fujimoto died in 2012, they asked me to come to teach at the camp every year. So I started going there to learn and ended up teaching, which I am honoured to do. Here are two photos from last year's camp. Master Fujimoto's widow and daughter came to say hello and are pictured with the group above.

Doshisha University Girls won the West Japan Team Event! The West Japan Universities Karate Championship was held on Sunday 25th May 2014 and Doshisha University female team won their section. They met Kinki University at the final and beat them 2-1. They met at the final last year as well; on that occasion, Kinki University won, so they have reversed their fortunes. This year's team is strong, winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd places at the previous Kansai Region individual event in April. The male team also did well, as they achieved best 8, beaten by Osaka Shogyo University 2-3 at the quarter final. We send congratulations and best wishes to the teams and all involved. 30th Anniversary of Karate Club Ljutomer Karate Club Ljutomer in Slovenia celebrated its 30th Anniversary on Sunday 6th April. Rihard Zibrat (4th Dan), its leader, had been a successful competitor himself but his biggest achievement is to have produced many national champions and national team members. He is also a current national and international referee. The celebration consisted of a seminar with Shihan Tomiyama followed by demonstrations by current members, introduction of past and present national champions of the club and a reception. Rihard, 4th from right at the front of our picture, made a short speech thanking his members, supporters and especially his wife for her understanding. He has a busy full time job and, without her support, he could not have succeeded in running such a successful club. We congratulate him on his hard work and wish him many more successful years developing Karate Club Ljutomer.
