TransportationExpress commuter trains reach Chicago’s Loop in 21 minutes. Four CTA bus lines connect Evanston to the city and nearby suburbs. The Edens Expressway (I-94) is just west of town. Sheridan Road, which runs along the Lake, becomes Lake Shore Drive as you head into the city.

Shopping & DiningSpecialty stores, art galleries attract locals, city dwellers and suburbanites. Every Saturday in summer for the past 30 years there is a farmers market near Oak and University Place. GLENCOE


First Settled in 1845 as the Lake Michigan shipping center of Port Clinton, Highland Park has upheld a proud tradition of gracious lakefront living for over 100 years. Situated on tall bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan, the community covers about 12 square miles and is home to just under 30,000 residents. The Ravinia area takes its name from these ravines and is home to Ravinia Park, which is famed for its annual summer music festivals dating back to the late 1800’s.



TransportationExpress commuter train service reaches Chicago’s Loop in just over 30 minutes. The Edens Expressway is just west of the village. Pace provides regular community bus service.

Shopping & DiningSmall boutique stores line the streets of historic downtown Highland Park and lead you into Port Clinton Square with more shops, restaurants and fun! The Ravinia Business District and the Crossroads Shopping Center also highlight this bustling community’s many commercial and dining outlets. In addition Northbrook Court and Old Orchard mall are just minutes away.

SchoolsHighland Park’s nationally acclaimed schools offer a comprehensive curriculum, with over 90% of graduates going on to college. Eight grade schools, three middle schools and Highland Park High School serve the area. A number of private/parochial schools serve the area also.

RecreationPublic beaches, a boat launching ramp, a fully-equipped community center, and indoor ice rink, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, two public swimming pools, a 97-acre nature center, two 18-hole golf course, and some 340 acres of park land are among facilities maintained by Highland Park’s Park District. A number of prestigious private country clubs are also located within the community.

HIGHLAND PARK


The small village of Kenilworth is a master-planned development on the shores of Lake Michigan. It was planned by architect Daniel Burnham to resemble a grand retreat in Warwickshire, England and has grand estates on large lakefront lots. The village covers just over ½ square mile and has a population of about 2500.

The pace bus also serves Kenilworth and the Linden stop of the Purple Line “L” train, located in Wilmette, is just minutes south. Shopping & DiningLittle commercial or industrial development exists in the charming downtown area of this quaint community. Kenilworth is minutes from the shopping/dining districts of Wilmette and other North Shore Communities.

SchoolsKenilworth has its own school district in which children attend the Joseph Sears School. Sears School is for kids in grades kindergarten through eight. For high school, residents attend the highly acclaimed New Trier High School in Winnetka.

RecreationWhile Kenilworth’s area is very small, the village is not without various points of interest. The Kenilworth Fountain, designed by George W. Maher, is located in the heart of Kenilworth on Kenilworth Avenue, just east of the railroad tracks. Further east is the Kenilworth Avenue Beach, which is divided into a swimming beach and a sailing beach. The Kenilworth-Winnetka Baseball Association plays little league games at Pee Wee Field, a quaint stadium located just off Green Bay road. The Kenilworth Assembly Hall is a community building used for gatherings, school events, and organizational meetings.

KENILWORTH


Originally a summer camp in the 1880’s, Lake Bluff today is a small, peaceful community situated high above Lake Michigan on steep bluffs. The town has a close-knit community spirit. A charming gazebo on the village green serves as a focal point for the small central business district and a setting of many community activities. The village covers about 4 sq miles and has about 5700 residents.



TransportationExpress commuter trains reach Chicago’s Loop in just over 50 minutes. Bus and limo services direct to O’Hare Airport are available. U.S. 41 and Sheridan Road run through the Village. (I-94) is just west of the village.

Shopping & DiningCharming “downtown” Lake Bluff features a central shopping district with unique shops and restaurants: from breakfast at the highly regarded Full Moon restaurant and to a foodie inspired restaurant, Inovasi. It is a short drive to several major malls, including Lake Forest’s Market Square with 30 stores, Old Orchard mall in Skokie and Gurnee Mills, a regional outlet mall featuring over 200 stores.

SchoolsLake Bluff is home to award winning elementary and middle schools providing an outstanding curriculum for all student needs. A junior high and several fine private schools are also available locally. High school students attend Lake Forest High School, one of the states highest ranked schools.

RecreationGenerous space devoted to parks, beaches, and playgrounds is maintained by the Lake Bluff Park District. A community recreation complex, several local tennis and golf courses provide year-round activities for the residents of all ages. Ravinia Park in the heart of the village serves as a scenic wildlife and bird sanctuary.

LAKE BLUFF


Lake Forest, incorporated in 1861, is a quiet upscale residential area located 30 miles north of Chicago along Lake Michigan. With an area of approximately 17 square miles and a population of just over 20,000, Lake Forest is a small community within reach of downtown Chicago.



TransportationCommuter trains reach Chicago’s Loop in just under an hour from 2 Metra Stations: one in East Lake Forest and one in West Lake Forest. Easy access to I-94, an interstate highway that heads North to Wisconsin or south into the city. The Skokie Highway connects drivers to Lake Shore Drive and downtown Chicago.

Shopping & DiningAlthough Lake Forest is mostly residential, there are areas for shopping/dining. Market Square features J. Crew, Forest Bootery, Lake Forest Food and Wine, Einstein Bagels and Gerhard’s Elegant Desserts. Northbrook Court, Old Orchard and Hawthorne Center are major regional malls located in nearby communities.

SchoolsLake Forest School District offers residents exceptional education. Residents attend the district schools up through their graduation from Lake Forest High School, which also serves Lake Bluff and Knollwood. The Montessori School of Lake Bluff, Forest Bluff School and Lake Forest Academy (LFA) are three prestigious private schools. The area is also served by Lake Forest College and Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.

RecreationThe Lake Forest Park District has a fitness center, golf course, wildlife preserve and discovery center, as well as a dozen parks in the area with 350 acres that include boating, swimming, and sailing facilities at Beach Park. The Department also offers leisure programs ranging from creative arts to ice skating to sailing. A number of country clubs are located in and close to Lake Forest.

LAKE FOREST


Wilmette is a charming community and a six time winner of the “Tree City USA” award. The east side of town, along Lake Michigan, captures the history of the community: cobblestone streets and antique lampposts, a feeling of a by-gone era. The village covers roughly 5.3 square miles and has a population of about 27,000.



TransportationExpress commuter trains reach Chicago’s Loop in 20 minutes. The Chicago “L” reaches the Loop in 40 minutes. The Edens Expressway (I-94) can be accessed on the west side of Wilmette. Bus service is also available.

Shopping & DiningShopping centers include the downtown district, which features a variety of specialty shops and restaurants popular with the locals such as Gilson’s and Depot. Edens plaza shopping Center provides local patrons with many shops, including Carson Pirie Scott. Plaza del Lago, one of the oldest shopping centers in the United States, houses over 35 stores featuring a variety of lively shops, a large grocery chain and a French inspired restaurant, Convito. Old Orchard mall is one mile away.

SchoolsWilmette has four elementary schools, Highcrest Middle School for grades 5 and 6; Wilmette Junior High for grades 7 and 8; and New Trier High School, one of the most highly regarded schools in the country, which boasts a 99% graduation rate.

RecreationThe Wilmette Park District operates 19 parks with over 320 acres of land. Gillson Park features a 1,000-foot natural sand beach attracting water sports enthusiasts as well as those who enjoy swimming and sunning. Wilmette features one of the premier sailing beaches in the Midwest. Wilmette is home to the Michigan Shores Club, Westmoreland Country Club and the Sheridan Shore Yacht Club in addition to the U.S. Coast Guard Lifeboat Station. There are more than a dozen golf and country clubs in the area.

WILMETTE


Incorporated in 1896, Winnetka is home to the nationally acclaimed New Trier High School. Winnetka is a classic North Shore town located 19 miles north of downtown Chicago. Elegant homes and grand estates line beautifully landscaped streets. The village covers about 4 square miles and has a population just over 12,000.

Shopping & DiningThe village features 4 small business districts or downtown areas with restaurants, shops, and small businesses. You can eat outside at O’Neil’s on a crisp, fall evening, grab a steaming hot beverage at Caribou Coffee or shop for clothes at E Street Denim. Edens Plaza shopping Center is located nearby and has many fine stores. Old Orchard mall in Skokie features a variety of department stores including Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor and Macy’s.

SchoolsWinnetka public schools include 3 elementary schools and 2 middle schools. The educational philosophy stresses creative activities and emotional and social development. Winnetka is located in New Trier Township and students attend New Trier High School. Oakton Community college serves Winnetka residents.

RecreationThe Winnetka Park District provides residents with programs including sports, camps, classes, performing arts, and waterfront activities. Winnetka’s stunning parks, green space, and beaches plus The Skokie Lagoon are perfect for residents who love biking, fishing, boating, and bird watching. Winnetka also features an indoor tennis club, a public golf course, an ice rink, and a boat launch at Lloyd beach.

WINNETKA


Incorporated as a village in 1926 and one of the few suburbs which issues licenses for keeping horses, Northfield has maintained a country atmosphere. Surrounded by country clubs, golf courses, and forest preserves, this community remains residential with limited commercial development in the downtown area. The village covers 3.2 square miles and has a population of about 5400.



TransportationExpress commuter trains from close by Winnetka or Glenview reach Chicago’s Loop in about 40 minutes. The Edens Expressway is easily accessible and the Tri-State Tollway is just minutes away. Local bus service is also available.

Shopping & DiningShopping areas can be found within the village limits. Specialty stores, antique shops, and restaurants are among a variety of businesses. Every Saturday during the summer there is a Farmers Market. Old Orchard mall, in nearby Skokie, features shops including major department stores. Northbrook Court and Edens Plaza in Wilmette are also very popular among residents.

SchoolsThe area is served by Middle Fork primary and Sunset Ridge Middle school. High school students attend either New Trier High School in Winnetka or Glenbrook South High School in Glenview.

RecreationNorthfield is home to extensive biking, jogging and bridal paths, plus 3 parks and the Skokie Lagoon Forest Preserve. It also features a large and well attended senior center and a community center. Willow Park is Northfield Park District’s largest park and sports complex featuring 4 lighted ball fields, 2 lighted soccer fields, 4 tennis courts, a ½ mile pathway system with fitness stations and a picnic shelter.

NORTHFIELD


Incorporated in 1903, residential streets are flanked by mature trees. There are gentle hills in portions of the Village, and two forest preserves border the North Branch of the Chicago River. The modern central business district is near the intersection of Waukegan and Deerfield Roads. The Village covers about 5½ square miles and is home to just over 18,000 residents.



TransportationExpress commuter trains to the Loop take 40 minutes. One is located on Deerfield Road in downtown Deerfield and the second is on Lake Cook Road just east of Pfingston Road. There is local bus service throughout the area.

Shopping & DiningA new shopping district has been added in downtown Deerfield which has specialty stores and restaurants. A wide variety of cuisines are available. Each Saturday morning from June to October there is a farmers market at the Metra Commuter parking lot. Northbrook Court on Lake-Cook Road is a large indoor mall with Neiman Marcus and other fine stores.

SchoolsThe public school district has 4 elementary and 2 middle schools. There are many private school options also. High school children attend Deerfield High and Highland Park High. Both schools consistently rank in the top 10 statewide based on ACT scores.

RecreationDeerfield Park District offers year round recreational programs, a community center, 21 park sites (over 262 acres), two pools, an 18 hole golf course, baseball, football, basketball, soccer and track fields, tennis courts, sledding hill, ice skating, and playgrounds.

DEERFIELD


Incorporated as a village in 1899, Glenview was originally a small farming community. Today, Glenview is a spacious and quiet residential community with tree-lined streets and an award-winning school system. Careful planning and zoning, proximity to the Loop and O’Hare Airport, and a wide variety of homes in every price range have helped make this village one of the most popular on the North Shore. The village covers about 14 square miles and is home to 45,000 residents.



TransportationExpress commuter trains reach Chicago’s Loop in about 30 minutes. Drivers are close to the Edens Expressway (I-94) on the town’s eastern boundary and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) on the west.

Shopping & DiningGlenview is home to a wide variety of shopping and dining attractions. Old Orchard, The Glen Town Center, Golf Mill and Northbrook Court are major malls in the area. Restaurant choices range from burger’s at famous Hackney’s to a special night out for Italian at Café Lucci or continental cuisine at Wildfire.

SchoolsMost children attend neighborhood elementary and junior high schools, then Glenbrook South High School, one of the highest rated schools in metropolitan Chicago. Some students attend New Trier and Maine Township schools. There are several private and parochial schools in the area. Oakton Community College in nearby Des Plaines also serves the area.

RecreationGlenview’s award-winning Park District includes 30 parks and playgrounds, skating rinks, 28 outdoor and eight indoor tennis courts, two swimming pools, and an 18-hole public golf course. Park District programs are described in seasonal brochures mailed directly to residents, including a wide range of scheduled activities such as sports, arts, dance, fitness, and hobbies. Cook County Forest Preserve biking and horseback riding trails run through Glenview.

GLENVIEW


Known as the “Village of Friendly Living”, residents agree Northbrook is one of the most desirable communities in the Chicago area. Northbrook keeps both residential life and industrial growth in harmony. Abundant forest preserve land affords the community seclusion and tranquility. The village covers about 13 square miles and is home to just over 33,000 residents.



TransportationExpress commuter trains reach Chicago’s Loop in 35 minutes. Both the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and the Edens Expressway (I-94) are easily accessible. Bus service is also available.

Shopping & DiningNorthbrook Court features 140 stores including anchors Lord & Taylor, Macy’s and Neiman Marcus. The mall opens early every morning to accommodate walkers and joggers. Downtown Northbrook features small shops and grocery stores. Specialty shopping can be found throughout the community.

SchoolsNine elementary Schools and 4 junior high schools serve the area. High school students attend Glenbrook High School. Standardized test scores are among the highest in the state. RecreationThe Glenbrook North High School Center for the Performing Arts, a multi-million dollar 1500-seat facility, hosts the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra as well as high school theater activities. The Leisure Center, a Senior Center, community golf courses, tennis courts, Aquatic Center, and over 300 acres of park land are among other amenities. The Northbrook Velodrome, one of only 12 quarter-mile bike tracks in the nation, holds weekly U.S. Cycling Federation races during the summer. The Sports Complex features two indoor ice arenas.
