Birthdays Term 4 Week 10 15 December 2017 G’Day Kurra North! Where did 2017 go? Another year has flashed by for the best small school in the Hawkesbury! Whether it be good or bad the Hawkesbury has a reputation for ‘communicating’. We look after each other, we care for each other. It makes us all feel as though we are a part of one big family. Like any family though, sometimes we find things out about other family members and we assume they are true; even though we don’t know for sure. I just want to let every member of my family here at KNPS know that if you hear something about our school that you’re not sure about please come to me to discuss it. I can tell you whether it is true or false. I really do love this school and all of its members. I can tell you with certainty that I will return next term to start another year of top shelf teaching and learning at my second home! I would like to thank our wonderful parents for their support of our school and for allowing us the opportunity to work along side your children. I would like to also thank the staff of KNPS, for the commitment and enthusiasm that you bring to your work on a daily basis and for always having the best interest of the students in mind. Students, you are the reason why there is such a place as Kurrajong North Public School. The contribution, hard work, dedication to your studies and your unique personalities are very much appreciated. I wish the entire school community a very happy and safe Christmas and New Year’s break. I look forward to sharing our educational partnership with you further in 2018! Term 4 Week 10 15 December 2017

G’Day Kurra North!

Presentation Night Assembly

Presentation night last Friday was fraught with technical glitches. The sound system supplied by the club was faulty; occasionally letting us know the bingo results in the next room. Then to top things off our own sound system which we brought as a back up malfunctioned and burnt out. But, like everything else in our school we just got on with things! Over 150 guests along with our student body, congratulated students on their fine performances throughout 2017. I would like to thank the staff for all of their support, parents and guests for your participation and students for your lovely behaviour. Whilst there were a few hiccups it was another wonderful community event. Congratulations everyone! Congratulations to our new school leaders for 2018. Captains; Brooke and Jessica and House Captains; Ava, Joshua and Vaughn. Once again a special thank you to the 2017 leaders who will be a very difficult act to follow! End of year reports were also sent home on Friday.

Congratulations again to each of these very worthy recipients. Congratulations also to each and every one of our Kurrajong North Public School students, who have tried their best and made outstanding progress along their learning journeys. Thank you to all our families who shared in this celebration with us. At Presentation Night we also formally farewelled our Year 6 students who head off to high school next year. We wish them every success as they follow new pathways in different schools. Completing Year 6 also means we farewell several families where this is their last child to go through KNPS. We thank you for your support over many years and trust your time with us has been positive and rewarding.

Year 6 Farewell Celebrations It has been a very busy week for Year 6. On Monday we held our party day at AMF Bowling and Laser Tag. The bowling was a lot of fun but I particularly enjoyed the Laser Tag where I managed to beat ALL of the Year 6 students!! We had a great lunch followed by an amazing cake. Overall it was a great tie to celebrate Year 6 and their time at KNPS. A very big thank you to Mr Malcolm for driving us in the mini bus. Year 6 Farewell Gift to the School The 2017 Year 6 group held a vote early in the year in regards to their farewell gift to the school. They decided to donate a new ‘Buddy Bench’ to our school. We all truly appreciate their contribution that they have offered throughout their time at Kurrajong North Public School. I am sure I speak for all staff, students and community members when I say they will be greatly missed. Merroo Party Day Last Wednesday we held our traditional Merroo party day. The weather gods were extremely good to us and it was a great day to be in the water. I’m very happy to say that there were no cases of sunburn as everyone was seriously sun safe. Thank you to Ty who also came along to play water games with our students. I think the photos show that an amazing time was had by all!

Telstra Christmas Tree Competition I very happy to announce that KNPS came second in the Telstra Christmas Tree Competition. We won an amazing $500 which will go straight into our technology budget to purchase robotic equipment for 2018 ! Thank you to everyone who voted for us. We could not have beaten those bigger schools out there without community support

KNPS Talent!

Talent Quest last Tuesday was another very successful event. It always amazes me that there is such a depth of talent at our school. Congratulations to the magicians Noah and Ciaran who tied with Jorja’s dancing for winning overall.

Helpers’ Morning Tea

After our Talent Quest on Tuesday, we held our Community Helper morning tea. All the teachers would just like to say a final “THANK YOU” for all your help in 2017. The community spirit at KNPS is something we are very proud to be a part of. Thank you for all your time, effort and expertise that you have kindly donated this year to the school, out of your already very busy schedules. There are many ‘jobs’ the community takes on to make our school a very successful, exciting and positive place to be… from P&C, fundraising, canteen, classroom helpers, dancing, transporting, BBQ-ing… the list is endless. THANK YOU!

Snake Season Parents please reinforce the importance of snake safety with your children. This is the season when they like to be about in the warm sun. Under no circumstances are children to approach any snake within the school. Immediate notification must be made to the school staff. Friday, 15th December, 2018 - Final Day Year 6 Walk Out Today is the final day for Year 6, we traditionally conduct a ‘Walkout’ of the Year 6 students. Boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 5 form an arch from the kinder steps to the top of the steps. The graduating Year 6 group ring the school bell for the number of years they have been at KNPS and make their way through the raised arms. Classes will begin getting organised for this at 3.15pm with the Year 6 making their final appearance as Kurrajong North Public School students at 3.20 pm. Classes for 2018 As this is the final newsletter for the year it is fitting that I discuss class sizes for 2018. Currently we have 104 students at Kurrajong North Public School and we are anticipating commencing 2018 with more than 106 students. If we keep 106 or more students enrolled we will be able to form 5 classes. Numbers below 104 means we can only form four classes and things will get a little cramped! Considering the anticipated numbers we will be looking at forming the following 5 classes; K: 15 students Year 1/2: 11 + 5 students (16 students) Year 2/3: 12 + 9 students (21 students) Year 3/4: 12 + 12 students (24 students) Year 5/6: 11 + 17 students (28 students)

Obviously things can change over the Christmas break and sometimes families move in to the area. Sometimes families move out. Final decisions regarding classes won’t be made until February. Mr McFadden will stay on as our fifth teacher whilst Mrs Hanley will continue to be on leave in 2018 and will be replaced by Miss Stephenson.

Lost Property

We seem to have a lot of jackets and jumpers in our weather shed with no names, if your child is missing clothing please check the weather shed hooks.

Rainbow Winners

Congratulations to Cooper and Adam on receiving their Rainbow, Bronze and Value Awards at yesterday’s assembly!

P&C AGM The P&C Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 12 February, 2018 in the kinder room at 6 pm. All positions on the P&C team are up for nomination. Even if you are unable to commit to a position on the team your attendance is crucial in assisting further and future direction for our school. I look forward to meeting with you on the evening and commencing discussions for the 2018 year.

Principal’s Award This week I decided to give the Principal’s award to someone who always has a smile on their face. She makes me feel happy even when I’ve had an awful week. Thank you Hetty Fletcher! You make everything we do here worthwhile. Finally… have a wonderful Christmas break KNPS. Stay safe! Thank you for another great year at the best school in the state!
