January Fundraiser Dinner Thanks to everyone who

attended our meatloaf

fundraiser dinner which was

held on Wednesday, January

18th, 2017 in Vamos Hall.

Among our guests was one

extra-special guest, our Bishop,

Donald Hying (pictured to the

right with two other dinner

attendees). The Bishop made a

point to visit almost every table

before sitting down to enjoy the fabulous food created by our volunteers.

As everyone knows, they only way these

fundraisers can be successful is through

the dedicated volunteers that do

everything from set up, cooking, and food

distribution, to ticket sales, post dinner

cleaning and breakdown of all the set up

tables. Above, two of our many

volunteers, long time Council 10811

members Jim Permeske and Al Fillmon,

took a quick break to pose for this picture.

Thank you to all our volunteers and for

the many dinner attendees.

We look forward to seeing you at our March corned beef and cabbage fundraiser dinner on

Wednesday, March 8th in Vamos Hall. Enjoy the entertainment that will be provided and

consider buying your tickets in advance, saving $2 per person (see details above/right).

Family of the Month, January, 2017 Congratulations to brother knight Ghanem Ziadat and his wife

Mary who were named Council 10811’s January, 2017 Family of

the Month. While Ghanem has been a member for less than a

year, he (and Mary) have been very active in many activities

including volunteering at dinners and working with Ultra Foods to

obtain multiple food donations. Congratulations!

LTC Is an Important Piece of the

Puzzle There are many financial consultants and retirement

authorities who emphasize the need for a long-term care

(LTC) product for estate preservation and family

protection. While many commercial life insurance

companies have gotten out of the long-term care business,

the Knights of Columbus considers LTC a very important

piece of the family protection puzzle. The Order has been

actively offering our members this product for nearly 17

years without a premium increase on current

policyholders. Members who wisely purchased an LTC

plan from the Knights in 2000 are still paying the same

premiums today. Even better, our LTC coverage is

backed by the full strength of the Order, which remains

rooted in our strong Catholic values. Talk about stability

when it counts.

If we have not spoken about your need for LTC coverage

in your family portfolio, please take some time out of

your schedule to meet with me.

Remember, long-term care policies are underwritten

based on your health, and you most likely will never be

any healthier than you are today.

Vivat Jesus!

Resolutions Passed at January 19th, 2017 Good Shepherd Council 10811 Business Meeting Good Shepherd Council 10811 Resolution allowing suspension of spending limits prescribed in Council Bylaws for Vamos Hall

Kitchen renovation.

Whereas: the Vamos Hall kitchen has not been renovated since its initial building construction.

Whereas: the principle source of Good Shepherd Council Funding is monthly dinners which rely on use of this kitchen in

preparing meals.

Whereas: appliances in the Kitchen are due for replacement.

Whereas: most kitchen appliances and some components needing replacement cost more than Good Shepherd’s $500 Bylaw

spending limitation.

Therefore, be it resolved: that during this improvements period GSC contributions to Kitchen repairs and improvements be exempt

from bylaw limitations, and that funding motions be approved by a majority vote only, without further resolution.

First Reading: 1/19/2017

Publication in February 2017 GSC newsletter

Second Reading: 2/2/2017 Rules Suspended to allow a second and third reading on 1/19/17

The purpose of this resolution is to expand Good Shepherd Council 10811’s Individual Seminarian Funding Program (RSVP) to

cover a fifth seminarian until Seminarian Gregory Bim-Merle ordination to the priesthood.

Whereas: The Good Shepherd Council is well aware of the severe shortage of Roman Catholic priests.

Whereas: Individual seminarians and postulates receive minimal personal financial support from Gary Diocese.

Whereas: In 2008 Good Shepherd Council 10811 passed a resolution to fully exploit the rebate benefits available from Knights of

Columbus Supreme’s RSVP Seminarian Support Program.

Whereas: Supreme’s RSVP program requires a minimum of $500 per seminarian to qualify for rebate.

And Whereas: Good Shepherd Council 10811 misinterpreted the program rules during the 2015/16 fraternal year, disqualifying the

council from rebates.

And Whereas: Good Shepherd Council believes no seminarian should be penalized for an administrative error by the council.

Therefore be it resolved that: Good Shepherd Council’s originally resolved RSVP Program be enhanced by $500 for one year only,

allowing a participating seminarian to be ordained, thereby allowing the program to return to funding four seminarians in

accordance with the original RSVP resolution.
