From Your Grand Knight
Hello Everyone, they say April showers bring May flowers. Well what do May showers bring? Flooding of course… Usually in May, I am able to get in my kayak and paddle around. I’m thinking that at this rate, the waters won’t recede until late summer. Oh well, maybe I’ll go paddling through the trees. I will try to keep this Grand Knight’s Letter short. In a word, our Council is BUSY! We have had in the Month of April The Night of Knights Award Dinner in Streator on April 6th, The Spalding Council Awards and Recog-nition Dinner on April 8th, Lenten Fish Fry’s every Friday night, and at our April Council Meeting, the first round of nominations for our 2019-2020 Council Officers. There was also the Knights of Columbus State Conven-tion for the State of Illinois which was held in Springfield the last weekend of April. Yours truly and Deputy Grand Knight Louis Kanowsky attended. It is a time to talk with members of other Councils and get ideas to better our Council. But I will tell you one thing, as a Council, we do quite well. There are always those Councils that go above and beyond, but there are many more who are teetering on the edge as far as keeping their Council alive. And, we are one of the few who still maintain a Council Hall. We are very fortunate. The month of May will bring an Initiation Degree Ceremony at 6:00pm pri-or to our Council Meeting. This meeting will also bring our second round of officer nominations as well as the election of those officers. The month of June will be our installation of the new officers at our June Council Meeting. Things are changing. Time for a new Sheriff. But some things never change. We are still always looking for volunteers to help with our Tuesday Night Dinners and Raffle, and our Friday Night Fish fry. Please consider helping on some Tuesday or Friday night. Or just come out to have dinner on one of those nights, to help support your Council. We thank all those who continue to help. You make the dinners a success. As always, please recruit a Catholic gentleman to join our order. Form 100’s are located in the office at the Hall. And if you can’t get to a form 100, there is always the E-application online. Please talk to our agent Clint Coulter about insurance. Do you know a Catholic Gentleman to ask? Our next Third-Degree Club Board of Director’s Meeting will be Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 5:00pm, and the Council Officer’s Meeting following at 6:00pm. Our May Council meeting will be the following Thursday night, May 23, 2019 at 7:00 pm. With an Initiation Degree being performed prior at 6:00 pm. All meetings will take place at the Hall. IF YOU HAVEN’T BEEN TO A COUNCIL MEETING IN SOME TIME, PLEASE CONSIDER AT-
TENDING A COUNCIL MEETING TO SEE YOUR OFFICERS AT WORK. YOUR COUNCIL
NEEDS YOU. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THIS YEAR A GOOD YEAR FOR OUR COUN-
CIL.
We will soon be closing out fiscal year 2018-2019 and start on fiscal year 2019-2020. Let’s make the next fiscal
year a true success.
Until next month my friends……. Vivat Jesus, Ed
The Council Recognizes
Knight of the Month: Spalding Council recognizes Dick Cushman as May’s “Knight of the Month”, and
Dennis & Pam Goett along with their family as May’s “Family of the Month”. Dick was at the Hall every
Friday night during Lent helping with the fish fry and helps wherever he can. Dennis, Pam and their children
and grandchildren came out to the Hall during Lent to help with the Friday Night Fish Fry’s. Their help at
our functions help to make those functions the success they are. Dick and the Goett family are extraordinary
examples of what being a Knights of Columbus is all about. The Council congratulates Dick Cushman and
the Goett family on receiving this award.
The Council also wants to recognize and thank the many volunteers and Hall staff who worked very hard at our Lenten Fish Fry’s. From Joyce, Sherry, Phyllis, Eileen, Ann, Jane (and many others that I may have missed), who greet our patrons at the window and deliver to them their dinner. To Mark, Doug, Sam, Scott,
Terry, Bill, Dick, Dennis (and others) who man the kitchen and the condiments table. To Bakhos, John and Peggy who sell tip boards and 50/50 tickets. To John & Joanne and Lee who sell meal tickets. To Christina, Cookie, and Joe at the bar. To all those who wait on tables and clean the tables. I know that I am only
scratching the surface and have probably missed many people. The Council recognizes your efforts an appre-ciates your hard work. You are all deserving of recognition.

Farewell To A Good Friend
Hello Everyone, it is with great sadness that I have to
report that our dear friend Mrs. Pat Shea has passed
on to join her husband Dan in Heaven. Mrs. Shea
died Monday, April 29, 2019.
Pat was the lady who many of you knew as she would
greet people at the door and sell them dinner tickets at
our Friday night fish fry’s. Or you might have met her
selling meal tickets and jackpot tickets at our Tuesday
night raffles. Or still you might remember her from
working in the kitchen during our fish fry’s. Any way
that you know her, you knew that she was a hard work-
er, always volunteering at the Hall, and that she was the
nicest person you would ever meet.
Now, I didn’t know Mrs. Shea as long as many of you,
but what I do know is that she was a wonderful person
who liked to have a good laugh. We would work to-
gether on Friday nights and then we would all sit down
to dinner together and talk. She was a wealth of infor-
mation. I am glad that our paths in life crossed and
that Judy and I got to know her.
Mrs. Shea will be very much missed by all of us and
the Hall won’t be the same without her, but we will
always have very fond memories of her. To Mrs. Shea, safe travels to Heaven. Your work here
is done. We left on Earth will thingkof you often…..

NIGHT OF KNIGHTS AWARDS
The Annual Night of Knights Award Ceremony and Dinner was held April 6, 2019 in Streator, Illinois. This is a Peoria Diocese Chapter event in which Councils within the Diocese of Peoria nominate those Knights who they feel are deserving of this award. It is held annually in a different location. This year, it was in Streator, Illinois. The recipients of this award from our Council include, Brother Doug Booher, Brother Scott Diestelkamp and Brother William Bulfer. The event started with a 4:00 Mass at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, complete with an Honor Guard by the 4th Degree Knights. After Mass, dinner and award presentation took place at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Streator. Our 3 recipients and Council 427 were well represented by both friends and families of the recipients. Sam Joseph was lucky enough to charter a Peoria Charter Coach bus for the trip. I understand that the bus trip was fun as well.
When you see any of our recipients, please congratu-late them on this remarkable achievement.
