Prayer for the Canonization of
Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney
God, our Father, protector of
the poor and defender of the
widow and orphan, you called
your priest, Father Michael J.
McGivney, to be an apostle of
Christian family life and to lead
the young to the generous service
of their neighbor. Through the
example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Je-
sus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of
charity and building up his body which is the Church. Let
the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater con-
fidence in your love so that we may continue his work of
caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask
that you glorify your servant Blessed Father Michael J.
McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy
will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now pre-
sent (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord.
Amen

ALL SOULS
There’s the story of a priest who had completed preparing a group of children for confirmation. He asked the question: “What will God say on judgment day to those who have led a very good life?” A boy said without hesitation: “Come on into heaven and live with me.” The priest then asked: How about those who have led a very bad life? What will God say to them?” A girl answered: “You can’t come into heaven. You have to go to the other place.” The priest went on: “Now what will God say to those who are not good enough for heaven and not bad enough for hell?” A young girl gave this answer: “God will say I’ll be seeing you.” This story reminds us of the many truths about all souls that we pray for this month of November. Few of us will enter heaven upon our death. Many of us will have to spend some time in purgatory. Hopefully none of us will be condemned to damnation. The Catholic Church teaches that purgatory is the place which we go to be cleansed of our sins, so we can eventually be with God. You can’t find the word “purgatory” in the Bible, but you can find the inference. Our Lord Himself, im-plied that some sins must be atoned for in the next world when He spoke about the unforgivable sin of refus-ing to ask forgiveness. (Matt 12:32) Jesus also speaks about a certain prison where souls will be sent for cer-tain sins. They will not be released until the last penny of their debt has been paid. (Matt 5:26) In the Old Testament, Judas Maccabbees, the Jewish leader, set aside sacrifices to be offered for the dead. It is a holy and plus thought to pray for the dead that they may be freed from their sins (2Mac12;45-46) The souls in purgatory cannot help themselves but they can help us. We can help them through prayer. These souls suffer a cleansing pain due to the temporal punishment of sin. But they do have joys, they are absolutely sure that they will get to heaven. Pray for the holy souls, offer Mass for them. Vivat Jesus! Deacon Terry

DEAR SIR KNIGHTS:
THIS MESSAGE IS ABOUT GROWTH:
A good Assembly is a growing Assembly----This defines our group of Sir Knights of Assembly 2557.
In any organization, you are either growing membership or losing membership. If an organization wants to accom-plish any of it's goals and objectives one of the most im-portant attributes is growth.
Many thanks goes out to our present Sir Knights who encouraged their brothers to join our ranks.
Growth of an organization just does not happen without planning and having a good ACTION PLAN. This happened in this case.
I especially wish to thank our Faithful Comptroller, SK Fred Valdez, for providing leadership in the growth of Assembly 2557. He worked tirelessly for the past few months to meet this end. The results of all the hard work paid off. As of this date, we have increased our membership by 16 new Sir Knights. We had 7 candidates at the Lancaster exemplification and 9 more at the Simi Valley ex-emplification.
WELCOM TO ASSEMBLY 2557!
Vivat Jesus

“ I already have insurance at work” Many jobs offer some form of group term life insurance. Often, this insurance is an employee benefit provided at no charge, or for a small co-pay. Knowing that this coverage exists may convince someone that he doesn’t need to discuss personally
owned life insurance with a professional agent. That would be a mistake. Most forms of group life insurance are limited in amount. That amount may be tied to salary or some other benchmark, but often there is a cap. That cap may be dangerously low for your families needs should you die. In fact, absence of a detailed needs analysis (which I would be happy to provide, free of charge), any Employer-provided coverage may be com-pletely unrelated to needs at death. Especially today there is the very real possibility that you could change employers or lose your job. Or that your benefits could be reduced. While group life helps, it does not replace the need for individually owned life insurance.
I’ll be happy to meet with you to provide free, custom tailored needs analysis, so that you know exactly where you stand.
I look forward to hearing from you.

CHALICE PROGRAM
Our Assembly Chalice Program now has 47 active members Not all of the members have selected a
recipient for their Chalice after their passing.
Remember one of the Mottos of the first degree that we all went thru. That was: "Tempus Fugit,
Momento More" translates to "Time Flies, Remember Death". None of us will live forever and we don't know
when our passing will occur. Be prepared by selecting a Priest or other religious group that can celebrate a
mass as your recipient of choice. You can change your selection whenever you want. As a minimum, talk to
your spouse or other family members to make them aware of the program. I have had to request that the
family select a recipient after a member's passing if he had not made a selection. Some have responded to
me "What's the Chalice Program?". Save your family from making that choice while still mourning your pass-
ing. Plan ahead.

Lord, hear our prayer
CAN YOU HELP MY NANA? My name is Nick Breen, and this is my nana, Rose. She has helped raise me since I was a little boy and she has helped a lot of people in her life. Now she needs our help. You see, my nana has kidney disease. I wish I could help her, but the doctors say I can't. Maybe you or someone watching this video can help her by donating to The Kidney Project. I pray every day and night that someone would be able to help my nana. I want my nana around for a long time. I want her to see me graduate high school, graduate college and maybe even see me get married. Can you help my nana by donating to the UCSF Kidney Project?

Military Service of Father Jim Maher
The "Police Action" as it was once called by politicians, is better known as the Korean War, started on June 27, 1950. I joined on August 24, 1950. After boot camp I was assigned to Commander, Naval Forces, Far East, Transport Division. Our staff consisted of 6 officers and 16 of us enlisted men and not considered part of any ship's crew. There were 4 transport, 3 cargo ships, 1 tanker and a few destroyer escorts in a squadron and there were 3 other squadrons. We would be assigned to 1 ship for 6 months then transfer to another for 6 months. Most of the time we were in Korean waters, but would travel back to Sasabo and our home port, Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan to pick up Marines to transport them to the "Police Action" in Korea, many of whom DID NOT RETURN. The number of "Missing in Action" to this day, is humongous. During these trips we were usually under alert "1ABLE" which meant all stations manned for action. The majority of time we were shadowed by Chinese submarines but never any physical contact. At one point, we were sent to Hong Kong for 30 days, along with 2 destroyers and a small aircraft carrier, to be ready to evacuate American military and consulate personal and families should China decide to make a move into Hong Kong. Every 30 days they would change ships. I was also part of the fleet which evacuated the troops who were forced to flee to Won son and Pusan after the Chinese crossed the38th parallel. Some Marines and Soldiers were also taken to Inchon. One memorable duty was when we took part in the re-enactment of the WW11 landing in Iwo Jima. Sixty ships took part in the mock landing. It was the anniversary of the original landing and to celebrate the famous flag raising new monument placed at the top of Mt. Suribachi. The beach landings and island strafing were duplicated and realistic. The heavily bombarded caves on Suribachi caused them to open, which had been closed from the original bom-bardments in the War. Thousands of Japanese Soldiers trapped inside in perfect preservation due to limestone in the caves. Several hundred Americans were also found. Back at Stateside I was assigned to the Navy- Marine Station in L.A. 1954 I was discharged from active duty. Very proud to have served. Awards: Korean Medal
