BE TRANSFORMED!
The prophet Jeremiah was called by God to remind the Israel-ites that they were straying from the covenant. He resisted the call at first. Often times his words fell upon deaf ears. Twice, when God warns him of a plot against his life, Jeremiah asks the Lord to take vengeance. He calls upon God to visit a famine upon them, to make wives childless, for the young to die in battle, etc. (Jer18:19-24)
In the face of such hatred and injustice, we can understand at some point Jeremiah’s re-action. He is doing God’s work; God should protect him and avenge him. We might even suggest that Jeremiah demonstrates a slightly elevated awareness by asking God to do this. He does not take up arms himself, but rather, trusts that God will make it right.
Jesus faces a similar situation. His ministry has not been universally embraced; his own disciples struggle at times to be faithful. He is an outlaw; his best friend Peter is going to betray him and he knows that he is going to die a cruel death. Jesus’ response is remarkably different. John’s Gospel notes that “He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end(Jn 13:1)” At the Last Supper, he anticipates his death and in the words of Cardinal Albert Vanhoye, “turns it into a gift of love. “In the bread and wine that becomes his Body and Blood, he gives his very self to us. Unlike Jeremiah, who focuses on revenge, Jesus chooses to offer complete love.
As we celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Lord, the implication becomes obvious. As we adore the Blessed Sacrament and receive it into our human bodies, we are being invited to be transformed into this complete love. All the actions and words that contribute to division and hatred in our lives can become the sacrifice that we bring to God’s altar. We unite our brokenness with the broken bread and poured wine to join God, the source of love. The Eucharist becomes the means of establishing healing, real and tangible, in our lives.
It is easy to be like Jeremiah. We want God to recognize our faithfulness and sacrifices. We want God to protect us and take our side in conflict. Jesus asks for something far greater and then offers us the very means to achieve it. The next time you spend time in Adoration, make an Act of Spiritual Communion or receive the Eucharist, instead of simply seeing it as a personal grace for your holiness, I invite you to see it as a privi-leged opportunity to enter into God’s love and to intentionally share that love where it is needed most in your life, and in the lives around you.
MASS SIGN UPS As you can imagine, there is no perfect system to allocate scarce resources. We are doing our best to match desire with opportunity in a timely fashion. As more people are comfortable coming to mass, the system will have to adapt. Here are some important points to assist us:
We are currently limited to 50 people per mass, including minister. For weekend masses, we are contacting those who have expressed an interest in certain mass times and places. If you are contacted, it is important that you reply to let us know if you are able to attend that mass, and if we have the correct number of people in your party. Our hope is to have the weekend masses fully reserved, so if you simply show up, there may not be enough cancellations to let you in. Weekday masses have fewer people interested in them at this point. There are some registrations that will have priority, but more room for people to show up. Doors will be locked a few minutes before mass begins, so be timely. If you have a “reservation”, please be present at least five minutes before mass begins, or indicate that you or someone in your party is not coming. This will allow us to let visitors know if they can attend mass. Again, we prefer for people to register and to let us know when a preference changes. Finally, those who can attend week day masses will be lower on the list for a weekend mass registrations. Those who have not come to mass will have preference over those who have attended.

Corpus Christi Sunday Our Liturgical Color is White
This Week’s Theme: Jesus is the Bread of Life
OUR FAMILY PRAYS: “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Jesus, we celebrate your closeness to us every time we receive the Eucharist at Mass. Help us to really understand this great gift and mystery. We desire to also be as close to you as possible. We thank you for your great love. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
TODAY, WE CELEBRATE OUR PARISH FEAST DAY! PARISH OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST
OUR FAMILY SHARES CONVERSATION: Since the birth of our country, we have struggled with problems of racism, discrimination, and inequality; very recently, our country has been hurt by the wrongful murder of an African American man named George Floyd and by the violence which some people have committed, because of their hate, anger and vengeful hearts. Talking about and acting on what is happening if important so that we can understand how each of us can be positive forces which will change these hurtful ways. A few weeks ago, on Pentecost Sunday, we heard the story of Peter and the Apos-tles who were given, by the Holy Spirit, the power to speak in many languages to all the different peoples who had travelled to Jerusalem for the Jewish feast of Pentecost. All of them were amazed that they were able to understand, in their own languages, what the Apostles preached about the Good News of Jesus’ resurrection.
1. Why did God give the Apostles the power to suddenly speak so many languages?2. What message was God giving the Apostles and all the different groups of people?3. How do you think it felt to know that God himself wanted all of his children to under-stand the Good News?4. How do you think it felt to all the diverse peoples, to be included in God’s plan of love and freedom from sin?
Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. In Latin, it is called Corpus Christi, which means the true Body and the true Blood of Jesus present in the Eucharist. St. Paul is the creative “Apostle” to the Gentiles (non-Jews) who came up with the description of Christ and his believers (our Church) as “The Body of Christ”. This means that Jesus is the head while we are all the parts.
1. Why would St. Paul use this image of The Body of Christ to describe God’s will?2. How does this image describe each and every one of us?3. What is God’s message to us amid the sad events of George’s murder?
A bias means that a person prefers certain ideas or persons and may not give equal chance to different ideas or persons. A generalization is when a person makes a judg-ment about something or someone, without enough information about that something or someone. Biases and generalizations can be learned behaviors and can be influenced by things we see in the media, our culture, our families. Often, we are not aware of our own biases. It is safe to say that other than newborn babies, we all have biases; it is also safe to say that it is easy to make generalizations. Do I sometimes have biases toward groups of people that are different from me?
Let us continue our unified prayers for our world, our country, all those who suffer from inequality, racism, and harmful treatment. Let us pray: “Come, Holy Spirit”

Sacred Heart in Yarmouth
Newcomers to our church community -- and perhaps longtime residentswith memories -- might cherish some milestones of our Yarmouth church. With the 2020 celebration of Yarmouth’s special anniversary this year, weremember:
• Mass was reportedly celebrated in a Yarmouth private home in November1856. •
• l878-1910 - Cumberland Street church was established and dedicated to Sacred Heart of Jesus in a modest building which cost $1700 to construct. Reverend James A Flynn, head of missions for the diocese, had some responsibility for organizing the new parish.
• 1910 - Father Joseph D. Quinn purchased Main Street property which included a residence (thereafter the rectory) and a barn which became the church. He also purchased the site of Holy Cross Cemetery in Yarmouth.• 1913 - Fire destroyed the church building. Subsequently, celebration of Mass was held in the rectory.• Building materials - granite for the Romanesque-style church
was quarried from a site in Pownal, Maine. • The Boston architectural firm of O’Connell and Shaw
designed the church (Richard J. Shaw, Timothy G. O’Connell). The firm specialized in ecclesiastical projects.
• 1920 - Ground was broken for new church and cornerstone laid in 1921.
• 1929 - Unfinished church (interior) was dedicated.
Sacred Heart has a long, long history of serving the church & community including the annual Yarmouth Clam Festival, Sacred Heart Christmas Fair, Monthly Senior Luncheons, ‘That Man is You’ Catholic Mens Ministry, Boy Scouts, Social Justice & Peace Commission Ministry, Grief Support Ministry and many more. If you are new to the Parish and are interested in participating in any of these ministries please contact Kim Palli and she will put you in contact with the appropriate Ministry Contact Person. Call Kim: 523-9075 or email [email protected]. P.S. We are looking for a Chairperson for this year’s Christmas Fair. Wink, wink!! Please pray for an end to COVID 19 so that the Christmas Fair will be on this year!! Coming in the June 28th Bulletin more about Sacred Heart, their Music Ministry and history of our Sacred Heart Organ.
