In this portrait, the flower in Mada’s hair and the row of

flowers across her dress link her with the floral patterns in the rug and wallpaper.

Klimt’s style became freer with fewer dense patterns and hard edges in his later

years.

Tree of Life

There is a vast amount of detail in this painting.

Notice the “Egyptian eye” sprouting from the branches.

There are triangles, swirls, and circles within circles.

The colors intensify as you get at the flower garden on the ground.

Made from gold and ceramic tiles, exotic woods, glass, and jewels.

Tree symbolizes life cycles. Seedpods and other organic shapes represents creativity and rebirth; the black bird symbolizes death.

Gustav KlimtTree of Life

Gustav Klimt painted the “Tree of Life”which is an important symbol in nearly

every culture.

The Tree of Life represents wisdom, protection, strength, and beauty. It

reaches up into the sky and down into the earth. It links Heaven, Earth, and

the Underworld.

The swirled branches make people want to keep looking at the painting

to explore and find more.

Even with the mixed up patterns and swirly branches we still will always

recognize it as The Tree of Life.

branches.3. Paint the ground one color Paint splotches of color all over the tree

and background. Overlap the splotches a bit so that the colors run

together.
