WCSRC SETS NEW SHOW STANDARDS BURSWOOD WA October 2007. West Coast Street Rod Club’s three car display at this years state title show has set a new standard in mini- malization. The vogue min- imalist approach would make any interior decorator extremely proud. It has set new standards that has left opportunities for others to follow. Did it win a trophy? No. Been there done that . How much trophy space can one club afford? Did we have a deficit of other ideas? Well yes, but adversity is the mother of invention. Was it presentable and easy to clean up? Finally, did it dis- tract viewers attention away from the cars and clutter photographs? It was perfect! Oh Magoo, you’ve done it again! • From the Editor’s laptop computer that has a mind of its own.

Hello again hot rod enthusiasts. It’s great to be in your loving hands again. What a difference a month makes. Not much to report on last month and no time to be creative. This month, I could do an edition that Peter Hunter would need a 100 ton press to fold, to squeeze into an envelope. It is mainly photos, but that’s what we like.. I think.

The WAHRP Hot Rod and Street Machine Spec-tacular looked good to me as a spectator. I hope it rewarded the committee for the huge effort that goes into such an event. The club had a simple neat display that waved the flag without too much work being required. Thanks to Dave K, Frenchie and Clive for a good job. See a great show pictorial report in your Klaxon.

Next event, for me anyway, was my first attendance at the Goodfella’s Yanchep Run. This has become a very popular event. It provided a wealth of photos for this Klaxon, and even more incentive to get the coupe back on the road.

The host club does a lot of work with sponsors to get this show on the road. It culminates into a huge mega raffle where many entrants were multi winners. The perfect spring weather was a bonus this year. The bush flies certainly thought so, but what they think doesn’t matter. They don’t have very big brains. Hopefully there will be more than two Wil-lys there next year. I enjoyed the day, even though it started on a sad note with the organisers rejecting my five bucks entry fee because one of them knew that my “street hack” was of Swedish descent. Goodfellas indeed! See you there next year.

Last Sunday I made my first trip to the clubs favourite new AutoOne store in Ellenbrook to pick up all the new parts for the Coupe’s motor rebuild. At the time of writing, the motor is stripped and cleaned ready for putting back together. How exciting, the anticipation of how a new

  • cam will go, always adds some excitement. Now the warm weather is back, it will also be OK to squirt a few more coats of lacquer on the front clip, rub rub rub and more rub rub, bolt it together, finish the 30 remaining small jobs, then the coupe is all but done again.

Check the notice for AutoOne Ellen Brook’s official opening next weekend, later in this Klaxon. MMM a sausage and onion burnoff!

Since last meeting I have also spent five days in Sydney. Some of it for my education and a couple of days site seeing with Denise. I have been requested not to hold a slide night.

I have also been busy updating my new website www.cyberhotrodders.com. The Yanchep run and WAHRP Show are both featured in the photo gallery. Check them out. You may be there. Inside the last page is a members’ last opportunity to book the Barracks for next Easter in Moora. Staying in the barracks last year was a fantas-tic experience. A great social bonding of members, wives and partners. Yvonne has grabbed the bull by the horns to organise the next run after the consensus last year was that it was worth doing again. The star act next Easter will be Cate Cebrano. Yvonne is as busy as anyone is these days and cannot mollycoddle you guys. The Barracks owner has put pressure on to confirm our booking with a deposit. Have a read and make up your minds now! • The West Australian Hot Rod Promotions crew staged the annual ASRF State Title show at Burswood dome on 27 and 28 October. The displays gave the aspiring rodding public examples of the whole cross section of our great hobby. From unfinished to rat rods to contemporary to nostalgic street rods to show cars and

customs. There was a great showing of Sma-chines for those that way inclined. The best rods were of outstand-ing quality. This year the promoters had a new unveiling cer-emony. Three debut show stoppers were left under covers until an hour or so after the show opened. The PR guy then built up the crowds’ anticipation and they were uncovered them one by one and exposed them to the cascading camera flashes. I personally would have been more excited with a good quality hot dog. The cars unveiled were Fred Nilan’s 32 coupe, Graeme John’s Caddy custom and Tony Cro’s new 32 roadster. All great vehicles. No more! EW

  • In perfect spring weather, Goodie Goodie Gum Drops held their annual rod run up to Yanchep. The start point at Kingsway Shopping Centre car park was a monster car show. Not all rods went to the run however I reckon that over 100 rods, customs and Smachines did the trip and stayed (unlike AB who must have left the iron on at home!). Somehow they drew a line in the sand to differentiate between the Volvo and GT Falcons for entrant suita-bility.. Beats me! With pride still in tact and bearing no malice, I joined the long line of rods and Sunday drivers for the northern haul to the Yanchep Inn front lawn where there was another instant show for the public. Good meal, good beer good day!

Moora Rod Run 2008 Last Chance.

Is everyone going to Tassie for Easter 2008?

To date I have not heard from anyone regarding the proposed run to Moora for the Country Music weekend Easter 2008. Moora Bar-racks, the fantastic accommodation we had last year has been booked, however the Proprietor has set a dead line for names and numbers as she has been knocking back bookings and is con-cerned she will be left high and dry.

Apart from single and double rooms, there are now also 3 pow-ered caravan sites at the Barracks if you want to bring your own home.

The main act has been announced and that is Kate Cerebrano. All who attended last Easter had a brilliant weekend, despite the fact that Shannon Noll headlined and I’m sure it will be as good in 2008.

If you interested in this event, please call Yvonne Mulder 9398 1171 or 0429451337 or email [email protected] by 30 No-vember. If there is little or no response, unfortunately we will have to cancel. Yvonne Mulder
