Pues decir que esta pelicula la puedes ver una vez,dos veces,tres veces y cada vez se sacan mas detalles 100x100 reales

y muy buenos,tengo una gran coleccion de peliculas belicas y me quedo con esta por la realidad de ella,de tacticas

especiales,armamento,uniformes..............

Todo se ajusta a la realidad,no e podido sacar ningun fallo de ella ni ningun error,alguna tonteria,pero merece la pena

verla y disfrutarla entre amigos y comentarla,pelicula que mereceria sacar una segunda parte,abajo dejo el link de los kit

list,un saludo.

Different kitlist from a different source.

For many of you, Tears of the Sun, is a great movie about Navy SEALs. Whatever you may think of the story, the costume

design is spot on and can serve as a pretty accurate guide for a Navy SEAL jungle loadout.

First we must consider the mission that was tasked to LT A.K. Waters' team. They were to insert into Nigeria under cover

of night, pick up the doctor, the priest and the two nunns and evacuate them back to the aircraft carrier. It was supposed

to be an easy mission. Well most if not all of you know what ended up happening. They ultimately decided to march the

refugees to the Cameroon border where they would be saved from certain death at the hands of fierce islamist troops

who had taken over the country.

In what will become a several part mini series I will analyze the film and production stills to give you as accurate a

description of the gear and equipment used by each of the men in LT Waters' team.

Before we take a look at LT Waters' (played by Bruce Willis) gear we should note some important things about the team

itself.

These guys are older for SEALs. They are operatiing in Africa as well. This tells me that these guys are an East Coast

based team, probably out of Team 8 (Team 8 is based out of Little Creek VA. and Operates in Africa). Also traditionally east

coast teams have tended to have older members.

Keeping this in mind it's easy to see why LT Waters' loadout is so so simple: He's an experienced operator who knows

what works and what doesn't in the jungles of Africa. The name of the game in a "snatch and grab" mission like the one

Waters' team was assigned is to go in as light as possible. So keeping that in mind, here is the gear list with some photos.

Watch: Casio G-shock DW-004VE-1V: Cost is around $75.00 and up

It's important to note that the watch actually changes to this model half way into the movie. I guess it's a consistancy

problem. There are several in the film.

Gloves: He wears Black Nomex pilots gloves that have been chopped at the fingers and thumb. He wears his watch face

on the underside of his wrist over the glove and maintains the resin watch band that came with the watch originally. The

then rolls the guantlet up to cover the watch face, thus protecting himself from inadvertant shine off the watch face.

Nothing fancy there.


His load bearing gear is great for the environment he's operating in. It's light wieght, simple, and distributes the gear

somwhat evenly while allowing him to go completely prone. He's carrying the bare minimum here to maintain mobility.


He's using a Blackhawk Industries H-Gear suspender set (you can usually pick these up for around $35.00 online) hooked

into a standard issue military web belt with plastic buckle. Note how the suspenders are attached directly to the belt and

not the pouches themselves the way the old ALICE system does. This allows him to position the suspenders where he

wants on the belt without having to worry about where he places the ALICE mag pouches he's using. Plus the Blackhawk

design allows for no chaffing on the body due to the lack of metal clips on the suspenders like the old ALICE system uses.

Check out the butt pack in the above photo. He's using a Blackhawk Industries enhanced butt pack. It's Blackhawk's take

on the military butt pack. It has the draw cord inner bag and is made of their proprietary nytaneon material. The pack uses

plastic clips intead of threaded straps which is much better than the old ALICE version. It has nylon lashing boxes on the

lid as well as D rings for attaching the reverse straps of the H harness to, which he does.

Now how do I know the brands of these items? In the production notes I found, they state an initial desire to go with

Eagle but acquiring equipment from them proved difficult as much of their gear was being issued to troops overseas and

on back order at the time of filming. So they decided to go with Blackhawk for much of the equipment used in the film.

Attached to his left side on the butt pack is a basic ALICE radio holster (at USCAV this will run about $10.00, more if you

get the Blackhawk version)with a Motorola SABER 1E submersible Radio with stubby antennae in it.

These radios are becoming easier and easier to find on ebay, both in working and non working form. The submersible

models can be tricky to find but it can be done and usually starting at $100.00. Or you can do what the fellows at

www.special-warfare.net do and use the STAR Motorola Saber bb holder ($22.00 at WGCshop) to conceal your FRS

radio:

If you look closely you'll notice a layer of velcro inside the radio body. Use industrial strength sticky backed velcro for this

and it will work great. Remember to put the opposite side on the back of your radio and you'll be good to go!

On either side of the butt pack are some old school ALICE canteen pouches. These aren't the non fur lined Blackhawk

models either. These are genuine issue goodness.



Now you may have noticed in the photos that Bruce Willis' character is carrying mag pistol mag pouches on the front of his

pants belt. In the film he uses the H&K MK 23 SOCOM .45 pistol. He carries 6 magazines for it. He has one double mag

pouch made by Eagle (around $25.00 from Eagle themselves) and two more on the other side of his buckle. These two are

independant and may be Eagle, Tactical Tailor, or London Bridge Trading Company (LBT). Check it out:

So that's four magazines for the MK 23 accounted for. But what about the other two? Well he's got one in the pistol itself

and another in the attached mag pouch on the Blackhawk SOCOM holster on his left thigh (Bruce is a lefty in real life).

You can see the holster better in the above photo as he's kneeling. This holster is getting harder to find so if you're going

for the A.K. Waters look I would get one as soon as possible before they become really tough to find. To get one from

Eagle you have to special order them and they start at $125.00! Several Blackhawk retailers still carry a few, mostly left

handed models (hurray for me!) and they only come in black. The Blackhawk holster will set you back about $65.00 and up.

The holster itself is capable of holding one MK 23 pistol, one spare magazine, and a LAM unit should you buy the Tokyo

Marui and want to keep that thing on your gun. Without the LAM unit it still secures the holster fine and is closed

bottomed.

Notice that the pistol is secured not to his web belt, but his pants belt (which is either a riggers belt or a straight up bdu

belt), as are his mags. This allows him to ditch his primary gear and still be armed with a good deal of ammunition for a

cannon of a pistol. If you were going to immitate this setup you could be carrying upt to 150 rounds (bb's at 25 bb's per

mag if you're using the KSC MK 23) on you for just the pistol alone should you have to ditch your main gear in a hurry. Very

smart and very practical.

He also utilizes a suppressor for the MK 23 at one point in the movie. This I believe was stowed in his butt pack but I

cannot confirm that at the time of this writing.

Okay let's talk knives now. The film used Emerson Knives almost exclusively. Emerson knives are great knives, many of

which are favored by members of the NAVSPECWAR community. Bruce's character carries two Emerson knives and one SOG



brand knife. The models are as follows:

The knife atached to his right shoulder strap is the Emerson Police Utility Knife (PUK) it is the satin finish model without the

partial serrations. We know this because it is the knife he uses to slit the throat of the straggler on the trail during the first

night. When he does this we see the glint of of the moon off his blade.

Here's a picture of the knife:

The knife comes with the sheath seen in the movie, it's a cordura sheath with a kydex insert. The sheath is attached to

the gear via 550 cord attached to the metal loop in the shoulder pad and 100 mph tape attached to the adjustable strap

in the front. I've seen this knife online for as cheap as $105.00.

The next nife used is the one on his thigh. This is the SOG X-42 Recondo. This knife is harder to find these days but I've

seen it listed for around $100-$150.00. If you really want to get this look correct and want this knife there are always

crazy knife collectors who might be willing to sell you theirs for a price. The knife comes with a kydex sheath that is

mounted to Waters' bdu belt with what looks like a Blackhawk Industries non slip leg strap.

The third knife is a custom job made by Emerson called the Kandahar. As far as I know, only 20 of these knives were ever

made, so good luck. I have seen these auctioned by collectors for $500 +. It's a pimp combat knife and is not a show piece

according to Emerson. While it may be very collectable due to the limited run, it is still a very tough piece of weaponry.

Now why does LT Waters carry three crazy knives on him? Well he's got one on his gear so if he has to ditch it that leaves

him with two bad ass knives. So why does he carry three crazy knives on him? You never know when you'll need a really

good knife or three.

Boots:

He appears to be wearing either Danner Arcadia Boots or Bates boots. They are most likely Bates as that is the primary

issue boot to all Navy SEALs.

BDU's:

All of the characters in the film have modified their BDU's (battle dress uniforms) to their own likeing. Bruce's character has

done a very simple modification. He has taken the bottom pockets of the shirt (blouse) and moved them to the sides of his

upper shirt sleeves. Notice that they are vertical and not at any kind of angle. Also notice the lack of velcro pileing on the

pockets themselves. There is no need for velcro in the jungle and they don't have any unit patches to display anyway.



Their bdu's are comepletely "sanatized" meaning no names, ranks, affiliations, nothing! These guys don't want anyone to

know who they are.

Many of the other soldiers have modded their shirts differently. Some have used the upper pockets on the sleeves instead

of the lowers and some have sewn them on at angles. With this post I'm just covering LT Waters' gear.

Under his BDU top he wears a black T-shirt. These are easy to come by and very cheap.

You'll notice the use of carabiners on many of the SEALs' gear. These are hard anodized, black, non locking carabiners.

Carabiners are used this way for many different uses. Most of the time SEALs will clip their slings into the carabiner and

use it as a simple weapon retention device.

A quick word about ammo pouch placement on his gear:


He carries two M4 ALICE pouches. Each holds 3 magazines and two grenades. He has four baseball fragmentation

grenades total and 7 (obvious) magazines for his M4 (6 in pouches 1 in the weapon). It is possible that he could be storing

more extra ammo in the butt pack along with his MRE's First aid kit and more.

You'll notice that the ammo pouches are not symmetrical in their placement on the belt. This is for two reasons. The one on

his left side is further back towards his left canteen. This is done so as to allow him easier access to his MK 23. The one on

his right side is placed slightly farther forward. This aids in quicker mag extraction (remember, he's a lefty so he'll be using

his right hand to change mags so he'll go to the right side first) and when he slings his rifle over his right shoulder he uses

the mag pouch to support it and keep it shouldered behind him. He slings his rifle on his right side so that if he has to go

to his pistol the rifle is not in the way. When he's moving with just his pistol as his primary he either has his main battle

gear off or the rifle slung diagonally over his body to secure the weapon even further (muzzle down).

Let's finish up by discussing his rifle:

He uses a Colt M4A1 with a Knights Armorment Coporation (KAC) Rail Interface System (RIS). Mounted to the the top fore

rail, right behind the front trianglular site is a Laser Aiming device, an exact full metal replica of which STAR makes for

$212.00 at WGCshop


At one point in the movie he uses two scopes:

The aimpoint Comp 2 and the PVS 14 Night vision scope.

The aimpoint is mounted using a "Z" type mount of which G&P makes a good replica of for around $30.00

Waters mounts the Z mount seemingly backwards in the first part of the movie with the base near the front of the gun.

The PVS is mounted near the rear. Both scopes are seen on his weapon at the same time with the aimpoint curiously

mounted backwards. This has been noted by some as a movie error but I would like to suggest that was in fact the

opposite. In order to If the optic was deactivated then the PVS would be able to see right through it since they were

aligned. So the direction the aimpoint was mounted wouldn't matter. But why then, would he, and the rest of his men

bother to mount both scopes on their rifles when they orginally inserted at the beginning of the movie? Because it's easier

to remove a scope then switch one out. They did not know what to expect of the misson itself. It could have been more of

a modern facility then it turned out to be. If that had been the case it would have been easier for them to just dismoun

their PVS scopes and stow them then dismount and trade scopes. You'll also notice that at the beginning of the movie

Bruce's character rotates the red dot to the correct orientation before he uses it in combat.

The weapon uses the older style 4 position stock and at different points in the film it is seen with a military issue rubber

stock pad and without. Stock pads can be bought for around $12.00-$30.00 depending on condition and where you look.

The rifle has a foregrip mounted further up the rail system, allowing him to hold the rifle traditionally or with the foregrip.

The magazines are taped with 100 MPH tape to form pull tabs, the precursor to modern day magpuls. This allows them to

be stored in the ALICE pouch but still be more accessable.

100 MPH tape is cheap and available at most surplus stores.

Conclusion:

Don't be decieved by the simple nature of the gear portrayed in the film. It is highly effective and practical. And pricey too if

you do the math. This loadout would be very effective as an airsoft loadout. If you were to use mid cap magazines (130

rounds each) and 25 round pistol magazines, you would be rolling with 1060 total rounds. That's a lot of ammo for some

people and a challenge for others. Either way you would be traveling very light and have a good amount of ammo for a

skirmish.
