My Kingwood Tunic
When I consider the many lives that have woven themselves into our
hearts over the past five years, I realize you all have given me a precious
garment that will last a lifetime.
I see the worn elbows and dirty spots from the hard work and ser-
vice so many have participated in to make an impact in our community and,
most importantly, in the lives of others. Every hand that was extended to our
civil servants, every collection taken to help special causes, your generous
response to hurricane victims, and so many other efforts have made me
proud to be a part of this church family.
On this special garment, it’s nice to have extra padding on the knees.
With all the visibility this body has for prayer, a fantastic email ministry,
special times of bowing together in worship, and getting down on the level
of our wonderful children, that padding’s gotta last a long time! Thank you,
church, for demonstrating in such powerful ways the value of spending
much time in kneeling.
One of the things I will treasure most about this gift is how soft it
feels to my heart and the warmth it brings whenever I wear it. Every time I
shared a sincere and welcoming handshake or saw your engaging, enthusias-
tic smiles or hugged your neck or felt the tears of joy and sorrow, I was
drawing nearer to you. Amazingly, even when I would call or visit to show
my love for you during times of illness or other challenges, *I* was the one
who would always leave those encounters encouraged! Thank you so much
for making this place so special for Terri and me and for surrounding us and
each other with so much love.
I know I could gain a great deal of satisfaction just by hanging up
this clothing and admiring it and marveling at the unique weave of each fi-
ber. It could be touching and fun to try to remember where that stain came
from or that small tear or whose heart I stored in this pocket once.
Instead, though, I think I’d like to wear it. Everyday. In fact, I
really don’t think I have a choice. Anymore, it seems like everything else I
have stashed away in drawer or closet pales in comparison and certainly
doesn’t make my soul gush the way my Kingwood Tunic does. And from
what I can tell, based on how serving and seeking and loving this church is,
everyone will be wearing one of these things. And you know how important
it is to stay in fashion!
With much appreciation, affection, and love,

E100 Challenge ........................................... Aud
The Essential 100 (E100) is a new exciting way
to read through the Bible. It is based on care-
fully selected short Bible passages - 50 from the
Old Testament and 50 from the New Testament
--that are usually one to two chapters in length
and can easily be read each day in 10 minutes
or less. It helps you get the big picture of the
Bible without getting bogged down. Since the
summer is not long enough to complete the
entire challenge, we will be doing the first half
of the challenge, the Old Testament scriptures.
By the end of the summer, we will celebrate
having read the essential parts of the Old Testa-
ment that give us the story of God and His work
in this world and our life.

Grades available to teach:
(K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th)
Make a difference in a child’s life by
teaching a reading class at Impact Hous-
ton Church of Christ. Our main focus
through the literacy program is to im-
prove the reading skills of inner city chil-
dren. We need people like you to come
and teach our children how fun and excit-
ing reading can be. You don’t need to
have any teaching experience. We will
provide a curriculum. If you would like
to teach one of the sessions, contact Llu-via Flores with Impact at 713-493-1957
or Suzy Gabriel at 281-413-0306. To our Brothers & Sisters,
Just wanted to take a minute to
say thank you for the cards and
prayers for us. The apartment,
too, is such a wonderful place to have a
“home away from home” so to speak.
We appreciate your kindness and support
through this journey. Thanks again.
Will & Emily Haney
Dear Friends,
Words are totally inadequate to thank you
for the many kindnesses shown us during
John’s hospitalization and return home.
Every visit, every call, every card lifted
our spirits, and every prayer is so appreci-
ated. You have truly carried us on the
wings of love during this stressful time.
Many of you provided transportation that
was so helpful and helped eliminate that
stress. The food brought to our home was
delicious and we sincerely appreciate the
effort you have made in providing not
only for our spiritual and emotional
strength, but for our physical needs. The
Lord has blessed us richly through your
tender and constant care.

GRADUATE ...Chris Doshier (son of Tim
& Kathy) graduated Friday
from UTI with a certificate in
auto, diesel, and industrial tech-
nology (4.0 grade average). He will be
going to an International training pro-
gram in Chicago and then working for
International (job site unknown at this
time).
A “BIG” thank you goes to the
Kitchen Crew who served us
during the school year on Wednes-
day nights.
Keith Clark, Ginny Elkins, Sara Foley,
Jeff Fowler, Edie George, Leroy & Pen-
nie Kelley, Bob Little, Levi Mason, Mar-
tha Mierendorf, Karen Power, Johnny Youngblood, AND Elesa Mason (for her
yummy breads and desserts)!
MILITARY BULLETIN BOARD We are in the process of up-
dating our military bulletin
board and prayer list. If you
know of someone on our list
who is no longer serving in the military, or
if you have a relative or friend you would
like to add to the list, please e-mail Pam
Baker ([email protected]) or
Jeanese Bailey ([email protected]) and
let them know.
COUPONING? Do you coupon? If not,
someone else does and might
appreciate your coupons. No
babies or kids in your house-
hold? Plenty do and would
appreciate those coupons targeted at
those age groups. All this to say—we
have placed a large box in the FLC to
share coupons. Leave some, take some;
just be kind and not greedy. There is
also a box for magazines you no longer
need, but would like to share with some-
one.
TOYS
If you have toys in good
condition that you would
like to donate to CSK, please
bring them to Gaylynn Vorn-dran in the school office.
