Summer 2013

While summer is days filled with low pace, relaxing in the sun

and long days off for most people; at Kingsland summer is

one of the busiest periods throughout the year.

We are now preparing the new Kingsland Winter 2013

collection. All the items are ready to be shipped out to stores

world wide in August. In addition to the new arrivals we will

also present the whole collection online, as well as sending

adverts and catalogs to shops, magazines and distributors.

This summer we are also currently working on several new

collections inhouse and we are also busy planning our next

photo shoot for the catalog for summer 2014.

We recently held our bi-annual sales

meeting with our international wholesalers

in our brand new head office in Norway;

and we are pleased about the response

for the Kingsland summer 2014 collection.

Great result for Kingsland rider Johan Gulliksen in the Under 25 Master Class at Hickstead in June; he ended 4th on Baby Guinness! In Fontainebleau Kingsland rider Angelica Augustsson was 6th in the Grand Prix on s.I.E.C. Livello and 9th in the 1.40 class on Fraeulein Wunder s, while Gregory Wathelet and Riesling du Monselet ended 5th in the 1.45 class. Congrats to all on super results! Kingsland rider Marcus Ehning had another good day in Rotterdam and ended 13th on Cornado NRW in the Grand Prix as well as being 9th on Funky Fred in the accumulator class! Well done! super result for Kingsland rider Geir Gulliksen who won the 1.50 class at Hickstead on saturday riding Vennoot! Geir’s daughter Victoria was also placed on Urval. In Fontainebleau Kingsland-rider Gregory Wathelet took home the 1.45 class on Riesling du Monselet. In Rotterdam Kingsland-rider Judy-Ann Melc-hior was placed in both the 1.50 class on Aragon Z and in the 1.45 class on Levisto Z.

Congratulations to Kingsland Dressage rider Alexandra Andresen with a great effort in the Nordic Championship winning the gold both individually and as part of the Norwegian team. Kingsland Dressage rider Andreas Helgstrand and the five year old stallion Floricello 1219 won the preliminary class in Falsterbo in july.

The Kingsland riders did good on the opening day in Falsterbo; Marcus Ehning was 7th in the 1.50 Grand Prix qualifieron Copin van de Broy and 9th in the 1.45 class on Campbel, while Angelica Augustsson was 11th on Ullrichequine’s Candy Man. Well done to both! Congratulations to Kingsland Dressage rider Andreas Helgstrand on the win in Falsterbo, sweden, with the stallion Floricello 1219. Kingsland rider Marcus Ehning was on the winning German Nations Cup in Falsterbo on Plot Blue! Congratulations!

A huge congrats to Kingsland rider Angelica Augustsson who won the three star Grand Prix in Münster on Mic Mac du Tillard! Congrats to Kingsland rider Leopold van Asten, who was 4th in the Youngster Tour in Ascona both Friday and saturday riding VDL Groep Alexia Z. He was also 5th in the 1.45 class on VDL Groep Quinthago Z.

Kingsland rider Marcus Ehning was on the German Nations Cup team that won at Hickstead– producing a double clear on Plot Blue! Huge congrats to Marcus and his team! A huge congrats to Kingsland rider Guy Williams who won the 1.45 class at Hickstead on Bijou van de Vijfheide, and then ended second in the 1.50 class on Depardieu van T Kiezelhof! Kingsland rider Marcus Ehning was also in the ribbons – he ended 5th in the 1.50 class on Copin van de Broy. our riders were in the ribbons as well; at the CsI3* show in ommen Angelica Augustsson was 5th in the youngster class on Ullrichequine’s Bartani, while Geir Gulliksen and Vennott ended 3rd in the 1.35 class in Kapellen. Well done to both! Congrats to Kingsland rider Guy Williams - second in the speed class at Hickstead on saturday on Bijouvan de Vijfheid!

AN UPdATE

Big congrats to Kingsland rider Gregory Wathelet who took home the Prix Clinique de Loeche-les-Bains on Riesling du Monselet at the CsI3* event in Crans Montana, and then ended 6th in the Prix des 6 Communes.

Kingsland rider Marcus Ehning was second in the Longines King George V Gold Cup on Copin van de Broy. Congratulations! Congrats to Kingsland rider Victoria Gulliksen; 5th in the 1.35 class in Kapellen on Billy Buttercup. In the 1.40 class her father Geir ended 7th on Vennoot, and he was also placed in the Grand Prix on Edesa s Bandjan.

We are presenting our new catalog these days and we wanted to show you some of our behind the scenes photos. To be able to give you a great catalogue with such beautiful pictures requires lots of planning, and just as important, we take the photos almost half a year in advance of releasing each catalogue.

For the Winter 2013 catalog we travelled to Zangersheide and Judy Ann Melchior in Belgium, and to the fantastic ski resort Hemsedal in Norway. The photo shoot days are long and lots of hard work, but also a lot of fun for everyone involved!

The Kingsland photo shoots are popular with our riders, photographers, models and stylists.

Daphne and Henriette from Kingsland in charge of accessories and making sure the clothes fit right on our model for the shoot, Livia.

Tell us a little about your background, where you grew up, when you started riding and how the equestrian sport has influenced your childhood and youth.

I started riding at a young age, both my parents rode in their youth, my mother in dressage and my father did a little of everything but especially 3 day eventing. I first started riding ponies, both jumping and dressage. At that time I was training in spain until the age of 14 years old where I moved to Germany with Cornelia Endres, that is when I started dressage seriously. In 2007, I participated at the Eu-CH-P in Freudenberg and finished 12th in the big final. I quickly moved to Juniors, training with Jan Bemmelmans and Jan Nivelle, I qualified for EU-CH-J in 2008,2009,2010. My best year was 2010 with my super horse Dankeschön. In 2010, we bought my superstar Painted Black and moved to Erp, The Netherlands with Anky Van Grunsven. I learned a lot from Anky. I moved to Holland to live permanently in April 2011, to prepare fully for the 2012 olympic Games and taking a gap year

from school. The equestrian sport has had a lot of influence on my childhood since I was living in switzerland but riding in Germany and then Holland. I was studying at the International school of Geneva and preparing for the IB. It taught me how to get organized, my parents rule was no good grades meant no horses therefore I had to manage my studies and my horses. To do a high sport level and top studies takes a lot of time, energy and straight thinking. It’s also a lot of sacrifices for both my parents and myself, with a lot of travelling and again organization. But the best part is that I always had the support of my family because my little sister is riding as well so we are always together. Having friends was hard since I was always gone, but the true ones are still here and are supporting me. Now I have started University again and I am managing sports and studies. Everything I have learned along the way helps me, not only in the organization but also in my every day to day life, my way of acting, my way of studying, to know how to divide my time and to know where my priorities are.

What is your motivation to keep on training and what do you emphasize the most in the day-to-day training?

I love riding my horses everyday, seeing them progress is a big motivation for me. I give myself a plan in my day-to-day training to keep on moving forward. I try to keep my horses happy and willing to work. Its important for me to have a good and strong basis. When basics are good then the exercises are easier to do. In my day-to-day training exercises are not really important, they are a priority when a show is coming up. For the rest it’s just fun for them and me. A happy horse is the golden rule in our stable.

Tell us a little about your current top horse, what does a normal day for him or her look like?

Painted Black is my current top horse, we call him PB. He is a beautiful little black stallion of 16 years old, from Gribaldi x Ferro. He is the sweetest and would give me his heart. He is caring, gentle, funny and very smart. only thing is that we have to watch out when food comes, then he turns into a monster. A normal day for PB, is a good brush time before a 30 minutes hand walk in the morning. He is the first to go on the list since he likes the extra attention. After the rider he gets a good shower and once dried up we put him back in the stall. About an hour later he gets 30 minutes of magnetic blanket and the spa. In the afternoon if the sun is shining he goes out and can enjoy the fresh green grass at the yard followed by a little walk. In the evening he is last to go out again with a 30-minute hand walk before the night bandages go on. He is very spoiled and gets carrots all day long especially when my mom is in the stables.

Who is your current trainer and what influence does he or she have in your career?

Andreas Helgstrand is my current trainer, I started training with him in June. I am extremely happy at Helstrand Dressage, the atmosphere is great! Andreas is very supportive and precise in his teaching. He found my weak points straight away and is giving me great help. I am very eager to continue to work with him, we make a good team. Not only my trainer has an influence on my career but my family as well, for all the support and advice they give me, without them I would be nothing. I thank my parents for giving me the opportunity to have the best horses.

Your best memory from a competition is?

The most amazing memory for me was to enter the 2012 London olympic ring at the age of 19. I can’t describe the feeling, “the stress killed the stress”. The Grand-Prix was my best ride with PB and I came out of the arena crying of joy. I will never forget the partnership I had with my horse, he gave me everything nor the warm atmosphere of the public.

How do you feel about the Kingsland clothes? What do you like the best about the brand?

I just love every bit of it. From the riding pants to the sweaters, they are great. The cut always fits, colours are bright, but always in a very stylish way. The casual wear is also super. I find it easy to wear not only in the stables but also in town. I find the brand very classy and with superb quality. The clothes always look good and there is a lot to choose from!! And the people at Kingsland are great, friendly, fun and helpful!

Any advice to young riders training to become better?

set yourself a (reasonable) goal, work for it. Don’t get angry if you don’t improve every day. Grant every improvement and take mistakes as lessons and try to learn

from them. Mistakes are there to learn from, if you do not make mistakes you can’t improve. Nobody is perfect. Try to learn as much as you can from everyone, everybody has a tip that may help you one day. Most important keep your head up and never give up.

Goals for the next the years?

My main goals are to be able to qualify for the World Cup finals, WEG 2014, EC Aachen 2015 and of course my dream would be to participate with my little sister Alexandra (also starting her senior career at the age of 18) at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro olympic games.

Kingsland is proud to have the pres-tigious department store Harrods as one of our British retailers. When Harrods and the Kingsland wholesalers in England decided to have a shop at the GCT it was natural for us to travel to London to be part of the event.

The Longines GCT has become one of the biggest events in the equestrian world and draws thousands of spectators in every location. London was no exception and the crowds seemed pleased with both the show and the shopping at the olympic park.

The Kingsland shop in shop with Harrods is the first of it´s kind. No other brand has been featured like Kingsland together with Harrods before.
