FARMERS DAY FUNDRAISER - Last Tuesday the school was filled with students and teachers who dressed up as
fabulous farmers and donated proceeds to ‘Buy a Bale’. Our reputation as a school with a strong sense of community was
once again evident on the day. Instead of achieving our aim of ten large bales of hay our community was so generous in
their support of our country cousins that we ended up raising $3,000, almost thirty large bales of hay. Wow! Well done
Kings Langley Public School.
FATHER’S DAY - Father’s Day was an opportunity for us to thank our loved ones for their contributions to our lives.
Last week, the Father’s Day Concert by Year 2 was well attended and the students enjoyed putting on a wonderful show.
The Father’s Day Raffle was also a huge event with funds raised for our school. The raffle prizes were spectacular and the
people lucky to have their ticket pulled from the hat appear later in this Log.
P&C MEETING - Our next P&C meeting will be held on Monday September 10, 2018 at 7.30pm in the Library. At this
meeting Mrs Lees will give us an update on the Adventure Playground. We will also give some feedback on our progress
of the 2018-2020 School Plan.
TERM 3 REPORTS - Term 3 reports will be distributed to parents on Thursday September 13 for all classes K-6. Each
parent will receive a one page report on their child’s Social Development and Commitment to Learning. There is also a
section where the classroom teacher will tick if an interview is required. We hope this page will provide you with more
information about your child’s attitude to school in Term 3.

WORLD VISION - SPONSOR A CHILD
NO HOMEWORK WEEK 2018
As our on-going commitment to KLPS’s two World Vision sponsored
children, we are having our annual NO HOMEWORK WEEK - LAST
WEEK OF TERM (Monday September 24 to Friday September 28)
All students and teachers pay $2 (50c per night) for the privilege of
not having homework /marking for the entire week.
Each year we raise enough money to sponsor the 2 children, send
them cards and small gifts for birthdays and Christmas, support
their families and improve their life and community for a twelve
month period.
Generally speaking, sponsorship needs to be a commitment lasting 5
-7 years. This results in a positive outcome for these families and
communities and the cycle of poverty is broken for them.
We hope you support World Vision in 2018.
We all benefit - NO HOMEWORK / MARKING for four nights
resulting in two children and their families and communities
living with the prospect of a future.
Thank you for your support,
The SRC

CONFLICT RESOLUTION
As part of our PBL process our focus for this semester is teaching students
positive ways to resolve conflicts. Conflicts are a normal part of any relationship;
however we can choose whether this is prosocial or negative. The first step in
this process is to support students to use “I statements”.
The main aim this semester is for students to:
Understand what an “I statement” is and why using” I statements” are
important
Be able to form “I statements” based on various conflict scenarios
Apply this in everyday life (at home and school)
Feel free to encourage the use of this strategy at home when natural conflicts
occur such as losing a game, eating vegetables or debating the use of
technology.
KINGS LANGLEY PUBLIC SCHOOL P&C – FIRST EVER COLOUR EXPLOSION!
This week each Kings Langley student will bring home a pamphlet about the
KLPS P&C RunFun which will be a colour run. The P&C COLOUR RUN is free for
all KLPS students to participate in. The aim is to get people to sponsor the
students to participate in the event on the day. Please see the details about
how to create an online profile and more information about prizes can be
found later in the LOG. There will also be a hand out sent home (the same
information found a little later in the LOG) to accompany the pamphlet.
On the day we are asking all children to wear mufti clothing/active wear and comfortable sport
shoes they can run in. They cannot be coloured if they are in school uniform. Wearing a white
t-shirt (old or new) will get the most spectacular results when the kids are covered in coloured
powder from head to toe!!! But more about that in the next LOG. The day’s focus is on fun and
fitness with the added benefit of raising funds for our school.
It is our responsibility to seek permission for your child to participate in the P&C Colour Run. All
measures have been taken to ensure that this event is safe for all students. There will be various
colour powder stations throughout the course with options for students to opt out on colour at
each station. Your child can still participate in the event should you not wish for them to be
sprayed with colour powder (cornflour and food colouring). The P&C volunteers will do their best
to throw the powder at the torso, however wind and other factors can cause the powder to
protrude on the face. Children can wear sunglasses and/or headbands for the event or children
can bring in their own goggles to wear if you’d prefer. If you do not want your child to be involved
in the event, either totally or to bypass the stations, please inform your child’s teacher in writing. =============================================================================
SCHOOL COLOUR FUN RUN - HELPERS

Attention all Grandparents and special friends!
Mark Thursday 20th September on your calendar.
Kings Langley Public School will be recognising and celebrating our
Grandparents and special friends on Thursday 20th September.
We would like to invite you up to school to visit us in our classrooms
from 12.20pm and enjoy a picnic lunch afterwards.
Dear Parent/Guardian,
We will be holding the School Fun-Run as a major fundraising event this year on 28th September! We’re doing it to raise
much needed money for resources for our school.
About the Program
The School Fun-Run promotes healthy and active lifestyles while helping us raise funds! It’s all about participation, with
students treated to a great day as a reward for their fundraising efforts. Family support is key to our fundraising success
and we encourage everyone to get involved.
How Does My Child Fundraise?
Firstly, go to schoolfundraising.com.au and create a student profile page. Everything to do with your fundraising revolves
around this page. Once you have completed this, read through your Sponsorship Form which is handed out with the LOG
this week, which has instructions on how to raise money and order prizes.
Students who raise just $10 will receive a reward for their effort. The more they raise, the better their reward – don’t forget
to check these out in the sponsorship form! We have educated students on the dangers of door knocking without adult
supervision, and we encourage you to reiterate this at home. The best people to ask for sponsorship are people you know
(e.g. friends, family, work colleagues and neighbours).
Online Fundraising
The easiest way to help your child raise money is through online fundraising, where students raise an average of $120. On
top of raising more money, it’s also safer and easier than doorknocking and you don’t have to worry about handling
money! To start fundraising online, go to your student profile page at schoolfundraising.com.au and share your online
fundraising link. Although going online is the preferred option, for those who can’t do so then the P&C will collect
fundraising forms and any cash donations each morning of the first week of Term 4 at the front of the school.
Getting Involved
Not only can you support the school and students with your sponsorship – but you can join in on the fun! We would love
to welcome parents and family members to attend the School Fun-Run. If you would also like to volunteer to help on the
day, please contact Andrew King, our P&C coordinator, on the details below:
We can’t wait to see you at our event!
Ordering Prizes – ALL PRIZES MUST BE ORDERED ONLINE Prizes MUST be ordered between the 19th October and 2nd November. Simply visit schoolfundraising.com.au to create /
log into your Profile Page between these dates. Then click on the ‘CLAIM YOUR PRIZE’ button and follow the prompts.
If you have any questions, please contact the School Fun-Run team on 1800 FUN RUN and they will gladly assist!
Thank you, good luck and happy fundraising!
Waste-Free Lunch Challenge Wednesday, 19th September 2018.
Dear Parents,
Kings Langley Public School is holding a Waste-Free Lunch Challenge on Wednesday, 19th
September 2018.
On this day, we ask that your child’s lunch contain as few items as possible that must be thrown
away. Ideally, your child’s lunch will only contain items that will be eaten, composted or
recycled.
Examples of how to pack waste-free lunch items are provided. Reusable containers are a handy
way to pack a waste-free lunch. They also make it easy to buy food and drink in bulk (instead of
in single-servings) which can save money over time.
The Waste-Free Lunch Challenge is one of Kings Langley Public School sustainability education
initiatives. By participating, students will have a better understanding of how we can take action
to reduce our waste. Waste-free lunches also save money and promote healthy eating.
If your child cannot bring a waste-free lunch from home, we would encourage them to make
selections from the canteen that support this initiative.
Fruit and vegetable scraps (e.g. apple cores and banana skins) will be composted at the school
through our compost/worm farming system.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the Waste-Free Lunch Challenge, please
don’t hesitate to contact Mrs Muller on 96744460.
Thank you for supporting your child’s participation in Kings Langley Public School’s Waste-Free
Lunch Challenge.
Yours sincerely,
KLPS Science Teachers
Tips for Waste-Free Lunches Waste-free lunches contain only items that are eaten, composted or recycled. They don’t contain wrappers or
packaging that will be thrown in the rubbish bin.
Example of lunch items with waste
Sandwich in disposable cling wrap or plastic
sandwich bag
Chips or pretzels in a plastic/foil packet
Juice in a squeeze pouch, with a plastic straw
Yoghurt in squeeze pouches or plastic ‘shot’
bottles
Individually-wrapped muesli bars
Pre-packaged fruit salad in a small plastic tub
or tin
Pre-packaged ‘snack pack’ of crackers and
cheese spread
Individually-wrapped confectionary bars or
cakes
Individually-wrapped cheese sticks / strings
Disposable cutlery
Example of items in a waste-free lunch
Sandwich in a snug-fitting reusable container
Snacks in a reusable container
Water, juice or other drinks in a reusable and resealable
bottle, filled at home from a bulk container
Yoghurt in a small reusable container, filled at home from
a bulk container
‘Trail mix’ in a reusable container
Whole fruits without packaging or fruit pieces in reusable
containers
Raw or salad vegetables such as carrot, lettuce, tomato,
cucumber and celery, plus a small container of dip.
Muffin, fruit bread or biscuits in a reusable container
Cubes/slices of cheese in a reusable container
Durable cutlery that is designed to be washed and reused
Reusable containers – Using reusable containers is the cornerstone of a waste-free lunch! Suitably sized containers will keep
sandwiches intact and make little treats easy to pack. Although reusable containers may have a higher upfront cost than a roll
of plastic wrap, they are durable, they will save you money in the longer term and they will help to reduce waste.
Buying in bulk – Buying items such as juice, yoghurt, crackers, biscuits and cheese in bulk quantities or containers, rather than
in individual servings, will probably save you money as well as reduce waste. It also allows your child to drink or eat only as
much as they want at one time, and then they can reseal the container.
Recyclable packaging – We understand that some children’s lunches may need to contain packaged food items for dietary,
religious or other reasons. Check which types of packaging are recycled before making a selection.
Lastly, join the Waste-Free Lunch Challenge!
Seeing you go waste-free for lunch at the same time is the best possible motivation for your child.
Performing Arts News
Congratulations to the Contemporary Dance Ensemble who performed beautifully at the Blacktown Festival of the
Performing Arts on Tuesday night. The students represented our school with pride. Many audience members commented
on the quality of the piece and the technique of these dancers.
This year’s Challenge has now closed for student’s entries. A fantastic 477 wonderful
students have completed the necessary reading and have finished the Challenge for this
year. This compares to last year’s total of 360 students. A great improvement, helped in part
by availability of laptops in primary library lessons and lunch times.
Thanks also to the many parents and older sibling who helped enter their children’s reading
records.
Certificates are due to school early December. Mrs Christine Andrews Teacher/Librarian. & PRC Coordinator.

Kings Langley Public School has registered for Fruit & Veg Month 2018. The theme for this year is ‘Happy Fruit & Veg’tember!’ Fruit & Veg Month 2018 runs for the last 4 weeks of Term 3, Monday 3rd to Friday 28th September. As part of Fruit & Veg Month, students will be involved in various classroom activities which encourage them to eat more fruit and vegetables.
What can you do to help your kids eat more fruit
and veg?
We know that the more fruits and vegetables you offer your family, the more likely they are to eat more of them. So, this Fruit & Veg Month, we challenge your family to get adventurous! Family Challenge As part of Fruit & Veg Month, Healthy Kids Association has partnered with Harvey Norman, Foost, and Harris Farm Markets for this year’s family challenge.
Only 1 in 20 Aussie children (and adults!) are eating enough fruit and vegetables. So, this Fruit & Veg Month, we challenge families to get adventurous! Include a new fruit and vegetable each week over the month of September and let us know how you went.
There are three prize packs to be won. Each pack is valued at over $350 RRP and includes a Breville Searing Slow Cooker, Foost healthy shopping pack (including a trolley bag, reusable shopping bags, meal planner and shopping planner) and Harris Farm Markets vouchers.
Go to the Fruit & Veg Month webpage (www.fruitandvegmonth.com.au) and click on the link to the Happy Fruit & Veg’tember Family Challenge webpage for more information and entry details.
NEW Junior Band 2019
Following the outstanding success of our current Junior Band this year, we are excited
to announce our recruitment process for a new Junior Band to start in 2019 for any
interested students from years 2 & 3.
All year 2 and 3 students will attend a short demonstration concert at school on
Wednesday morning, 12 September at 9:00am in the HALL. (Parents welcome to
attend)
INFORMATION NIGHT ~ Monday 17 September at 7:00pm in the HALL
This information evening is a vital component in our selection process and as such
ALL interested students from Years 2 and 3 must attend along with a parent or
guardian. Permission notes will be distributed at the meeting to allow students to sit
aptitude testing during the following week on Tuesday 25 September at 11:20am.
* N.B. Failure to attend this Information Night without a
written explanation of absence will mean that students are unable to
continue with the remainder of the selection process.
TRY NIGHT & INFORMATION ~ Thursday 25 October, 6:30pm in the Library
The ‘TRY NIGHT’ is the only opportunity that interested students have to be able to
have a try out on the instruments that they are interested in. We have tutors and
instruments on hand to help guide students and parents towards selecting the right
instruments.
Both of these evenings are highly informative and are crucial components in our
selection process for Junior Band 2019, and as such are compulsory. Please put these
dates on your calendar now and plan to be there!

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER
R U OK? is a Charity working to ensure everyone feels connected and is protected from suicide.
We all experience life’s ups and downs. There are difficulties in life which can be really challenging and sadly, many people feel they
don’t have anyone to confide in. But there is something that can help.
YOU
R U OK? impact is helping make a difference to the people in your circle who are struggling. Could I encourage you to spend time
with people around you because when our relationships are strong we are more likely to see those signs that someone is struggling.
When you notice those signs or just feel that something is not quite right with a friend, colleague, loved one, team mate or neighbour we
want you to trust that gut instinct, reach out to them and ask R U OK?
You can learn the 4 steps to navigating a conversation when someone says “No, I’m not OK”
1. ASK R U OK?
IF
PUSH BACK
2. LISTEN WITHOUT JUDGEMENT
Be relaxed, friendly and concerned in your approach.
Help them open up by asking questions like "How are you going?" or "What’s been happening?"
Mention specific things that have made you concerned for them, like "You seem less chatty than usual. How are you going?"
If they don’t want to talk, don’t criticise them.
Tell them you’re still concerned about changes in their behaviour and you care about them.
Avoid a confrontation.
You could say: “Please call me if you ever want to chat” or “Is there someone else you’d rather talk to?”
Take what they say seriously and don't interrupt or rush the conversation.
Don’t judge their experiences or reactions but acknowledge that things seem tough for them.
If they need time to think, sit patiently with the silence.
Encourage them to explain: "How are you feeling about that?" or "How long have you felt that way?"
Show that you've listened by repeating back what you’ve heard (in your own words) and ask if you have understood them properly.
HOW TO ASK
3. ENCOURAGE ACTION
IF
NEED EXPERT HELP
Some conversations are too big for family and friends to take on alone. If someone’s been really low for more than 2 weeks - or is at
risk - please contact a professional as soon as you can.

4. CHECK IN
WORRIED SOMEONE MIGHT BE SUICIDAL?
Contact Lifeline for crisis support. If life is in danger, call 000
Ask: “What have you done in the past to manage similar situations?”
Ask: “How would you like me to support you?"
Ask: “What’s something you can do for yourself right now? Something that’s enjoyable or relaxing?”
You could say: "When I was going through a difficult time, I tried this... You might find it useful too."
If they've been feeling really down for more than 2 weeks, encourage them to see a health professional. You could say, "It might be
useful to link in with someone who can support you. I'm happy to assist you to find the right person to talk to.”
Be positive about the role of professionals in getting through tough times.
Pop a reminder in your diary to call them in a couple of weeks. If they're really struggling, follow up with them sooner.
You could say: "I've been thinking of you and wanted to know how you've been going since we last chatted."
Ask if they've found a better way to manage the situation. If they haven't done anything, don't judge them. They might just need
someone to listen to them for the moment.
Stay in touch and be there for them. Genuine care and concern can make a real difference.
