Have you ever seen a picture of a King Cobra? Did you notice anything special about it? Well, look closer and you might see what is so special about it! You may see the folded skin on it’s neck called a hood, but when it expands it, the King Cobra may be frightening! If you want to know more, read on!

Page 3: King Cobras and How They Live

There are many special things about the King Cobra. A few of them are the black and yellow pattern of the scales on their back and that the female is longer than the male. Most King Cobras grow to be eight-teen feet in length! They have two, really sharp fangs that can fold up into the snake’s gums and they contain enough poison to kill an elephant (even though they don’t eat elephant)! One last thing before we move on to the habitat, the King Cobra has a hood on it’s neck with eyespots on it to confuse the predator. Now we go to the jungle to see the King Cobra’s habitat.

Now that we have reached the tropical rain forests of India, let’s go find the King Cobra. The female creates a sort of duplex for herself and the eggs. The male just sleeps anywhere really. Tropical rain forests don’t change very much so the animals don’t have to worry about weather. Now, let’s go find the King Cobra in action(a.k.a eating)!

Shhhh! I see a King Cobra sneaking up on its prey! Let’s go examine it! A King Cobra’s diet consists of rodents and other snakes. One of my theories is that the venom from the King Cobra is so strong that it kills the animal before it feels pain. Now I can tell you about its life cycle. Two months after the egg is laid, it hatches into a baby snake. After the egg hatches the mother leaves and the baby snakes have to fend for them selves. Thankfully, they baby snakes know that when their born. Snakes live for twenty five years before they die. It was really nice meeting you and I hope I get to see you again!

There are many special things about King Cobras, like what they look like, and how they live. I have worked hard to tell you every thing I know about them. I was really surprised when I found out one bite from a King Cobra contains enough poison to kill an elephant and I bet you were surprised too! I learned a lot about King Cobras and I hope you did to! If you see a King Cobra, watch its hood and if you see it open you may be surprised.
