Lions Peace Poster Competition 2020 - "Peace through Service" Congratulations to all those students who participated in this competition. The posters were of a very high standard and the judges had a very difficult task. The 11 Year old age group winners at Milton Public School are Matilda, Grace and Phoenix and the 12 Year age group winners are Kaydee and Anthony. The posters have been forwarded to the Ulladulla Lions Club where they will be judged and an overall winner will be announced for this area. More information will be communicated to parents shortly about the presentation at the Dunn Lewis Centre. Mrs Clark

Lions Club Public Speaking The Milton/Ulladulla Lions Club Junior Public Speaking Competition has been postponed due to Covid19. The competition for 2020 will be held on 3

rd March 2021. The

students involved have been informed and speeches will be held off until early next year.

NAIDOC Mufti Day Reminder Just a reminder that we will be having a mufti day tomorrow Wednesday 4

th November for NAIDOC. We are

encouraging students to wear black, red and yellow or clothing with an Aboriginal design. There will be a gold coin donation and the money raised will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation to buy books for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children living in remote areas. We look forward to this day being a celebration and acknowledgement of Aboriginal culture. Thank you for your support. Mrs Naomi Rafidi MPS Aboriginal Coordinator

School Attendance Milton Public School has recently switched on the new SMS text messaging system for absences. At 11:00am daily a message is sent to parents if their child is away and no explanation has been listed. This system lets parents communicate the reason for their child's absence. It allows for instant communication in a simple and convenient way, recording it in a single attendance platform. The SMS text messaging system is secure and reliable, and no longer relies on a note sent home from the school.

Book Week Parade 2020 The Book Week Parade videos are available to view on the Milton Public School Website. A video for each stage has been created. They can be found in the news section at https://milton-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/ or in the Milton Public School Movies page under the Learning at Our School Menu.

Library News - Scholastic Book Fair A Scholastic Book Fair is a lively and fun event that enables children, parents, teachers and community members to purchase quality books and classroom materials at reasonable prices. Milton Public School’s Book Fair is coming very soon. It is just around the corner, with books arriving in week six. The Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled from Thursday November 19

th to Friday

November 27th in the Library. Due to Covid 19 there will be

Attention parents/carers of Year 5 students 2020 Selective high schools cater for intellectually gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates of their own academic standard. Applications for Year 7 entry to selective high schools

in 2022 will be accepted from Tuesday 13 October 2020 to Monday 16 November 2020. This includes the virtual Selective High School Aurora College.

Parents must apply online at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7

All applicants are required to sit the Selective High School Placement Test to be held on Thursday 11 March 2021.

Tips on being an actively engaged dad This month we are looking at what it means to be an actively engaged dad, and why it is important for you and your kids to do things together. Here are a few tips on how to be an actively engaged dad around school and sporting activities – they will love it and so will you. Keep track of your children’s

upcoming events each term and put these dates in your calendar.

Arrange your work schedule around these events whenever possible.

When you attend these events let your children know that they are your top priority. Don’t spend the time on your mobile phone.

When you attend events, give your full attention. Your child will notice if you are not watching or participating.

Get involved in weekend sport - from being a coach to giving a hand on the BBQ. It is a great way to connect with your kids.

Be supportive at your kid’s activities and encourage them with positive messages.

Join their school roster as a classroom helper so you get to be in the class with your child during school.

Volunteer to help at school activities – sports carnivals, camps or school social family events. Kids like to see their parents involved.

Regularly do the school drop off or pick up to connect with your child and their school. The commute or walk is a great time for a catch up.
