WHAT IS A PAEDIATRIC DENTIST?
A paediatric dentist is a dentist who in addition to the usual dental degree, has completed 3 years specialist training focussed solely on the dental treatment of children. We are paediatricians for kid’s teeth.
WHY FIX BABY TEETH? !
Baby (primary) teeth play a very important role in the dental and overall development of children. Healthy primary teeth enable a child to chew properly and look and feel better. They also provide guidance for their developing permanent teeth, enable proper speech and articulation, and reduce long-term decay risk.
If decayed primary teeth are not treated, pain and infection may develop that can have a long-term negative impact on their developing adult teeth, and the child’s general growth and development.
W H E N S H O U L D M Y C H I L D V I S I T KINDERDENTAL? !
The Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry recommends a child’s first visit at 1 year of age.
WHEN SHOULD I START BRUSHING MY CHILD’S TEETH?
Teeth should be cleaned, with a soft brush as soon as they are visible. Children’s toothpaste is generally recommended from 18 months of age.
MY CHILD GRINDS THEIR TEETH. IS THIS A PROBLEM?
Bruxism (grinding), snoring, and sleep-disordered breathing should not be ignored. These signs of poor quality sleep may have negative effects on behaviour, and long-term physical and emotional development. We recommend you seek professional advice.
