Kundalini Yoga 5 Week Addiction Series Kundalini Yoga has greatly aided me in my addiction recovery. I feel confident, empowered, and full of vitality in regards to my addictions. Different than 12 step programs, I do not feel like I am powerless over drugs and alcohol, rather I am mindful over their demerits on my life and I am able to make choices with power and assurance that I am doing what is right for me. Similar to 12 step programs in the concept that a “higher power” is available for me to tap into to help relieve and alleviate the stresses and life conditions that make an addict - such as myself - want to use. I will focus in on Kriya’s and meditations that will give the student release from fears and anxiety, move anger through the body, calm and ease the mind, and give the body a strong physical workout. Breath techniques will be used to throughout and an optional Sadhana practice will be outlined to give the student more support in their recovery. I’ll be working out of the following books and resources: 1. Praana Praanee Praanayam 2. Relax and Renew 3. Self Experience 4. Self Knowledge 5. YogiBhajan.org I will include the following exercises and pranayam in warm ups 1. Spinal Warmups 2. Shoulder Shrugs 3. Life Nerve Stretches 4. Long Deep Breathing (LDB) 5. Kundalini Yoga 5 Week Addiction SeriesKundalini Yoga has greatly aided me in my addiction recovery.  I feel confident,

empowered, and full of vitality in regards to my addictions.

I’ll be working out of the following books and resources:1. Praana Praanee Praanayam2. Relax and Renew3. Self Experience4. Self Knowledge5. YogiBhajan.org

I will include the following exercises and pranayam in warm ups 1. Spinal Warmups2. Shoulder Shrugs3. Life Nerve Stretches4. Long Deep Breathing (LDB)5. Breath of Fire (BoF)

I will include a quote from 12 Step Literature as well as tying each of the five classes to an AA Step that is relevant to our theme and recovery using Kundalini Yoga

1. Serenity is not freedom from the storm but peace amid the storm2. Bring the body and the mind will follow3. Will power = our willingness to use a higher power4. Anger is but one letter away from danger5. Everyday is a gift that is why we call it the present

I will use 5 of the 12 steps found in a 12 step program within my theme1. Step 1 - We admitted we were powerless over our addiction - that our lives had

become unmanageable2. Step 2 Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to

sanity3. Step 3 Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we

understood God4. Step 6 Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character

Page 2: Kindalini Yoga 5 Week Addiction Program

5. Step 11 Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge of God's will for us and the power to carry that out

Daily Sadhana Practice

I will offer up to consult and guide any willing participant through a 40 day Sadhana.  The sadhana will be a short 11-15 minute program (longer if the student is willing and I think they can keep up).  The practice will encompass:

1. Opening and closing mantras2. A breath practice3. A mantra or meditation kriya4. A resting pose

I will use my skills as an AA sponsor to understand where each student is at and how best to support them.  I will effectively act as an AA “sponsor” for 40 days.  During that time I will assist each student in supporting their daily sadhana.  As the 40 day period comes to a close I will discuss next steps with the student to determine if they want to continue on with a sadhana or what else may be in store for them.
