It Begins with Baptism!
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28. RSV" When we are baptized, an identity, one that supersedes all others, is bestowed upon us. We become the baptized people of God... in Christ. This is the starting point for the rest of our lives where communication is developed and relationships are shaped...in Christ. So often, we allow wealth or
educational achievement or heritage to dictate our identities, but when we begin with baptism, we are launched into communities with an agreement in Christ and our conversations are not about what makes us different, but how we can speak and behave in the context of fellowship. If we disagree, which will occur because we are blessed with different histories and gifts, the disagreement is not for the sake of division, but is heard against a backdrop already formed by the generations of our brothers and sisters... in Christ. There is a unity in the faith that always frames our opinions and allows us to respect and trust others. In other words, we are all one in Christ Jesus from the font to the last breath. Pastor Guy

ATTENTION ALL LADIES OF KIMBALL & THE COMMUNITY
ANNUAL PRAYER BREAKFAST AUGUST 6, 2016 --- 9 A.M.
This year’s Annual Ladies’ Prayer Breakfast will be held in the Commons Area at Kimball Memorial on Saturday, August 6th at 9 a.m. We encourage you to put this on your busy summer schedule. This is always a wonderful time to enjoy each other’s company and to host other Christian women of the community in fellowship and the Word. Please sign up by August 1 on sheets provided outside of the Narthex and Youth Room window area or phone the church office so we may prepare for your presence. Remember to extend invitations to neighbors, friends and family. Child care will be provided if there is a need noted. A buffet breakfast will be served by Kimball Women of the ELCA (WELCA), with donations going to WELCA Scholarship Fund and the Women In Need Fund.
Rebecca Hardin, retired Bible Teacher from Northwest Cabarrus High School will be this year’s speaker. Some of us will remember Mrs. Hardin spoke at our prayer breakfast 25 years ago. We can look forward to another wonderful message. Our theme this year is based on Isaiah 64:8 “And yet Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay and you are the potter. We are all formed by your hand.”
High School Middle School Youth Mission Trip
The HS/MS group will be traveling this summer to Poughkeepsie,
NY. We will be visiting our friends from St. John’s Lutheran Church that came down and served with us here at Kimball in 2012. We
will be ready for an adventure as we leave on June 25th and return on July 2nd. Please
keep us in your prayers as we prepare for this trip by praying for us now and while we are
gone. We look forward to posting pictures of our time there so you can join us on our trip!

Thank You to all who donated blood at Community Blood Center of the Carolinas blood drive on May 18th. We had 18 participants, 6 deferrals, and 11 usable pints collected. That’s below our goal, but we still saved 33 lives! Many of the folks who were deferred had hemoglobin below the required 12.5. Take a look at the list of foods that are high in iron and start eating some of these foods. Our next blood drive is Wednesday, July 13th. Thanks, again!!
Dear Friends of Hospice, Thank you so much for the snacks, laundry detergent, wash cloths, Kleenex, and wipes donated for our Hospice patients. These items will be of great use to the patients & families at our Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House. Thank you for supporting Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County. Sincerely, Pat Greene

David - the Mystic
When we think of a mystic we think of someone who has "mystical", trance-like experiences that we can't relate to. But Christian "mysticism" is really about being enveloped in God's presence; something so tangible that we can almost touch it. David said in Psalm 63: "I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory." Is that just metaphorical language or is it something more. Certainly he must have seen something with the "eyes" of his heart. Elsewhere in the Psalms it's quite clear he experienced the "manifest" presence of God in very tangible ways. In Psalm 63 it was remembering the closeness he felt to God that encouraged him to cling to God as he was fleeing from Absalom in the desert. "On
my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings." I love that imagery (Psalm 91) of being under the shadows of God's wing. Earlier he said, "Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you." He was saying - my life may be taken from me shortly, but it's ok because I have your love. He goes on to say..."with singing lips my mouth will praise you." May we all sing to the Lord not just in church but as we go about our day. "Sing unto the Lord a new song; sing unto the Lord, all the earth". -Don Simmons
