CLUB WELCOME

This afternoon we welcome players and officials of APIA Leichhardt Tigers.

As always we expect an entertaining and competitive encounter, played in good spirit.

Last week we saw a determined effort from our boys twice coming from behind to draw 2-2 with Wollongong Wolves.

Our boys are undefeated after 3 rounds and are hopeful of continuing the run today against the boys from APIA.

COME ON UNITED!

MATCH PREVIEW

Sydney United 58 is set to face off against rivals APIA Leichhardt Tigers on Sunday at Sydney United Sports Centre in a blockbuster match.

United 58 ended Wollongong Wolves winning streak last week with a 2-2 draw at home and are beginning to find their grove.

Miro Vlastelica’s side remain unbeaten with two draws and a win from the first three games to put them in striking distance of top spot.

The departures of Panny Nikas and Chris Payne has seemingly not been felt too heavily by The Reds with Patrick Antelmi one player to have taken on a more central role.

Antelmi will need to be at his best to challenge a battle tested APIA defence but he has the skill to turn a game at any moment.

Another player really finding his element with the Reds is young gun Tariq Maia. He along with Jordan Roberts were the unsung heroes in their side’s 2-2 draw against the Wolves last Sunday.

The Tigers come into the match on the back of a 2-1 win against Sutherland and proved that their 3-0 loss against Wollongong the previous week was a mere lapse.

Payne returns to take on his former club this week in what is sure to be an interesting subplot

The striker claimed a brace against the Sharks and will be out to get one against United 58.

Corey Biczo has been another player in fine form and his speed and trickery on the ball could provide headaches for the Sydney United 58 defence

Matches between these two sides are always full of excitement and this one is sure to be no different.

1ST GRADE REVIEWS

Sydney United 58 2 – Wollongong Wolves 2 at Sydney United Sports Centre

Sydney United 58 FC has put an end to Wollongong Wolves winning start to the season as they fought back to snatch a 2-2 draw in their National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash at Edensor Park on Sunday.

It was a determined performance from United 58 who twice fought back from a goal behind to deny the Wolves a third win on the trot.

Thomas James added to his incredible scoring run to break the deadlock after 38 minutes to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.

The game exploded into action in the second half as Jordan Roberts equalised for the home side 58 minutes in, before Nikola Djordjevic hit back for Wollongong moments later to return the South Coast side to the lead.

However, United 58 would have the last laugh with Tariq Maia finding the back of the net with only seven minutes left on the clock to secure a vital point for the Miro Vlastelica coached side.

Sutherland Sharks 1 – APIA Leichhardt Tigers 2 at Seymour Shaw

A brace from Chris Payne has powered APIA Leichhardt Tigers return to the winners circle as they edged Sutherland Sharks 2-1 in their National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash at Seymour Shaw on Saturday.

The win was a brilliant response from APIA who suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss last week with today’s three points moving the John Calleja coached side back into the top six.

However, it was Sutherland who started the better of the two sides when Jeremy Cox gave the home side the lead with a nifty finish after only 12 minutes.

Payne levelled the scores midway through the opening stanza with a clinical dispatch from the penalty spot to send the game into the interval locked at 1-1.

The veteran striker was at it again after the break to wrap up the win with a thunderous strike into the back of the net as APIA clung on for a hard earned victory on the road.

U20’S MATCH PREVIEW

Sydney United sit rock bottom of the competition at the end of March, having lost all three of their matches this year to date.

The most recent of defeat came at home to Wollongong Wolves, who managed to grind out a 2-1 win at Sydney United Sports Centre.

This week’s opponents, APIA Leichhardt Tigers, arguably give Sydney United their best chance so far

to open their account in 2019.

APIA have played only one game coming into Round 4, with the squad travelling during the first two weeks of the season.

They were held to a scoreless draw against Sutherland Sharks last weekend, and could be vulnerable as they look to get a foothold in the new competition.
