Young Voices

Young Voices is the biggest school choir event in the World! A collection of year 5’s and 6’s had the privilege of taking part this year, and had the most incredible experience. Classes Jay and Hummingbird Owl Visit

On Friday 24th February classes Jay and Hummingbird had five owls visit us. We met: Mr. Forbes the Tawny Owl, JC the Peruvian Striped Owl, Fudge the Barn Owl, Nanock the Alaska Great Horned Owl and Big Alice the Eagle Owl. We were told lots of interesting facts about the owls as well as being able to ask our own questions. The Barn Owl Fudge flew around the hall swooping over our heads! After Play we went back into the hall and had a chance to draw two of the owls.

“I liked drawing the owls.” – Toby “Fudge was my favourite.” – Iris “I liked seeing the Owl fly.” – Arabella

“One of the Owls was naughty, it was funny.” – Josh

We were very lucky to have a photograph taken with the owls and Miss Bridge and Mrs Thirkettle were allowed to hold the owls. We thought Mrs Thirkettle was very brave holding Big Alice! Class Jay

Year 4 Superstars

On Tuesday 7th February 2017 the Year 4s of Danbury Park went to Superstars in Chelmsford Sports and Athletics Stadium. There were eight groups and at least five children per group. Each school had one minute to read their pledge at the start of the event. There were eight activities to do. Some of the activities were:

Cup stacking is where you had to stack

the cups run to the spot and unstack

them.

The next activity was hockey, you had

push a ball with a hockey stick in to cones.

Ball throwing, in this activity you had to

throw a ball on to a wall without letting it

bounce if you caught it you had to move it

back a spot.

A relay where you pick up a ring and drop

it onto a spot and there were many more

activities.

Danbury Park School came third and it was well worth the wait which was three hours. New Hall came first, and Saint Michael’s came second. After that we went back to the coach. It was a fantastic afternoon. By Maddie D and Harry A, Class D

The children were also each given a small draw string PE bag which they should have brought home this week.

Well done!

Book Week

The year’s Book Week has been a resounding success with children and adults taking every opportunity to share and read books! Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who joined us for a shared reading session on Wednesday morning. A particular highlight was watching some Year 6 boys captivated by a Mister Man book read by our grandfathers. All around the school there were groups enjoying hearing a story read aloud.

The wonderful Gangsta Grannies in the Catering Team joined in all the fun on World Book Day on Thursday by providing an exciting and nutritious meal for the children. We all enjoyed Rat Burger (no rats were harmed in the making of) and Demon Dentist Chocolate Cake. Everyone had a wonderful time with many members of staff joining in the fun by sitting with the children enjoying their meal. Thank you to our fantastic hard working Catering Team who served 241 meals on the day. Thank you also the School Council for organising and running the cake sale in aid of Class Dove and the ICT Suite renovation project. Grand total to be announced next week

On Friday morning it was the turn of the adults in school to choose their favourite book to read and the children selected which one they wanted to join. The reading of extracts from The Hobbit resulted in much laughter (the episode with the trolls) as well as reflection (Bilbo finding the ring).

More photos and reports from the children will be appearing over the coming weeks so watch this space!

DPSA news

Please donate Easter Eggs We run a very popular Easter Egg tombola at the Easter Fayre and are asking for your kind donations of Eggs. If everyone donated just one egg we’d have loads. (Tesco has buy 2 get 2 free!). Please leave by the office. We are also trying to organise an Easter Hamper raffle. There will be a list by the office if you are kindly able to donate any items on the list. As always your donations are very much appreciated and without them we couldn’t run these popular stalls which raise lots!

Can you face paint? The younger children love face painting and we have always been able to offer this at our events. Each year as children move up the school we need to find more. We provide books, paints, brushes etc and you don’t need to be a professional!!

Helpers – please, for Easter Egg Hunt We need lots of helpers to man stalls. We will as always run a rota (2-3, 3-4) so everyone gets time to enjoy the event with their children. Please let your class rep or Sally Pain ([email protected]) know if you can help on the day or set up in the morning.

New in Car Child Seat Law from 1st March 2017 On the 1st March 2017 the new laws concerning car child seats will be in force. With this in mind the Safer Essex Roads Partnership is holding a big road safety awareness day in Chelmsford on 8th March 2017. As part of this we are able to offer free child seat checking by the Good Egg Guide at Asda car park in Chelmer Village Centre Chelmsford, CM2 6RE. Parents can turn up anytime between 11am and 4pm to have their child seats checked and get advice about the new laws free of charge. Statistics show that 75% of child car seats are fitted incorrectly, so we would like to offer this free service to the community of Chelmsford on this day Childhood Illnesses Workshop - Parents across Chelmsford are invited to a free NHS workshops aimed at providing information and advice about common childhood illnesses. The workshops, run by local GPs and community pharmacists aim to help parents feel confident when dealing with common illnesses by talking through scenarios providing practical advice on what to do and when. Your local workshop will be held at: Marconi Social Club, Chelmsford, on Monday 6 March (7:00pm to 8:30pm) Chelmsford West Children’s Centre, on Tuesday 7 March (10:00am to 12:00pm) To book your free place visit http://midessexccg.nhs.uk/your-health-services/your-health/childhood-illnesses and click on the booking link of the preferred date.
