CKV Dress Code Policy Reminder

Spring is here and summer is near! It’s time to put your hats, mittens, scarves and boots away for the season! The following are some important things to remember about CKV’s dress code policy as you shift from your winter attire and into the warmer weather.

Flip-flops, slippers and casual sandals are not acceptable footwear at any time for any Team Member. These guidelines for footwear apply to holiday, theme and casual days, as well.

Full-length pants, ankle length pants crop/capris pants are acceptable as long as the length of the pants is below the

knee. Jeans are acceptable only on casual days. Jeans should be in good condition with no frays or holes. Inappropriate slacks or pants may include sweatpants, exercise pants, shorts, bib overalls, leggings, and any spandex or other form-fitting pants..

Dress, jumper, and skirt length should be no shorter than 1 inch above the knee or longer. Slit skirts must be

appropriate and in keeping with our standards of modesty. Mini-skirts, sun dresses, beach dresses, and spaghetti-strap dresses are inappropriate at all times.

If you have any questions, please contact your direct supervisor or Human Resources at extension 5414.

K Dear CKV Nursing Team: At Cross Keys Village we are committed to our Mission, the quality of care we provide our residents, and being good stewards of our resources, time and the talent of our team members. Keeping this in mind, we continually look at ways to enhance the exceptional service we currently provide our residents, while looking at ways in supporting our team members’ to show compassion, share a positive attitude, be respectful and work together. Over the past year, we reduced our resident census in health care to more closely align to the current staffing levels, while continuing to keep our PPD at a level higher then industry average. This was purposely done to ensure our team members are able to provide the high quality of care and service that CKV has been proud of for many years. However, this decision comes with some financial impact. Since sustainability is critical in today’s turbulent health care environment, one step we can take with the current census that would maintain both quality of care and effective staffing levels is to transition a few South Mountain B hall residents to open rooms on other halls or other neighborhoods. This allows us to be better stewards of our resources while also providing the compassionate care that our residents deserve. Consolidating open rooms in one place on B hall and congregating a few residents in rooms closer together will help our team members in providing care and services. In the days ahead, we will be communicating these plans to our residents and their families. Then, we will begin the transition process. As a team, we wanted you to be aware of what is happening and why it is happening. Your commitment to our residents and their care is what makes Cross Keys Village a desirable and welcoming place for residents and their families. We know that during times of change, you ease the stress of transition. Thank you for your many contributions and your ongoing work – together we make Cross Keys Village a vibrant and joyful community. As always, if you should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your manager or to me. Thank you again for your commitment to our community! Sincerely, Ann Starr-Loe Health Care Administrator

New Recruiter On-board

As many of you know, we at Cross Keys Village are not alone in facing a challenging employment market. Although recruiting can be a challenge even during the best of times, it requires much more attention, creativity and focus when the demand for talent is higher. With an organization of our size, employing approximately 700 team members, it has become inevitable for many reasons to add a Recruiter to our team. Please help me in welcoming Lynneah Smith, in her new Recruiter position effective April 24, 2017. Lynneah is a 2015 graduate of Millersville University and holds a BS in Speech

Communication. She is also currently obtaining her Masters Degree in Human Resource Development from McDaniel College. Prior to joining CKV, Lynneah previously worked at CKV during high school and college in Campus Dining and most recently as an Account Executive at Manpower in Hanover. Lynneah’s focus and responsibility is on recruiting, screening and placement of potential new team members for the entire CKV campus. She will be working closely with all hiring managers and Scheduling Coordinators in both Health Care and Personal Care to identify our staffing needs. In her spare time Lynneah is a Volleyball Coach for the Sacred Heart League and enjoys oil painting. Sincerely,

Kelley Mitchell Vice President of Human Resources

Karen Brandt, Restorative Nursing | Values: Show Compassion, Celebrate Life Nominated by CKV Team Member, Jen Sabaka, for her consistent donation of time (sometimes up to two hours a week) to assist residents who like to knit and/or crochet. Karen also volunteers on South Mountain teaching residents who may want to re-learn or brush-up on their knitting/crocheting skills.

Stephen DeRiggs, Campus Security | Values: Be Innovative, Work Together, and Celebrate Life Residential Living Administrator, George Turner, nominated Steve for his animated and engaging performance during a Village Chimers and Village Brass concert in April. Steve volunteered his time for both the dress rehearsal and live performance. Jay Rohrbach, Administration | Values: Show Compassion, Act Responsibly While traveling with his two children, Jay spotted a female resident at the edge of a very busy road at another care facility. Jay turned his vehicle around, approached the woman, and quickly determined she was in need of help. He alerted the staff immediately and stayed with the resident, keeping her calm, until she was returned safely back into the building.

Years of Service

It is important to us to recognize team members who achieve years of service milestones. We have begun the process of recognizing team members who achieve 5, 10, 15 or more years of service during their anniversary month, providing a years of service pin, monetary gift depending on years of service and a recognition letter presented by Human Resources and the Team Member’s Manager. The following Team Members listed are those recognized for years of service with Cross Keys Village in May 2017. Thank you for your dedication to service here at Cross Keys Village!

Blessing of the Hands

Again this year, Pastoral Care chaplains will be offering a blessing of the hands to our team members and volunteers on the Health Care and Personal Care Mission Point neighborhoods and at Brookside. Look for a chaplain on May 25, 26, and 27, at the times designated below, coming through the neighborhood and asking for a moment of your time to bless your hands and to pray for you. This year we will be using anointing oil in place of water and towel for speed and efficiency.

Let us bless your hands and you for the compassionate and loving work that you do every day for our residents!

Parking Assignments

A question has been raised as to why some leaders are permitted to park in the main parking lot of Mission Point (Cumberland Square lot). Due to our large campus and the need to quickly access all areas of campus throughout the work day, parking assignment for a few specific leaders who travel across campus frequently includes the back row of the Cumberland Square parking lot.

K Swim Lessons

Private swim lessons are back! Session times (listed in chart below) will start the week of Monday, May 15th and continue through the summer months until Friday, August 11th. Lessons are open to the following and their immediate family; Team Members, CKV Residents, and Public Wellness Members. 10 lessons is $155 and 5 lessons is $85. There are no age requirements, but we do ask that participants are potty-trained. All lessons will be taught using the New Oxford Learn-to-Swim program taught by a trained instructor.

To sign up, please email [email protected] or call the Wellness Office at extension 5410.

Come check out their home away from home on Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Union Square. This unique trailer that the Sipes have built, converts from a fishing boat-carrying cargo trailer into a full featured camper. You are welcome to drop by, say Hi, and take a peek.

Weight Watchers Update Weight Watchers will be taking a break here on campus during the spring and summer months. In the past few years during the warmer months, memberships have decreased. We are happy to know people are taking advantage of the nice weather and getting outside! We hope to bring it back in the fall when numbers increase. If you need any further information, please see Ashley in wellness or call extension 5410.

Spring 5K: Thank You!

Wellness would like to thank everyone for their support of this year’s Spring 5K held on campus Saturday, May 6. Even though we had some cloudy skies we had about 40 participants in the event. We were able to contribute $147.00 to the Good Samaritan Fund. Wellness looks forward to continuing to grow this event in years to come!
