Keyed Retrospective Conversion:

Yes, MARCIVE Still Does This

Carol Love

Why Would You Need Keyed Retro?

• First time automation

• Portion of collection or a special collection not in current OPAC

• Branch library or schools in district not yet converted

• Legacy system has no way to export records for migration, but can print out database

What Do You Provide MARCIVE?

• Shelflist cards

• Photocopied title and verso pages of books

• Computer printout

How Does MARCIVE Convert My Collection?

• MARCIVE staff searches each card or title against our databases, adding matched records to a new file

• Local information (e.g., call number, location, copy/volume) is added to records

• Titles are searched—and searched again to verify accuracy

• Non-matches are transcribed to MARC format and added to file

• Your new file of MARC records is passed through authorities processing
