Millennium Park is accesible via the CTA #3, #4, #151 and #157 buses.

Millennium Park

With its seemingly endless array of concerts, exhibits and crowds, many people see summer as

the time of year to experience the many joys and pleasures of MILLENNIUM PARK. But this

urban gem really is a year-round place of discovery, and fall is one of its most enticing seasons.

The LURIE GARDEN, for example, may not be bursting forth with the same vibrant colors of the

summer months, but the muted hues of autumn hold their own subtle charms. Meanwhile, the

hordes of picture-takers around the popular CLOUD GATE sculpture (affectionately known as

“The Bean”) may be smaller, but the stunning reflections of sky and skyscrapers are just as

amazing. Likewise, the giant heads that comprise artist Jaume Plensa’s 1,004 PORTRAITS

exhibit are just as imposing as ever. After all, there’s still plenty to discover in the park!

The leaves are changing and there’s a distinct chill in the air. While some may bemoan the lost

A sweatshirt or light jacket is generally enough to hold off the chill of a Chicago autumn, but

warming oneself from the inside is certainly recommended as well – and the city’s hot restau-

rant scene offers a number of great ways to do just that. A big barbecue meal is one way to get

your internal furnace going, and the massive pork chops and meaty slabs of ribs - not to men-

tion a free appetizer with the ad on page 40 - are sure to get the job done at CARSON’S (612

German food, beer and music than usual. Meanwhile, outstanding seafood is always in season

Meet the Artist

Still undecided about what to do This Week In Chicago? Here’s one of our favorites:

Finding a great work of art that really speaks to the observer is a rare enough occurrence; getting

the chance to meet the artist behind the work is rarer still. But on Friday, October 17, fans of the

linear expressionist work of Jean-Claude Gaugy will have a chance to shake the hand of the

man behind the many impressive carved wood paintings lining the walls at Atlas Galleries.

In many ways, the pairing of Gaugy and Atlas is a perfect fit. The artist, discovered as a teen by

Salvador Dali, has been producing his lyrical and bold paintings for more than 40 years. Atlas,

meanwhile, has been exposing Chicagoans and visitors alike to the amazing work of artists like

Gaugy and others for nearly 47 years.

The Jean-Claude Gaugy meet-and-greet reception will take place from 6pm to 8pm at the Atlas

Galleries location at 900 N. Michigan, level 6. For more information, call 312.649.0999.
