Sure, the plucky dance team is inplace. The big chance is out there.The show-stopping numbers are all lined up. But just one thing is different – all of the dancers are over60. Yes, this is the story (true, by theway) of ten determined senior citi-zens who audition to dance (hip-hop,no less) at a professional basketballgame. With the director of the smashhits Kinky Boots and On Your Feet atthe helm and a cast packed with sea-soned veterans of Broadway, moviesand TV, this one looks like a winner.

It goes something like this: as familiesagain gather to feast on classic Germandishes such as weiner schnitzel and sauerbraten, or to take advantage of theBerghoff’s special holiday prix fixe menu,the kids (12 and under) take to therestaurant’s Christmas tree, combingthrough the thicket in search of the elusive gherkin. Those lucky enough tofind a pickle ornament hidden in thepine (no real pickles are harmed in thisquest) are rewarded with a free mug of signature Berghoff root beer and aholiday memory that’s unlikely to be replicated anywhere else in town. It’s a Merry Christmas – or Frohliche Weihnachten, to be more precise – German, by way of Chicago.
