VOLUNTEERS – THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Our program is successful due to the dedicated teachers and staff who put tireless hours into the success of our students. Our students learn many aspects of theatre, technical theatre, and dance as they progress through the program and ultimately, they are responsible for the final show production. However, parent volunteers are always needed and welcomed to help with shows and other activities that support our students as they put these major productions together. How can I help…

1) Volunteer for shows – we need ushers, people to work in the box office, concessions, and ticket takers.

2) We are often needed to help with food and snacks to keep our kids going, particularly during tech weeks.

3) Poster Slams – our students will need to get out and promote the shows. A couple of weeks prior to a show, we will ask for volunteers to drive the students to various businesses in the area where students will put up posters that support our upcoming show.

4) Volunteer for Concessions – we have opportunities to raise additional monies at activities such as dance competitions that are hosted in the Performing Arts Center. These have proven to add a good source of additional revenue to the booster club coffers.

5) Ad Sales – this might be one of the most important activities for the year! Thank you so much for your hard work on securing new supporters for our program and of course renewing ads from our continued supporters.

6) Drop off a case of water, chips, or healthy snacks….our kids can always use a snack to keep them going on the long days and evenings that they are preparing for

shows. If you send something in, tell the kids to put it in Pauls House…they will know what to do!

Happy Holidays from your WCSPA Booster Family!

As we approach this holiday season, the WCSPA Booster Club Board would like to take a moment to thank all of you for your continued support of this amazing program! We have much to celebrate. Thank you to the teachers who are dedicated to helping all our students grow in unimaginable ways. Thank you to the teams that work tirelessly behind the scenes to bring our productions to life. Whether it is working in our shops, with our music, our dance, our costumes, lighting, staging, and all of the other elements that make our program a success; your efforts do not go unnoticed! Thank you to our school board who continually supports this program. Thank you to our advertisers and patrons who are supporting the Arts in schools. Thank you to our young men and women in this program who provide outstanding entertainment and a true dedication to their craft. And most of all, thank you to each of you for your continued support of the WCSPA program. Happy Holidays to all of you, from all of us!

Did you know…We have created a booster club email address? To contact us, send an email to [email protected]

COMMON TERMS YOU MIGHT HEAR YOUR STUDENT SAY….Little Theatre (or Blackbox) – Yes, this is a classroom and a number of performances will take place in this room throughout the year! Fully functional with lighting and sound and a stage for performances. Get cozy and share in this intimate setting for events such as Shakespeare night, Senior Showcase, and this year, our Fall 1-Act Plays!

Costume Shop – Costume shop is an incredible component to our productions. Many costumes are designed specifically for individual shows. Students will sew the costumes and put together the wardrobe out of our inventory of costumes and other ancillary items.

PAC – Performing Arts Center – this is our state of the art mainstage theatre and shop that houses more than 700 seats for performances. With professional theatre lighting and sound equipment, our students learn using state of the art technical equipment.

Poster Slam – Happens about two to three weeks befor each show. Students go out to sponsors and hang posters of the upcoming shows to market the event in the community. We hope you will join in as a driver and take pictures and post to our facebook page.

Shop Call – Shop calls happen throughout the year and times vary depending on the time of the year. Our students are responsible for creating the sets, staging, and costumes, etc. Therefore, they will be here (supervised) working to bring our productions together. Shop may refer to the costume shop and also where we build our sets. You will also find students working in the dance studios or main and little theatre preparing for a production working with sound and lighting.

Dress Rehearsal – Dress rehearsal is usually just prior to a shows opening night (day before). All students, performers, tech crew, etc. are present to run through the show in full costumes with all props. This is imperative to work out last minute production details.

Tech Call – For the behind the scenes teams who are putting together our lighting and sound and other technical aspects for a show. These are our technical teams who without them, the production would not have that little bit of magic that makes the show special.

Call Time- Be there, or be square. Call times are what time our performers and crew need to be at the PAC for an event or show.

Senior Showcase – Senior Showcase is the culmination of our graduating students experience throughout their tenure in the program. While there are many tears, it truly is a celebration of accomplishment. Stick around for refreshments and pictures with your star, their peers, and your WCSPA family after the show.

Festival – Refers to the students attending and performing at the annual Michigan Thespian Festival held in December. This is a great opportunity for our students to present for scholarship opportunities and learn additional theatre arts skills.

Banquet – Held at the end of the year as a celebration of the students accomplishments and completing another level of the program. We also find out what shows will be planned for the following season!

Tech Week – Supports the current production and typically will run the week prior to show dates. The students may be at the PAC until 10:00 p.m. (Each production will have a different schedule to meet the production deadline). Some weekend days may be included for both tech and for rehearsal. Don’t worry, we make sure the kids are fed and have time for homework as well!

Pauls House – Pauls House offers students an opportunity to grab a quick snack for a nominal charge. We often ask parents to donate items to Pauls House to keep our kids going throughout the year. Monies collected are also spent to help with replenishing the goodies!

Troupe 1000 – That’s us! Students are inducted into the Michigan Education Thespian Association (META) as they complete their Level 1 coursework. This takes place at our annual banquet. META sponsored the trip to NYC last July!

Show Mode / Class Mode – Show mode is different than the class mode – where groups are split into classes with different teachers. Show mode puts students into groups based on the projects they are working on – sometimes, they will be rehearsing, dancing, in a shop or assigned to the part of the show that brings the production together.

We are very excited to see the upgrades to our Performing Arts Center – Updates include new sound equipment, the latest in stage and theatre lightingand many other enhancements to

create a state of the art production house! Watch for an announcement of our redidication after the new year!
