Every Tuesday through February, there are classes in the Admiral Benbow pub in Penzance with Golden Tree.
“Keskows Diwotti” (Pub Chat) starts each week at 7.00 and “Kana Diwotti” (Pub Singing) at 8.00. It’s perfect for beginners to learn a bit of Cornish or for Cornish speakers who want to have some fun in Cornish. The songs will be
performed in the streets and pubs of Penzance on Saturday 24th February. That day there will also be the school childrens’ treasure hunt and other Cornish events across the town.

A new year and a new location for Kan Rag Kernow. The event was held at the Hotel Lowenac in Camborne for the first time and the move was a success with an excellent atmosphere on the evening.
Four groups took part in the competition – unfortunately a fifth could not make it – the Aggie Boys’ Choir.
The quality of the entries was high, all of them with strong songs and original and diverse performances, from a personal tale from Tir ha Tavas, to a song conjuring up the atmosphere of a voyage on the sea, to a song in the voice of Miss Havisham from Dickens’ Great Expectations.
But the winners of the night were The Rowan Tree with their song Tresor (Treasure). It was very lively and memorable, and the perfect song to represent Kernow. Good luck to The Rowan Tree in Ireland in April – our fingers are crossed!

The fifth edition of Pellwolok an Gernewegva is now online and has already been watched over 2,000 times.
Matthi Clarke has worked hard to keep the radio programme going weekly as well as this new video
magazine programme. This month’s edition includes the Kan Rag Kernow competition and news about the harbour wall in Portreath.
The programme is aimed at Cornish speakers, but is also excellent if you don’t know Cornish but would like to hear it being spoken.

Cornish Dictionary
AKADEMIKERNEWEK
An updated PDF word list is now available on the Akademi Kernewek website. This word list is an interim update of the MAGA online dictionary to show the spelling changes agreed as part of the 2014 Review.
The online dictionary itself will be replaced in the spring, with a new look and features.
A key project for 2018 will be the introduction of new dictionary software. The Cornish Language Office and Akademi Kernewek have appointed Bangor University to provide the new system, called MaesT. This will make work easier for the Akademi’s Dictionary Panel, as it is networked so that more than one person can work on the dictionary, it includes systems for the Akademi to record and approve changes, and changes are reversible (so a change in the Cornish entry also appears in the English side).
Most importantly, we will be able to publish updates of the dictionary much more quickly. The work with Bangor University will also mean that we can link all the work of the Akademi on new terms and place names making it easier for speakers to access a wider range of Cornish words.
