On behalf of the Kentucky Chess Association I would like to welcome you to the 2011 Kentucky State Championship Series. The 2011 Blue Book contains some revisions from the previous editions; please take a few moments to become familiar with the contents. Over 620 players representing schools from all across the state competed in the 2010 Championship Series held in Louisville and Bowling Green. The recognition of seniors, the champion awards – those are moments which will live in the memories of the players, the coaches, and the parents for the rest of their lives.

All of the tournaments in this series are sponsored by the Kentucky Chess Association and are played under the rules of the United States Chess Federation and the KCA. The titles of Individual State Scholastic Champion are awarded in five categories: Novice (for players in grades K-1), Primary (for players in grades K-3), Elementary (K-5), Middle School (K-8), and High School (K-12). The titles of Team State Scholastic Champion are awarded in five categories as well: Novice (K-1) Primary (K-3), Elementary (K-5), Middle School (K-8), and High School (K-12). Players may compete in any one division they choose which is equal to or higher than their current school grade (but they cannot play in any division lower than their grade). Thus a 5th grader may compete in the Elementary, Middle School, or High School sections but not in the Primary section.

Play for the title of State Individual Scholastic Champion is conducted at one statewide tournament which is open to any scholastic player residing in Kentucky. Play for the title of State Team Scholastic Champion at the High School, Middle School, Elementary and Primary levels is conducted at a separate statewide tournament which is open ONLY to those teams who qualify through their performance at their regional quad qualifying tournaments. The top 4 teams at each level will advance into the finals for the championship title giving us the “Sweet Sixteen” of chess.

In response to requests from parents and coaches, for the last several years we have recognized a Novice (K-1) team champion. This champion is crowned at the State Individual Tournament and we will be doing it again this year. Please pay close attention to the tournament conditions for the Novice section for the individual tournament so that you understand how these events will be conducted. The other team championships remain four board events. This year we are priveledged to hold the Team Championship at the U of L Student Activity Center thanks to the help of the Cardinal Chess Club. We will have plenty of space so we are expanding the tournament into the Ky Chess Festival. We have been able to addan opportunity for those who play in the Quad but do not qualify for the state finals to have a chance to play. We are also able to add adult sections for the first time. The QUAD System

Kentucky has been divided into four quadrants or QUADS to facilitate a play-off system leading to the awarding of state championship titles in chess. Based on the same geographic regions used in Kentucky interscholastic athletics, except for Madison, Meade Montgomery, Russell, Rockcastle and Scott county schools, the regions are as follows:

State Individual and Team Championship Rules of Competition

AUTHORITY. The Kentucky State Scholastic Coordinator is the chief organizer for all state championship events. The scholastic coordinator shall appoint all tournament directors, assistant tournament directors and volunteer staff and shall appoint prior to the beginning of each state championship event a Tournament Appeals Committee.

ADMITTANCE. No parents, coaches, or observers are permitted in the Tournament playing area once a round has started. Play-offs for team championships, if they are required, will be open to observers. The Kentucky State Scholastic Coordinator has the authority to open the playing area to spectators if he deems it appropriate, but he can also close it for any reason or at any time.

ASSISTANCE. While the game is in progress, players are forbidden to talk with anyone else except with the permission of and in the presence of a TD. A player must raise his/her hand if there is a need for assistance. A TD will then come to the board and assist as necessary. Interference in any game, in any way, by another player, a coach, a parent, or a spectator will not be tolerated and could result in forfeiture of the game and disqualification from the event. The ringing, or the checking, of a cell phone, pager, or other messaging device in the tournament room will be presumed to be interference. The tournament director may chose to ban the use of any device with earphones from the playing area. (A special caution is issued regarding the dropping of a clock flag when time has expired. No sign, signal, whisper, gasp, or motion of any kind will be tolerated from a coach, parent, or spectator. Only a player involved in a game may make any claim regarding the expiration of time.)

APPEALS. If a player has a question about any ruling by a tournament director, she/he may appeal through that director in accordance with USCF rules. Once all appeals at the tournament level are exhausted, the player may appeal to the next higher local authority for the tournament. The highest local authority in a Quad tournament is the Quad Scholastic Coordinator or State Scholastic Coordinator if present. The highest local authority in the State tournaments is the State Scholastic Coordinator. Appeals beyond the local authority go to the Kentucky Chess Association’s Board of Directors. The highest level of appeal, after all lower levels are exhausted, is the United States Chess Federation Scholastic Director. Only a player or his/her coach may initiate an appeal. Parents have no standing to make an appeal.

BYES. Byes are unfortunate in a state championship event, but they are sometimes necessary. In any round, if the number of players in a tournament is uneven, one player may be given a full-point bye. Only one bye per tournament may be awarded to a player, and it is given to the player in the lowest score group who has the lowest USCF rating and is so marked on all wall charts. Half-point byes for missed rounds may not be

awarded in state championship play. If it is at all possible, a TD on the floor is empowered to revoke a bye and re-pair the player with a game within their division.

RECORDING. Each player is strongly encouraged to record games. A player who does not record games will not have sufficient evidence to support the claim of a draw by repetition of position or by the 50 move rule. In accordance with USCF national scholastic rules, recording is mandatory for all players grade 4 and up in each event.

REPORTING. Immediately upon completion of each game, both players must stop at the scorer’s table and report the result of the game. In 4-board team events, the team captain is responsible for ensuring that game results are recorded on the results sheet provided and reporting these results to the scorers table. It is strongly suggested that players report their score BEFORE they pack up their sets in event of questions.

SCHOOL. Teams are comprised of students who attend the same school. For the purposes of team play the Kentucky chess association follows the USCF definition of a school as follows:

A school is defined as an institution which has one name, is located in one building or connected adjacent buildings, and is under one administrator and which provides core curricular instruction in English, math, science, and social studies. A student will be considered to attend a school if and only if he or she physically attends classes at that school building and receives more than 50% of his or her core curricular instruction during those classes.

Home schooled students are eligible to participate on teams. A home schooled student is defined as a student who receives at least 50% of his or her core curricular instruction at home. Under USCF rules, home school students have the following options with regard to forming and/or participating on a scholastic team. 1. A home schooled student may represent his or her local public school when access to extracurricular activities is permitted and the student resides within the boundaries of the local public school as defined by Kentucky law. Presently Kentucky law does NOT allow home schooled students to participate in public school extracurricular activities. 2. A home school student may join with other home schooled students who reside within the boundary of the local public school as defined by Kentucky law. There may be more than one home school team per recognized public school district.

SUBSTITUTING. Once an alternate is substituted into team tournament play she/he must finish the tournament. There are no substitutions in and out. The player substituted for will be entered into the Alternates Section unless otherwise instructed by the player or the player’s coach. Substitutions must to written and submitted on the provided line-up form no later than the end of the previous round. The tournament director reserves the right to allow emergency substitutions in the event of illness.

TIME FORFEITS. Analog clocks should be set so that the time limit will expire at 6:00. Digital clocks shall be set for the number of minutes in the round. If a time delay feature is used, the time delay shall be set for 5 seconds. Only a player or a player’s opponent may initiate a time forfeiture claim. No score sheet is required to make this claim. A player may claim time forfeiture only if he/she first stops the clock before her/his own flag falls.

TOUCH MOVE. If a player deliberately touches a piece when it is his/her turn to move, the touched piece must be moved if it is legal to do so. If a player deliberately touches an opponent’s piece, that piece must be captured if it is legal to do so. Questions about touch move violations should be referred to a floor TD.

USCF STATUS. Participants in all Quad Tournaments and the State Championship Series MUST be current members of the United States Chess Federation. There will be no exceptions to this policy. If a player’s membership status is in doubt and cannot be documented by the player, a new/renewal membership must be purchased at the site (in the event that player purchases 2 memberships, the USCF will credit that player for 2 years of membership). Memberships will be sold at the Quads and the State Championship Series events for an additional fee.

USCF CHESS RULES. The Official Rules of Chess, as compiled, modified, and sanctioned by the United States Chess Federation, shall govern all tournaments in the Quads or Championship Series, except as amended or stated otherwise in this guidebook.

SWISS SYSTEM. The Swiss System can accommodate a large number of players in a relatively short time. Basic Swiss System pairing rules are:

a player may not be paired against the same opponent more than once in a tournament

players with equal scores are paired whenever possible players receive alternate and equal colors whenever possible no player should be scheduled to play the same color in 3 consecutive rounds everyone plays all scheduled rounds (there is no elimination in a Swiss)

The State Individual Championship is a Swiss System Tournament. Players can and will likely be paired against opponents from their same school. See comment on K-1 event.

TEAM MODIFIED SWISS. The tournament is played as a normal Swiss System tournament with pairings made on an individual basis according to the rules above, except that teammates are treated as if they have already played each other and thus will never be paired to play against each other. The team score is determined by adding the points accumulated by the top four scoring players on a team. A minimum of two players is required to qualify for team awards. (Note: a team must have a minimum of three players to compete for the title of State Champions.) There is no limit on the number of players a school may enter on its team, although the TD may require adjustments if the number exceeds 25% of the total tournament field and/or adversely affects pairing decisions.

Regional (Quad) playoffs are played as Team Modified Swiss Events.

The K-1 individual state championship will include a team state championship. The K-1 event will be paired using the team modified Swiss system, however if any one team has more than 50% of the players in a top score group in the last two rounds of the tournament, teammate and/or siblings may be paired to increase the likelihood of a clear individual winner. The primary purpose of the K-1 individual state championship remains the awarding of a clear individual winner – the team event is secondary.

4 BOARD TEAM EVENTS. Players on each 4 person team are ranked from highest rating to lowest rating and assigned to board positions 1 through 4 (or 6 with the alternates), high to low. Players must play the same board order throughout the tournament; failure to do so will result in forfeiture of that round. If a team plays with only 3 members, they must forfeit board 4 and close to board 1. For the purpose of pairing, team ranking will be calculated based upon the average ratings of the top 4 players entered in the event. Unrated players must be placed on the lowest boards, for example, one unrated player would have to play board four, two unrated players would have to play boards four and three, three unrated players would have to play boards four, three and two. Unrated players will be assigned a rating based on the following: an unrated on board two is assigned 50 points below the rating of board one. An unrated on board three is assigned 50 points below the rating of board two. An unrated on board four is assigned 50 points below the rating of board three. In no case will an unrated player be assigned a rating less than 100. In addition, a team with all four boards unrated will be assigned a rating of 500 .

Teams will then be paired like individuals in a Swiss System tournament. Rules governing color assignment will determine the colors assigned on boards 1 and 3. If, for example, board 1 for Century Elementary is assigned white, boards 1 and 3 will play white while boards 2 and 4 will play black. Scoring is based on MATCH POINTS, with a team receiving 1 point if they win the round (2.5 points or higher on the combined individual boards), 0 points if they lose the round (1.5 points or less) and each team receiving .5 point in the event of a tie (2 points each) for that round.

RULES FOR BOARD ORDER IN 4-BOARD PLAY. In the 4-board Team Championship Tournament, all players will be placed on the team roster in order of rating published on the most recent ratings supplement. The tournament director reserves the right to order the players and pair the tournament based on the ratings published on the US Chess Federation MSA Ratings page http://www.uschess.org/msa/MbrLst.php possible within time constraints and applied equally across all teams. This team roster establishes the board order for the entire tournament and may not be altered (including any game 5 playoff which may be needed to determine the champion). The Scholastic Coordinator or his/her delegate is the final authority for questions on this rule.

The term “alternate” is sometimes confusing within the context of this rule. Please remember that an alternate is not an additional player who can be substituted into any position as in many other sports. When a player is designated as an alternate and is

then substituted into the team, that player will take their appropriate board position and all players will close to board 1. If not absolutely clear on this, the coach should consult with the Chief TD. Starting the round with an incorrect board order may result in a forfeiture of the round and the loss of the match point.

TIE SCORES. In the State Individual Championship, tie scores for first place only will result in the awarding of multiple Co-Champion trophies sized according to the tie breaks listed in the next paragraph. All players who score in the top scoring group will be considered CO-CHAMPIONS for that particular division. It is perfectly acceptable for a Co-Champion to be so designated on the trophy. In the State Team Championship, ties for first place in the Primary, Elementary, Middle School, and High School divisions will be broken by a playoff (see the RULES FOR TEAM PLAYOFFS below).

TIE BREAKS INDIVIDUAL. Ties for positions other than the State Champion will use the following tie-break system:

1. Modified Median The sum of opponents' scores discarding some high or low scores:

o for players with "plus" scores (more wins than losses) -- the lowest scoring opponent is discarded

o for players with "even" scores -- the highest and the lowest scoring opponents are discarded

o for players with "minus" scores -- the highest scoring opponent is discarded

o These scores are adjusted for unplayed games (byes, forfeits, unplayed games), which count a half point each.

2. Solkoff The sum of all opponents' final scores.

3. Cumulative The sum of the player’s cumulative (running) scores for all of the rounds. One

point is subtracted from the sum for each unplayed win or one-point bye. For example, if a player's results over a five-round event were win, loss, win, draw, loss, the wall chart would show a cumulative score round by round as 1, 1, 2, 2 1/2, 2 1/2. Adding across, the cumulative tie-break total is 9.

4. Opponents Cumulative The cumulative tie-break points for each opponent are calculated and then

added together.

TIE BREAKS TEAM. Tie scores for team positions other than first place will use the following tie-break system:

1. Head-to-head score If only two teams are tied, the winner of a match between the two teams

If there is a three-way tie or if two teams are tied and there is no head-to head 8

match, then:

2. Solkoff match points The sum of all opponents' final match points.

3. Amateur (Teams) For each round, the final score of the opposing team is multiplied by the

number of points scored against that team. For example, if Team A scored 3 1/2 - 1/2 against Team B, which finished the tournament with 2 match points, Team A's tie-break for that round is 3 1/2 X 2 = 7.

4. Modified Median match points The sum of opponents' match points discarding some high or low scores:

o for teams with "plus" scores (more wins than losses) -- the lowest scoring opponent is discarded

o for teams with "even" scores -- the highest and the lowest scoring opponents are discarded

o for teams with "minus" scores -- the highest scoring opponent is discarded

These scores are adjusted for unplayed matches (byes, forfeits, unplayed games), which count a half point each.

RATINGS The most recent ratings supplement will be used to determine the ratings of players entered into the state team and individual tournaments. The tournament director reserves the right to pair the tournament based on ratings published on the US Chess Federation MSA Ratings page http://www.uschess.org/msa/MbrLst.php if possible within time constraints and applied equally across all participants.

RULES FOR TEAM PLAYOFFS (Game / 5; Championship sections, first place ONLY).Ties for first place ONLY will be broken by a head-to-head, Game /5, 4 board

playoff. A coin flip will determine the color assignment with the lower rated team calling the toss and the winner of the toss selecting their color for boards 1 and 3 (boards 2 and 4 will play the opposite color). If additional rounds are necessary the color order will be alternated. Each player will set their clocks for 5 minutes; if an electronic clock is used it will be set so that there is no time delay. Players must handle the clock with the same hand with which they handle the pieces. Players may not hover and keep a hand over the clock and must remove their hand from the clock after depressing the button. Any player accidentally knocking over or displacing pieces on the board MUST replace all pieces on his/her own time and before punching the clock. TOUCH MOVE RULES ARE IN EFFECT. If a player makes an illegal move and then hits his/her clock, the opponent should immediately stop both clocks. After verification, the TD shall add 2 minutes to the opponent’s clock one time. Illegal moves unnoticed by a player cannot be corrected after an opponent’s subsequent move. A game is won by a player

who has checkmated his/her opponent whose opponent resigns

whose opponent forfeits on time (assuming that the player has mating material).

TEAM PLAYOFF RESULTS. The winner of the Game / 5 playoff will be called the Champion for that section and will be awarded the first place trophy. The other team(s) will be designated Co-Champion(s) and will be awarded appropriate place trophies. It is perfectly acceptable for a Co-Champion to be so designated on the trophy.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR LIMITED ENTRY TOURNAMENTS USCF ARNOLD DENKER TOURNAMENT. The Individual High School Champion

will be invited. If the Champion is unable to attend, then the next highest placing eligible player in the High School individual section will be invited. The Denker rules require that all participants be enrolled in high school during the current school year. If the High School champion is not yet a high school student, the invitation will go to the next highest placing eligible player in the High School individual section.

KENTUCKY JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. The current Junior Champion, the top two Action finishers (G/30), the High School Champion, and the top two G/60 finishers will be invited for a total of 6 players. If any of these qualifying events are not held, then replacements or alternates will be selected based on finishing order in the Kentucky Open “Open” section. A junior player is defined as someone who will be under 21 years of age for the entire calendar year.

MATCHES WITH OTHER STATES. Invitations sent to the highest rated players in each category of the match based on the previous annual list and the availability to play. No such matches are currently planned.

Introduction

The Kentucky Scholastic Committee is an agency of the Kentucky Chess Association (KCA) and the Scholastic Coordinator is an officer of the KCA and a member of the KCA Board of Directors. The authority to construct these Regulations for the conduct of The Kentucky Scholastic Chess Championships is in Article IV section 6 of the KCA bylaws, revised 2002. The KCA Board of Directors is the final authority as to the meaning of these regulations.

The State Scholastic Championships will be held in five divisions: High School (12th grade and below), Middle School (8th grade and below), Elementary (5th grade and below), Primary (3rd grade and below) and Novice (1st grade and below). Each tournament will be a USCF rated event.

Kentucky is divided into four quad regions (QUADS) each of which will consist of four regions. Regional tournaments for teams will be held in each QUAD followed by the team finals tournament for the teams that qualified through the regionals.

Novice or alternates sections may also be held in conjunction with any of these tournaments. Reasonable adjustments in the format may be made by the director in the event of a very large or very small number of participants.

All players on a team must come from the same school as defined in the USCF scholastic regulations (which does not include feeder schools). The school sponsor (if any) is responsible for the determination of the players and the board order of a school’s team.

NOVICE SECTIONP.1. The individual Novice championship will be conducted in conjunction with the

other individual championships in the spring. P.2 The Novice Team championship will be conducted as part of the individual

championship. The tournament will be paired so that the selection of an individual champion is the priority.

HIGH SCHOOL, MIDDLE SCHOOL, ELEMENTARY and PRIMARY SECTIONS

INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS1. The individual championships will be conducted in these four divisions in a

manner to be determined annually by the Scholastic Coordinator.

TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

Each QUAD will be assigned four qualifying positions in each division. The QUAD organizer will be responsible for conducting one or more regionals in the QUAD which will lead to qualification for finals.

2. Teams in the Championship sections of finals2.1 A team will consist of four players listed in order of their ratings and 2 (two)

alternates (optional).2.2 Once an Alternate is substituted in he/she must finish the tournament. There

is no subbing in and out.2.3 Team play will be team vs. team matches of four games and team scoring will

be by match points.2.4 The tie-break will be 1) head-to-head, 2) US Amateur (Teams), 3) Solkoff

match points, 4) Modified Median match points.

3. QUALIFYING FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP SECTIONS OF THE FINALS3.1 Only players from Kentucky schools are eligible for the finals. To compete in

a Championship Section of the finals a team must qualify in a certified regional.

3.2 A team may qualify for the finals only in their own QUAD.3.3 Ties for qualifying will be broken.3.4 A school can qualify only one team in each division.3.5 A team qualifies as a team; player rosters do not have to remain the same

from regionals to finals.

4. REGIONAL QUALIFIERS (Quad Tournaments)4.1 Only teams and individuals from that QUAD may participate in the regional.4.2 The format of each Quad Regional will be a team modified Swiss.4.3 The organizers of regional tournaments will be responsible for providing

trophies.4.4 The 16 regions will be the same as the athletic regions except for Madison,

Meade, Montgomery, Russell, Rockcastle and Scott county schools. The QUADS are as follows: Quad A consists of regions 1-4. Quad B consists of regions 5-8, plus Meade. Quad C consists of regions 9-12, plus Scott and Russell. Quad D consists of regions 13-16, plus Madison, Montgomery, and Rockcastle.

4.5 Tie-break systems used in each regional will be determined by the Quad organizer.

4.6 A school may not have more than one team in any section of the regionals.4.7 Qualifying teams must consist of at least three (3) players.

5. THE KENTUCKY SCHOLASTIC COORDINATOR AND THE SCHOLASTIC COMMITTEE

The Scholastic Coordinator shall be elected by all KCA members present at the State Scholastic Team Championships in a meeting called for that purpose only. (Article V section 3, KCA Bylaws, revised 2002). The election shall occur in odd numbered years for a two year term.

5.1 The committee consists of the Scholastic Coordinator, the president of the KCA and an organizer from each of the QUADS who shall be selected by the Scholastic Coordinator.

5.2 The committee shall meet at the time and place of the State Individual Championships.

5.3 Revisions to these regulations shall require written presentation and the approval of the Kentucky Scholastic Chess Committee and the Board of Directors of the KCA.

5.4 The Scholastic Coordinator shall compose the list of certified regionals, ensure its proper distribution, and be responsible for the conduct of the state scholastic championships.

Tournament Entry Information for the2011 State Chess Championship Series

For information about the QUAD tournaments, please contact the individual Quad Coordinator or visit the KCA website.

The State Team Championships will be a 4 round G/60 head-to-head competition. A team will consist of 4 players arranged in USCF rating order from highest (board 1) to lowest (board 4) according to The USCF Official Rules of Chess, Section 31B. The team coach will designate one non-alternate player as the team captain. For the purpose of pairing, team ranking will be calculated based upon the average ratings of the top 4 players entered. Unrated players must be placed on the lowest boards, for example, one unrated player would have to play board four, two unrated players would have to play boards four and three, three unrated players would have to play boards four, three and two. Unrated players will be assigned a rating based on the following: an unrated on board two is assigned 50 points below the rating of board one. An unrated on board three is assigned 50 points below the rating of board two. An unrated on board four is assigned 50 points below the rating of board three. In no case will an unrated player be assigned a rating less than 100. In addition, a team with all four boards unrated will be assigned a rating of 500 . Teams will then be paired like individuals in a Swiss System tournament.

To enter the State Team Championship you must fill out the appropriate entry form with the list of players (arranged by rating/board order) and mail it with the appropriate entry fee for those 4 players (5 or 6 if you list alternates on the form) to the KCA Scholastic Coordinator (make the check(s) payable to Kentucky Chess Association). The entry fee for each team is $20 per player if postmarked before Wednesday, February 23, 2011. For entries postmarked after February 23, 2011 the late entry fee is $30 per player. Make certain that accurate contact information for the coach or sponsor is on the entry form in the event of questions. There should be only one entry form per team. ENTRY FORMS MUST BE TURNED IN AND MUST BE ON TIME. IF NO ENTRY FORM IS RECEIVED BY FEBRUARY 26, 2011, THE SCHOLASTIC COORDINATOR MAY REPLACE THAT TEAM TO INSURE A FULL FIELD. TURN IN ENTRY FORMS!!!! Any alternate listed will be automatically entered in the Alternates Tournament until the tournament organizer is notified by the coach of the school in question that the player will be acting as a substitute for the team. Coaches have the right to substitute the alternate at any time, however once made, this substitution is permanent. Substitutions must be made on the line-up form provided, before the end of the prior round.

There will be no onsite registration at this event. The Tournament Organizer is the KCA Scholastic Coordinator.

Rounds will start at 9:00, 11:30, 1:45 and 4:00 followed by trophy presentations ASAP.

In the event that one or more Quad tournaments do not produce 4 State-qualified teams in any section, the KCA Scholastic Coordinator will allow teams finishing below the top 4 in

their Quad to enter the State Team Championship to complete the field of sixteen teams. For this reason, a team finishing 5th - 8th in their Quad should remain ready to play on March 5th. This decision will be made as early as possible to allow the affected team(s) the maximum amount of time to prepare. The KCA Scholastic Coordinator will contact the coach of the additional team(s) should additional slots be available. The State Alternates Tournament will be a 4 round G/60 standard accelerated Swiss System Tournament. The times for these games will parallel the times for the Team Championship. The Team Alternate(s) listed for the Team Championship will automatically be entered into this tournament.

This tournament is restricted to the two alternates per qualifying team. No other players may enter this tournament.

Rounds will start at 9:00, 11:30, 1:45 and 4:00 followed by trophy presentations ASAP. All times are Eastern Standard Time.Tournament date and location: March 5, 2011 University of Louisville Student Activity Center, Louisville, Kentucky

The State Individual Championships for K-12, K-8 and K-5 will be a 5 round G/90 Swiss System individual tournament. Pairings will be accelerated if the number of entries is large enough.

Rounds 1-3 will be conducted on Saturday at 12:00, 3:15 and 6:30 and Rounds 4-5 on Sunday at 10:00 and 1:30 followed by the trophy presentations at 4:45. All times are Central Time.

Any scholastic player residing in Kentucky is eligible for this tournament. Since this is an individual event, players from the same school may be paired against each other.

The registration form and early bird discount entry fee of $20 is due on March 8, 2011. Regular entry fee is $30 if postmarked on or after March 8, 2011 and received no later than March 17, 2011. Last minute and on-site registration is allowed at this tournament for a total entry fee of $50 and will be accepted until 9:30 Central Time on Saturday March 19.Tournament dates and location: March 19-20, 2011 Holiday Inn University Plaza-Bowling Green, KY.

The State Individual Championships for sections K-3 and K-1 will be a 5 round Swiss System individual tournament. Pairings will be accelerated if the number of entries is large enough. Rounds 1–4 are G-30 - Round 5 is G-45.

All four rounds will be played on Saturday at 11:00, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 4:00 followed by trophy presentations ASAP. All times are Central Time.
