Sportspro began this week and will continue for K-2 tomorrow. Mandarin lessons began this week too with the teacher visiting classes in person. This is such a wonderful opportunity for our students and prepares them for 21st Century learning and of course to be global citizens. Working Bee. This will be held on Saturday 18 May from 12.30-4.30pm. A barbeque will be provided. We need helpers to move debris, top up the sand pit and to prune, dig and mulch. Please keep this day free as we endeavour to make our school playground look fabulous for our children. Finally and most importantly, Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mothers and grandmothers. Please let your families spoil you on Sunday and thank you for all that you do. Yours in quality education. Caron Dodd Caron Dodd Principal

Premier’s Reading Challenge 2013 Once again our children have taken on the Premiers’ Challenge with great enthusiasm and we have been involved since its inception in 2001. Not content with just completing the PRC we have some students going beyond their age group and reading books from the lists above them. All our classes have taken up the challenge this year. The K-2 Challenge is open to students in ES1 and Stage 1. These students must experience 30 books. In Stage 2 and 3 students must read 20 books. This is an amazing effort especially for those children who find reading difficult. The Challenge ends on 31st August and we are well on the way already in 2013. The following is a list that I will update in each Newsletter of the students that have completed the challenge. SRC Update 2013 has already been a productive year for the SRC. Last term they helped organise Crazy Hair Day, which raised money for Variety Club, and Clean up Australia Day. In response to Earth Hour, the SRC decided we needed posters in all classrooms to help remind us to turn off the lights when we leave the room. These posters are currently in the process of being completed. Our school leaders also wrote a letter to Woolworths to thank them for all the resources we received from the 2012 Earn and Learn Program (see extract below).

April 12, 2013

Dear Woolworths Earn and Learn team Thank you for all the equipment we received from the 2012 Woolworths Earn and Learn program.

We were all so excited when the boxes arrived just a couple weeks ago and could not believe how much we had been given! The equipment was quickly unpacked so we could start using it straight away.

We greatly appreciate all of the resources and are all looking forward to earning more points this year. Thanking you,

Oliver, Jasmine, Mark and Ella (School Leaders) On behalf of the students of Kenthurst Public School

Ridges PSSA Website and Twitter Account

Ridges PSSA has had a large increase in students participating in sport over the past few years. With this increase has come a greater demand for information regarding PSSA sport, draws, venues, trials and sport cancellations. This has meant a large portion of conveying this information has fallen upon individual schools, especially people staffing the front office. Schools in the Ridges PSSA have been developing better methods of communication this information to the wider community to ease the burden on schools. Ridges has a website where information, such as trials, PSSA draws, venues, results, points tables, outstanding achievements and cancellations are located. Attached is a TWITTER ACCOUNT where you can receive up to the minute information regarding PSSA cancellations and trial information. We URGE you to utilise both, as the demand on schools has become an issue as the school communities expand.
