At long last, after 5 years, many negotiations with politicians and The Hills Shire Council, we will have a Student Crossing installed out of the front of the school. This is wonderful news! During the next school holidays the crossing will be installed for our use beginning of Term 4. There have been many incidences of near misses with students, little children in prams and our grandparents, as this busy street struggles to deal with 4 wheel drives, buses and parking issues. There will be parking changes that are necessary to accommodate the crossing, but this inconvenience is worth it. Our children are too precious and the number one priority is to have our children and families cross this road safely. Thank you in advance for your understanding and support in making our school a safer place. Our Olympic Day on Tuesday was a resounding success. Glorious weather and a real sense of authenticity had the children buzzing with excitement. In this day and age of technology, we are ever mindful of ensuring our students are aware of their responsibilities, when bringing a Mobile Phone to school. We have a Kenthurst Public School Gadget Device permission note that needs to be read and signed by parents and returned to school before any phone is permitted to come on school grounds, notes are available from the front office. All phones are to be taken to the office for the day and there they are stored safely. In the afternoon after the bell has rung, students are to collect their mobile phones from the front office. If an urgent message from parents is needed, may I suggest that you contact the front office as well and speak to one of our managers, who can deliver the message personally. Kindergarten 2017 Enrolments are now being accepted for Kindergarten next year. Our unique and fabulous Transition program will begin soon. Times and dates are on our website. Please remind families and neighbours that enrolment needs to be completed this term. Our students are working diligently on Tournament of Minds, their Eisteddfod pieces and choral work. A very busy term As the sunny weather returns, we look forward to some great performances and results here at ‘The School of Choice’. Yours, in quality education. Caron Dodd Principal

Olympic Day Tuesday marked the day that the Olympics visited Kenthurst PS. Students were very excited to be participating on the day which proved to be exceptional. Thanks to the Be Skilled Be Fit team, students were treated to their very own opening ceremony including a procession of teams and the lighting of a cauldron. This was followed by participation in ten different activities. Students were in country teams working together to earn the most points which promoted the spirit of the Olympics. The Great Britain team were the victors but everyone was a winner because they all participated and did their personal best. It was a great day which was enjoyed by everyone including the teachers. Thank you Be Skilled Be Fit! Edwina Shaw Assistant Principal

Week of Taste Stage 2

On Monday and Tuesday of Week 3, Stage 2 participated in some interesting learning experiences which focussed on our tasting skills. We wore our blindfolds and chefs hats to cover our eyes to see whether we could identify different food items and compare the different types of taste. Stage 2 enjoyed the taste of the refreshing mint, loved the sweet taste of lemonade and thought the ginger that they tried was “a bit spicy and weird”. I think the highlight of the day was definitely appreciating how different chocolate tasted in total silence compared to eating it in a loud and noisy environment! On the Tuesday afternoon, Stage 2 were also treated to a visit from butcher Shannon Walker. The students were lucky enough to taste different types of pork including ham, salami and crackling. We got to appreciate the different types of textures of the pork and compare the different flavours. Kenthurst may be lucky enough to have a number of master chefs in the future from our fantastic week of learning! Nick Starr & Melissa Gorman Stage 2 Teachers
