2014 EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES during LUNCHTIMES

Each year the teachers organise Extra Curricular activities for our students at lunchtime, and this year they have

volunteered to organise an even greater range of engaging and exciting activities. This will allow students to develop new

skills, make new friends, learn to cooperate in groups and make a commitment to their team for the Term.

It is important for the students to attend all rehearsals and/or trainings, so that their team is successful if required to perform

at assemblies/special events or compete in sporting events.

We would really appreciate it if parents would help encourage or remind their children to attend ALL sessions during the

Term. A timetable has been provided (above) indicating when the activities are being held.

We are looking forward to having fun with interested students.

Knox Festival Dunking Machine: Mr Martin has volunteered to represent Kent Park Primary

School at the Knox Festival this Saturday. He will be

appearing at 12:30 so if you would like the chance to get

him a little wet come along and give it your best shot. All

funds will be going to a family in the local community who

are having upgrades to their home to help their disabled

child. Rhys Martin

IMPORTANT PREP REMINDERS We would like to remind parents/guardians that the Prep

students will be –

attending school for the full 5 days commencing next

week Monday 3rd

March

dropping off schoolbags to the line up area on the Prep

side on MONDAY mornings (prior to school starting)

and walking straight to the assembly hall as the music

is playing at 8.55am.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL COUNCIL REMINDERS: 2014 School Council Nominations will close on

Thursday 6th

March. We invite all members of the

community to consider this important role and remind

them that attendance at the 8/9 monthly meetings is

essential to be able to actively contribute.

Knox Council officers will continue to patrol

schools, particularly in peak drop off and pick up

times. We urge all drivers to be safe around the school

and abide by the parking and speed limit rules. Drivers

must abide by the ‘drop off’ bay signed regulations –

NO DOUBLE PARKING!!. Cars are not to be left

unattended in this area. Parking over driveways and

nature strips is STRICTLY prohibited at all times. The

safety of our students and thoughtful consideration for

our neighbours' property are imperative. Pedestrians

(students and parents) are also reminded to use the

Council crossings before and after school.

It is extremely dangerous and unacceptable to allow

children to cross the road between parked cars.

Students (even with a parent) are not permitted to

enter or exit the school via the staff car park before

and after school. This rule is a DEECD safety

regulation and ensures the safety of all members of our

community.

In line with DEECD regulations dogs are not permitted

in the school grounds. Please ensure that dogs are

leashed away from the main gate entrances, when

collecting children.

Smoking is strictly prohibited on DEECD grounds and

we ask that parents refrain from smoking near the

entrances.

Please ensure that your child has their bucket hat at

school at all times. We must abide by the Sunsmart

“NO HAT, NO PLAY” rule during Terms 1 and 4.

Students will be required to sit in the foyer during play

times if not protected with the school bucket hat. The

application of sunscreen at the beginning of the day is

advisable.

To ensure the wellbeing and safety of all community

members students are reminded not to play ball games

and chasey games between 8.45am and 9am, and

3.30pm and 3.45pm. The riding of SCOOTERS and

BIKES is also strictly prohibited in the playground

during these hours.

To ensure student safety please close pedestrian gates

if you are exiting the school grounds after 9.00am.

Parents are reminded to only enter classrooms when

teachers are present. During class times we ask that

corridors and breezeways e.g. Greenland Tunnel and

Alley remain quiet and clear.

On wet day mornings students are permitted to enter

classrooms at 8.45am. Years 1 and 2 children are

reminded to wait under the cover way near the art

room on wet mornings, rather than at the exterior

classroom entrances near the basketball courts.

Any student arriving after the bell at 9am must report

to the Office with their parent/guardian for a late pass

and be escorted to their class.

When returning from school after being absent for one

or more days please complete an Absence Slip

(attached) and return to the classroom teacher. This

slip replaces the need to write a note explaining a

child’s absence. This process simplifies the procedure

for parents and the school. (Also available on Kent

Park Primary School website or office).

All students P to 6 require an art smock and library bag

to participate effectively in these programs.

Year 4 Writers Of The Week

On the weekend I went to the Australia versus England cricket match and I was up the top of the stadium. Then I walked

over to the big screen and I touched it. It felt bumpy and from close up it just looked like lights. In the end we won. I

was happy when I got home and went to bed. When I woke up I played my windows 8 surface pro which is a tablet and

computer in one. Then I went to basketball, we lost the scores were 12-2. Then we went home and my dad got some

foam and we made a sort of surface for my surface pro. Then we got our cricket stuff and played in the cages. Then I

went home and had dinner and went to bed.

The Time of My Hot Shot Experience

On Tuesday it was the day of me playing on Rod Laver Arena. It felt like a dream when I was playing, but it also felt

like a normal court. I played on there for about 20 minutes. Then I met Roger Federa, Venus Williams, Maria

Sharapova, Victoria Azaranka, James Duckworth and lots more.

After that one of us twelve got chosen to toss a coin in a game, but I did not get chosen. Then I also watched a couple of

other games. The next day we went back to the Australian Open. I got to have a photo with the Cup, but I could not

touch it because it would leave finger prints.

It was the best 3 days of my life.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

AN IMPORTANT HEAD LICE NOTICE

We would like to advise parents/guardians of recurring head lice throughout various year levels and request

that parents be vigilant and ensure your child/children’s hair is checked regularly.

It would be appreciated if any evidence of head lice was treated prior to students returning to school for the benefit of all families to help prevent further outbreaks. A few tips for parents:

Regularly check the hair (long and short) of all family members using a fine tooth comb and white hair conditioner to help locate the bugs.

Tie back and braid long hair and apply a light coat of hair spray daily. Check the nape of the neck for rashes and scratching. All family members to be checked and treated if necessary.

Guidelines for treating Head Lice While children are at school many families will have contact with head lice. The information contained on the

website below will help you treat and control head lice. We have also attached a copy of the Department of

Health guidelines for treating headlice for your information.
