Absence trends are monitored across the organisation and specific programs are designed and implemented to address these issues to prevent further absence.

Statistical reports showing the causes of absence

Identification of who (anonymised but identity of where management level) that interventions have occurred to reduce these issues and detailing actions taken

The organisation’s return to work policies are designed to support rehabilitation and early return to work with adjustments made to accommodate this when necessary.

Within the return to work procedure, it states the possibility of acquiring further support from other disciplines to aid the staff member in returning to work at the earliest opportunity. This may include the possibility of workplace adjustments or the relocation of an individual to a different role

Evidence of using specialist intervention eg Occupational Health; Counselling Services

The organisation raises awareness of, and supports staff to manage, long-term conditions in the workplace.

Evidence this is included in absence policy/ return to work policy; also Induction documents

Evidence of campaigns, training events, or awareness raising around cancer, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, mental health

Evidence of staff up to date training on impending changes around the Fit Note

Evidence of up to date knowledge of Government’s proposed free occupational health ‘Health And Work Scheme’

Return On Investment• Latest: Sheffield Hallam University for NHS in

Sheffield, savings of £3 for every £1 spent• 2010 – 2012 CIPD, Price Waterhouse, Work Foundation

~ anything between £3 and £8 per £1 spent• However: Kent Mindful Employer network analysis

shows that it depends on• a) how many staff• b) average earnings• c) the intervention• Only then can YOU, for YOUR business, say what the

ROI will be

Trend: the latest CIPD & ‘Simply Health’ Sickness Absence Report (Autumn 2013) shows more and more companies are going to invest in wellbeing
