In 1948, my grandfather created Kennards Hire by opening one small outlet in Bathurst. Today, we’re still a family-owned business, despite having grown into one of Australia’s leading hire companies, and we proudly employ over 900 Australians. RAILThere is an estimated 44,000 kilometres of rail network across Australia, all requiring constant upgrading and maintenance. To serve the varying needs of rail maintenance crews, Kennards Hire Australia’s largest and most respected family owned Hire Company with over 160 branches nationwide, has established Kennards Hire Rail.

Located in 4 strategic locations including Rutherford, Dubbo, Brendale and Brooklyn, each facility features a large storage warehouse and yard plus a designated training area. This allows operators to become familiar with equipment while attaining competency on specific machinery, a new industry requirement, introduced in 2013.

Meeting your Needs:

Each team member has undergone a rigorous training program run by our suppliers. Our Rail Team possesses their (RIW) Rail Industry workers cards, along with specific track owner accreditation.

Each team member has been trained on our range of equipment with intensive on the job training. This ensures they not only understand your needs but the equipment provided is the most suitable for your project.

Compounding the difference in track gauges even further is the variation of track fasteners used across the states. In some areas timber and steel sleepers are still being used. Kennards Hire Rail carry clipping equipment to manage these assorted track fastening systems.

Today all equipment that runs on rail is considered ‘rolling stock’ and as such is viewed the same as a locomotive. This equipment is required to have the same safety equipment, such as a mechanical brake under RISBB.

Being aware of the differences has enabled Kennards Hire Rail to accommodate these requirements into the range of equipment and negate compatibility or compliance issues. This makes Kennards Hire Rail a national supplier of rail maintenance equipment.

In conjunction with Kennards Hire Rail, GoTrain work closely with the Rail industry to offer training on our entire equipment range.

In line with legislative requirements, for rail operatives to be competent in the use of equipment, this nationally recognised training will take place at our Specialist Branches by arrangement, under the umbrella of an RTO and by a qualified trainer/assessor.

To support the lifestyles of rail operatives our courses can be offered online and/or face to face and are varied to ensure we provide the right rail industry knowledge.

Examples of courses available include:

• Manual handling and hand tools training
