Thanksgiving: The Wine III – Syrah By kellanhori, November 27, 2013, In Events, Wine Pairing Part 3: Syrah, Not Just for the French Notes from The Sommelier: Often overlooked by American wine lovers, Syrah is the long cherished master grape of the famous French wine regions: Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage and Saint-Joseph. Thanks to its delicious flavor profile of hickory, blueberry and bacon, Syrah is the best varietal to accompany rich and savory Thanksgiving dishes like stuffing and candied yams. Some wonderful examples are being produced right here in California and often rival the best Napa Valley Cabernets in style and quality–for a fraction of the price. My very favorite Californian Syrah is the 2009 Sanglier Kemp Vineyard Syrah. This decadent wine is layered with notes of dark plum, cocoa powder, and black pepper, perfect for your Turkey Day feast. Tip: Open your Syrah selection one hour before dinner and decant. Serve in the decanter and watch as your guests rave about your delicious wine choice. Then surprise your “I-only-drink-Cabernet” friends by telling them that the wine they love so much is Syrah! Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving! Cheers! Part 3: Syrah, Not Just for the French

Notes from The Sommelier:

Often overlooked by American wine lovers, Syrah is the

long cherished master grape of the famous French wine

regions: Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage and Saint-Joseph. Thanks

to its delicious flavor profile of hickory, blueberry and

bacon, Syrah is the best varietal to accompany rich and

savory Thanksgiving dishes like stuffing and candied

yams. Some wonderful examples are being produced right

here in California and often rival the best Napa Valley

Cabernets in style and quality–for a fraction of the price.

My very favorite Californian Syrah is the 2009 Sanglier

Kemp Vineyard Syrah. This decadent wine is layered with

notes of dark plum, cocoa powder, and black pepper,

perfect for your Turkey Day feast.

Tip: Open your Syrah selection one hour before dinner and decant. Serve in the decanter and watch as your

guests rave about your delicious wine choice. Then surprise your “I-only-drink-Cabernet” friends by telling

them that the wine they love so much is Syrah!

Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!

Cheers! Regina
