Di hutan di Indonesia ada bermacam-macam jenis pohon, bunga tropis, binatang clan serangga. Ada kupu-kupu yang berwarna-warni clan ada binatang seperti orang-utan, badak clan harimau.

Di hutan Sumatera terdapat bunga Rafflesia, bunga yang terbesar di dunia. Di hutan juga ada bunga clan daun untuk obat tradisional yang bernama 'jamu'. How do you say 'is' in Indonesian? Ada/ adalah/sedang.

PART 1- EXPLANATION.

First you must think: Are you talking about where something/someone is (existence/ location);

what something/someone is (definition)'; or what something/someone is doing (process).

• If you are saying something or someone is located/exists somewhere,

use ADA+ preposition+ place:

• If you are defining what the actual nature of something or someone, i.e. he/she/it is+ definition,

use ADALAH + noun:

to ' ... ing' in English Note- You can leave out is entirely if a very short description (adjective) follows:

Badak The Sumatran rhinoceros is the largest of the Indonesian rhinoceroses and can be up to one-and-a-half metres in height. It lives in the dense forests and eats leaves and bamboo. The rhinoceros has to be near water because it must keep its skin moist. In the dry season it spends most of its time in the water and wallows around in the mud along the river banks. These rhinoceroses can live for up to 20 years.

The one-horned Javanese rhinoceros used to be found in many parts of Java but is now very rare and only found in the Ujung Kulon National Park in West Java.

• Why all these rules?

Many verbs have 's' as a base, so if

there is no word found under base

'ny-', don't forget to look under

's-' when you hear 'meny-'.

In all cases these 'rules/ have simply evolved to make pronunciation easier. They are the result of moving one's mouth in preparation for the next sound one is about to make.

For example, try saying 'jelas' (clear) and think about where your tongue is when you say the 'j'.

It is close to where you also say 'n', making it easy to say 'me!}ielaskan' (to clarify, explain).

If you try saying some of the other bases and prefixes slowly while concentrating on how you make the sounds,

you will understand the logic of the way the me- and sometimes other sounds are added or subtracted before

Cerita kancil The story of kancil

The I]J.Ouse deer is hard to find in the jungle. It is a timid but cunning animal. Over the years, -many legends have ., been passed on about Si Kancil and Si Buaya. ·Here is one of the popular versions of this legend.

Si Kancil lived in the forest and because she was small she had to be careful of other

the river bank and was about to cross the river when Si Buaya launched himself out of the water with great strength and grabbed at Si Kancil's leg. · 'Help!' cried Si Kancil.

'Ha, ha, ha,' laughed Si Buaya, 'I've been waiting to eat some nice tasty kancil.'

Si Kancil was very scared and had only a few fi;}(:.;_;;~\-'.,_~ seconds to think quickly of something to save

herself from the jaws of Si Buaya. 'Pak Buaya, you are a very big and strong

animal and surely just one kancil would not be enough to satisfy your appetite.'

The kancil's foot was hurting and she knew she didn't have much longer to try out her cunning plan.

'Pak B~aya, my family are more than enough to satisfy your appetite. What if I go and get my husband and my two strong children and we will all come down to the river? That way you can let me go, but you have the chance to catch four, instead of just one thin kancil when we return.'

Si Buaya thought for a moment. His friends had often warned him about Si Kancil and how cunning she could be. But this sounded perfectly reasonable. He knew that Si Kancil

was very hungry because she had been very keen to get across the ri~er to the other side where food grew in abundance. The thought of more than one kancil for supper was worth the risk. He opened h1s wide and menacing jaws and released Si Kancil's foot. Si Kancil stood there for a mome~t. Her heart was racing. She had only a few mo:qients to set her second plan in motion.

~Pak Buaya,' she began again, 'there is only one problem. My family are all visiting friends on the other side of the river. They swam across the river this morning when 'you were sleeping in the sun.'

Si Buaya slashed his tail around in annoyance and snapped hi~ jaws a few times. He was confused. Once again Si Kancil's s~ory sounded possible. Often other animals escaped across · the river when he was basking in the morning sun. It was worth. the try. He swung his body round until he was facing the opposite bank.

'Quick,· I will take you across the river jf you promise to return with your whole family.' ·

'I promise,' said Si Kancil trying to conceal the relief and excitement in her voice. She stepped cautiously ~pan Si Buaya: s back and , rode in style across th~ .river. But when .she
