Ask  yourself  these  4  quesXons  before  posXng  an  update  on  social  media:  -‐  Will  my  family  be  embarrassed?  -‐  Am  I  posXng  to  see  if  someone  will  make  me  feel

beCer  about  my  choices?  -‐  Am  I  posXng  to  hurt  someone?  -‐  Could  this  post  be  used  against  me  someday?

ASK  YOURSELF  FIRST…

GENERAL  SAFETY  TIPS

•  If  you  see  someone  else  doing  something  on  a  social  app  that  concerns  you,  talk  to  someone  you  trust  to  see  how  you  can  help  them.

• Don’t  ever  impersonate  another  person  in  the  social  world.  • Only  add  friends  you  know  in  real  life.  • Use  a  nickname  that  doesn‘t  idenXfy  your  locaXon,  gender,  or  age.  • Never  give  out  your  phone,  address,  personal  or  financial  informaXon  online  or  in  a  post.

• Never  meet  in  person  with  anyone  you  first  met  online.  • Don’t  post  your  plans  or  whereabouts.  • Write  down  your  password  someone  you  won’t  forget  every  Xme  you  change  it!

• Don’t  click  on  links  from  people  you  do  not  know  (email  or  online).  • Don’t  download  any  “free”  stuff  (free  games,  ring  tones  or  other  downloads)

INSTAGRAM  SETTINGS

Se>ngs:  •  The  only  informaXon  required  when  signing  up  for  Instagram  is  an  email  address  and  desired  username.

•  Phone  number  should  not  be  listed.  •  Click  Edit  Profile  and  scroll  down  to  the  boCom  and  turn  on:  “Photos  are  private”  Geotagging:  •  When  uploading  a  photo,  the  geo-‐locaXon  data  of  the  photo  can  easily  be    shared  with  your  followers  if  you  are  not  careful.

•  When  uploading  a  photo,  be  sure  to  avoid  tapping  the  buCon  to  share    locaXon.  •  In  your  phone’s  se>ngs  (not  Instagram),  turn  locaXon  services  off  by  going  To  “privacy”  and  then  “locaXon  services”.  •  If  you  accidentally  approve  a  follower  you  don’t  want,  you  can  block  them    so  they  can’t  follow  you  anymore.
