Be kind to the honeybee and watch the fruits of your labour grow with this fantastic reader offer.

Central England Co-operative store in the Burghley Centre, Bourne, has teamed up with The Local to give away free bee friendly flower seeds to help the plight of the honeybee - continuing with its Keep the Hive Alive campaign.

T h e n o t - s o - h u m b l e honeybee is responsible for pollinating 80 per cent of the flowering plants on our planet.

This tiny, hardworking insect helps to give us apples, broccoli, strawberries, nuts, asparagus and cucumbers, to name but a few.

But with the influx of man-made pesticides, coupled with poor weather conditions, our little earthling warriors are at risk, and if they go, then so will much of the food we take for granted.

Beekeeper Richard Davies, a committee member with the Peterborough and District Beekeepers Association, is confident that if we all do a little, we can achieve a lot for the honeybee.

H e s ays : “ T h i n g s a re starting to look up for the honeybee but we are by no means in the clear just yet.

“If spring is particularly wet and nasty it will lead to a late arrival of flowers - and

the honeybee needs flowers to stay alive.

“Saying that, winter has been rather mild and, if we continue on the same course through spring, things will not look as bleak as they did at the beginning of 2013.

“All we urge is for everyone to do their bit to help these amazing creatures.

“Let your grass grow a bit longer - bees go wild for clover.
