Postgraduate Study

Courses

www.exeter.ac.uk/careers/research/pgstudy/ www.prospects.ac.uk/postgraduate_study www.targetcourses.co.uk/

Taught v research?

• PhDs and MRes courses offer professionalism in research

skills and the opportunity to pursue a specialist area of

interest

• Pursuing a research career outside academia? Then a

research degree offers both the theoretical grounding and

practical experience required by research institutions

• Many postgraduate courses can act as conversion courses

if you want to enter a different sector

• Some vocations demand a postgraduate qualification as an

entry requirement

Postgraduate Study

Useful Checks

• Thoroughly research your future Sector and Job Role to be sure

you are choosing the right course

• Is the course recognised by the relevant professional body?

• What are the employability figures of previous postgraduate

students - www.unistats.com web site gives some information on

employability

• Check how the department is rated. A department that is rated 4*

is world renowned for its research. You can check this on

www.rae.ac.uk
