Tuesday, May 12, 2015 - 9am to 3 pmJonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre Arena (LLRIB)

www.kcdc.ca/careerfairs

For the 299h consecutive year, the volunteer members of IANE Keewatin Chapter are proud to co-host the Annual La Ronge & Area Career Fair. The event is being coordinated by the Keewatin Career Development Corporation (KCDC). We encourage youth and job seekers from northern communities to bring their career desires, questions and resumes.

A new event “Hands On Careers” is featured in the centre of the arena floor. Youth who are pre-registered will learn about different trades and skills “hands on” with an instructor/mentor who will guide them through some basic skills training. Students will work one-on-one with a workplace mentor in groups of four for about 15 minutes each per station before moving on to another or the dozen or so activities. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Clarence Neault said about the career fair: “We expect over 40 displayers from all over Saskatchewan, and over 200 students from the north to participate and engage. Teachers north-wide have been busy preparing students in the classroom for the event. Exposure to careers on this scale has an impact and leaves a lasting impression on students, many of whom who would not ordinarily have this opportunity”.

Randy Johns, CEO of KCDC said: “Educators and students have been repeatedly requesting hands on experiences. This year we are pleased to meet that request, with thanks to all of the employers and skilled workers who have agreed to share their time and skills.”

STANLEY DEWALT Tool Grant Program

Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC) and Stanley Black & Decker have been in partnership since May 2011. Stanley DEWALT has shown tremendous support as an Official Supplier for approximately 14 contest areas at the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) by providing Stanley hand tools and DEWALT power tools for competitor use. In addition, due to their financial support, SCC is proud to recognize Stanley DEWALT as an Official Sponsor of the Competition.

Following SCNC, the tools used during the event are donated to eligible local schools through the Stanley DEWALT Tool Grant Program. This valuable tool collection is distributed among chosen schools through an application process. The tool package includes a variety of Stanley hand tools and DEWALT power tools such as cordless power tools, miter saws, scroll saws, and accessories. Up to six schools have annually received equipment for use in their junior or senior trade and technology programs since the inception of this partnership. The Tool Grant Program has proven to be a lasting legacy for the provinces in which the national competition is hosted.

In addition to their support of the Skills Canada National Competition, Stanley Black & Decker has become involved as a WorldSkills Team Canada Gold Level Supplier.

This partnership continues to grow and benefit young Canadian tradespeople leading up to, during, and after the Competition. Impact Statements: BladeRunners Mount Baker Secondary Sandwick Technical Education Project Stanley Tool Grant Stellys Secondary School
