Four books are enough1. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the

land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods

before me.2. You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the

form ofanything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth

beneath,or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow

down tothem or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a

jealous God,punishing children for iniquity of parents, to the third and

fourthgeneration of those who reject me, but showing steadfast

love tothe thousandth generation of those who love me and

keep mycommandments.3. You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the

Lord yourGod, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his

name.4. Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy . . .

Page 4: KC and World Religions

The Ten Commandments5. Honor your father and your mother, so that

your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

6. You shall not murder (kill).7. You shall not commit adultery.8. You shall not steal.9. You shall not bear false witness against your

neighbor.10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house;

you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

Problems with Biblical scriptures

As the soldiers and the mob tauntedthe dying Jesus, he prayed: “Father,

forgivethem, for they know not what theydo.” (Luke 23:34) Finally, after hours ofunbearable pain, he cried out, “My God,my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”(Matthew 27:46) Then he died.

Eucharist“While they were eating, Jesustook a loaf of bread, and after blessing it hebroke it, gave it to the disciples, and said,‘Take, eat; this is my body.’ Then he tooka cup, and after giving thanks he gave it tothem, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you, forthis is my blood of the covenant, which ispoured out for many for the forgiveness ofsins.” (Matthew 26:26–28)

A Call for HumilityBlessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of

heaven.Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Blessedare the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are

those whohunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be fi lled.Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed

are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for

they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted

for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of God.—Matthew 5:3–10

St Augustine“Thou has made us for thyself, O

Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee.”

He said that God must be our highest interest, and when that is the case then the next in line is our soul, then our body, then external things. We attain peace, then, only when all things are in their proper place.

The Spiritual FallFrancis Xavier (1506–1552), proudly described his mission

method in one of his letters that he sent to his superior Ignatius:

“I would gather all the boys of the village and go to the place where they had made and worshipped the idols; and then the dishonour heaped on the devil was greater than the honour paid to him by the parents and relations of the boys at the time when they made and venerated the idols. For the boys would take the idols and break them to tiny pieces, and then they would spit on them and trample them under foot and do other things which perhaps it is

better not to record in detail, thus showing their contempt for the one who had the impertinence to demand the veneration of their fathers.”

The Western expansion of Islam:

The invasion of Spain in 711 and the spread of the Moors into southern France, where they were repelled by Frankish ruler Charles Martel in 732. Spain itself was finally recaptured only in 1492, when the army of King Ferdinand of Aragon and Queen Isabel of Castile retook Granada.

The Crusades, beginning in 1095 and lasting until 1291, pitted Muslims and Christians in battles

The invasions of Austria and Croatia by the Ottoman Turks in the late 17th century also portrayed Turkish Muslims as barbaric and uncivilized.

there was Guru Nanak and Guru Granth Sahib. Is that actually a real scripture, and was Guru Nanak actually a devotee? Or is that not correct?

Prabhupäda: They created a system of religion which can include Hindus and Muslim. That was at the time needed. But that is not a good system of religion.

The Hare Krishna Explosion – Hayagriva Pr: “We are also in a kind of chariot with

Krishna. That chariot is this material body, and within the heart Lord Krishna is present as the Supersoul, witnessing all our activities.” Paraphrasing Srila Prabhupada, the author further writes, “He then reminds us that we should never fret when confronted with adversities, for we should always know that Lord Krishna is driving our chariot.”

Page 55: KC and World Religions

Prabhupada uses gauna-vritti

Symbolically, mother Devaki's constant fear of Kamsa was purifying her. A pure devotee should always fear material association, and in this way all the asuras of material association will be killed, as the sad-garbhasuras were killed by Kamsa. It is said that from the mind, Marici appears. In other words, Marici is an incarnation of the mind. Marici has six sons: Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Mada and Matsarya (lust, anger, greed, illusion, madness and envy). The Supreme Personality of Godhead appears in pure devotional service. This is confirmed in the Vedas: bhaktir evainam darsayati. Only bhakti can bring one in contact with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Supreme Personality of Godhead appeared from the womb of Devaki, and therefore Devaki symbolically represents bhakti, and Kamsa symbolically represents material fear. When a pure devotee always fears material association, his real position of bhakti is manifested, and he naturally becomes uninterested in material enjoyment. When the six sons of Marici are killed by such fear and one is freed from material contamination, within the womb of bhakti the Supreme Personality of Godhead appears. Thus the seventh pregnancy of Devaki signifies the appearance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. After the six sons Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Mada and Matsarya are killed, the Sesa incarnation creates a suitable situation for the appearance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In other words, when one awakens his natural Krsna consciousness, Lord Krsna appears. (SB 10.2.8 p)

Page 56: KC and World Religions

How humans abuse higher intelligence

"The human being is endowed with a higher, advanced stage of consciousness for

getting relief from the existence of material miseries, but due to his

ignorance he thinks that his higher consciousness is meant for advancing in the

material comforts of life. Thus his intelligence is misused in the animal

propensities—eating, sleeping, defending and mating—instead of spiritual

realization.">>> Ref. VedaBase => SB 3.10.26
