Training Program On Management Skills: Managerial Competencies“Good management is the art of making problems so interesting and their solutions so constructive that everyone wants to get to work and deal with them.” – Paul HawkensA two-day training program for Kohinoor Group employees on ‘Management Skills: Managerial Competencies’ was conducted by Kohinoor Business School (KBS) Director General Dr N M Kondap and PGDM Program Head Prof Sandeep Sawant at KBS. In today’s global economy, a company’s long term success is determined by the ability of its senior management to lead effectively through periods of economic uncertainty. Today, the senior management has to deal with not only external factors but also with internal issues and challenges. They have to constantly find ways to help the organization evolve and rise above the rest.To cultivate the required management skills, a training program was organized to develop Managerial Competencies. The session covered an understanding of self and team, how to leverage leadership style by tweaking as necessary, developing network, developing strategic framework, a practice session using SWOT analysis, and finally, concluded with ‘P’ Principles, that is, Planning, Prioritizing, Preparing, Preventing, Pursuing and Personal Initiatives. The program was interactive, egging the trainees to participate actively in the practical sessions and actually put into practice the skills taught to them during the session. After this, they presented their work which was assessed and evaluated to give them an idea of where they stand at present and further decide how they could implement the principles taught to better themselves.

CEO Sameer Joshi quickly ventured into a globally recognized management concept of problem solving, called the Fish-Bone Approach. Often referred to as Cause and Effect Diagram, the Fish-Bone is a simple tool that quickly gathers ideas through brainstorming, that is, ‘causes’ for the desired effect, which was ‘How to double the business in 2015.’ With over 25 participating members actively contributing in the session, a total of 80 creative business ideas were generated in a two-hour long session. The ideas were broadly classified under heads like Product, Process, People, Technology, Extrinsic and Others in line with the CEO’s ‘Five-Point Business Strategy.’
