FROM MICHAEL KLEIN,

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear residents,

By now it is official and we are on our way

to being Kavod Senior Life. I have heard so

many people tell me what a powerful

name this is and how much they love it. Let

me share with you what Elizabeth

Dubinsky, our Assisted Living Resident

Care Coordinator had to say about what

the name meant to her. She wrote, “Listen

before speaking. Know that each resident

has their own story, their own experience,

their own perspective and their own way

of doing things. I choose to work with

seniors because I think that it is an HONOR

to be witness to this stage of life. Kavod

guides the interactions that I have with the

residents. It guides the decisions that I

make and the way that I view each

resident. Kavod helps me to view each

resident as a unique individual, with

unique challenges and strengths.” What a

beautiful way of expressing what I hope all

the staff view their roles at Kavod.

We are all excited about the new name

and tagline. Our new tagline is “Honor.

Community. Jewish Values.” We will

continue to bring programs and services

which will support your living with us. We

will continue to upgrade our buildings and

make them fully functional and well

maintained. We will also be looking to

expand our programming into our broader

community for seniors who are either on

our waiting list or content to be living in

their own homes. We will also be looking

to develop other affordable and moderate

income housing in the community.

This will all be done guided by the Fifth

Commandment to “Honor your Mother

and Father.” This is the essence of who we

are and what we do. We will continue to

share with you how we move forward and

always welcome your feedback. Please feel

to share your ideas with me.

Warmly,

Michael Klein

Executive Director, Kavod Senior Life

Parking Issues

Please remember not to park in your

neighbor’s parking spot, you could get

towed. Also, please remind your visiting

family and friends not to park in the

assigned lot.

If someone is in your spot: Please call or

go to the front office with a description of

the car, the model if possible, and most

importantly, the license plate number. The

office will call maintenance to have them

tag the car. This offense is recorded and if

the car has more than two offenses we call

the towing company at the car owner’s

expense.

By no means park in another “empty” spot.

The spaces have all been assigned and you

will be ticketed.

The Volunteer Voice

By Sue Black, Volunteer Coordinator

Enclosed in this newsletter is a library

survey. We would like to hear from as

many of you as possible regardless of

whether you use the library frequently or

not at all, or whether you use the Russian

or English books. This survey will be used

to make decisions regarding the future of

the library here at Kavod Senior Life.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to fill

out the survey and return it either to the

Volunteer Mailbox in the West building or

to the front desk.

June 1 will be another opportunity to get

help in your apartment with small things

like moving furniture, hanging pictures,

hooking up DVD players, etc. Temple

Emanuel is sending over a group of

people to help with these handyman jobs

for their Mitzvah Day. It’s free but you

must register by May 16 by leaving me a

message at 720.382.7820 or by e-mailing

me at [email protected]. The

work will be done between 9-11:30 am so

you will need to be home during that

time period.

SAVE THE DATE: The Volunteer

Appreciation Lunch will be held on

Wednesday, June 11, this year! Invitations

will be sent out this month. Please

contact me if you do not receive an

invitation by May 23, and you have

worked as a volunteer in the past year.

The gift shop has new items all the time.

If you haven’t stopped by in a while, you

should take a look. The shop carries

everyday items at low prices like paper

towels, toilet paper, bar soap, dish soap,

and batteries as well as jewelry, perfume,

greeting cards, gifts, candy, nuts, and

other snacks. For many holidays we carry

special cards or other items. This month

we welcome new gift shop volunteer,

Veronica Loesch! We are still seeking

more volunteers for the gift shop so we

can be open more often. If you are

interested in volunteering at the gift shop

and can commit to working 1 hour or

more per week, please contact me.
