TRANSCRIPT
Why is student leadership important in education?
Leadership is about the art of motivating, influencing and
directing people so that they work together to achieve the
goals of a team. It’s important for students to experience
leadership opportunities during their schooling, to learn the
art of building relationships within teams, defining identities
and achieving tasks effectively. It also provides an opportuni-
ty to learn to identify and display effective communication
and interpersonal skills. The School Leader election for 2019 is fast approaching and it is
this time of year that we as a school start to think about what being a KPS school leader
means:
To act as good examples to all other students in terms of attitude and behaviour, uniform,
punctuality and attendance.
To represent all at KPS in promoting the good name of the school in and around our school
and community.
To uphold the school expectations and help to see that others do the same.
Working alongside the KPS staff to make our school the best it can be.
I am looking forward to our future leader speeches and what they plan to offer in their
role as KPS School Captains and School Leaders. Fiona Paine
Principal
After the Creative & Performing Arts Assembly last Thursday, one of our teachers received a message
from a parent that we have permission to share with you:
“I’m always so touched at KPS assemblies, always a tear of joy and appreciation, and today I really
valued seeing the creativity within the parents and teachers who are guiding and welcoming these
wonderful children into life. You are doing an amazing job, there’s some special staff at this school and
you’re definitely one of them ”

Community Liaison News P&C AGM A huge thank you to those people who came along to the P&C’s Annual General Meeting this week. The P&C
wouldn’t be able to function without people giving up their time to attend meetings, take minutes, manage the
finances, be president and put their hands up for the myriad of other jobs that are involved in supporting this
wonderful school. And P&C meetings wouldn’t be so enjoyable and constructive without the pleasant, supportive,
inclusive group of people who are involved! So thank you
Katoomba High School Soup Evening at Birriban
Katoomba High School are inviting future high school parents to spend some time in their outdoor bush
classroom, Birriban, and share some soup and a chat around the fire. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and
talk with high school families and see the school’s magical bush classroom.
Tuesday 20 November from 6-7pm, please RSVP to the high school on 4782 2622.
Bush Classroom Update #2
For the next three Fridays a semi-trailer will be delivering tons of mulch for our bush
classroom. We’ll really start to see the area take shape then, with the paths being
outlined and the mulch spread over the grass.
This week, the trench was dug for the timber edging that will separate the oval from
the bush classroom.
This project is jointly funded through Katoomba Public School P&C and the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.

On November 11th 1918, the armistice was signed which led to the end of the
war. 4/5T enjoyed celebrating the centenary of the signing of the armistice
by creating beautiful poppy artworks.
