Asst.Prof.Dr. Umarin Sangpanich
Umarin Sangpanich is the Head of Green-Smart Energy Technology (G-SET) Research Group and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Sriracha, Kasetsart University Sriracha campus in Thailand, where she has been since 2005. She was the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Sriracha responsible for Research and International Relations from 2015 to 2019. She received her Ph.D. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in the United Kingdom in 2013. Her research interests span energy storage management systems, renewable energy applications and power distribution systems. Much of her work has been on improving the understanding, design, performance and reliability of nanogrid and microgrid systems, mainly through the application of battery energy management, power electronics, and power systems. She also served as a consultant to industries in energy conservation. Her papers (with J. Thongpron, K. Kiratikara and C. Jivacate) “Study of moving cloud effects on the power quality of grid-connected photovoltaic system compared with simulation of PV power using a DC generator”, and (with O. Rewthong, B. Haruthaitanason, S. Thepa, P. Namprakai and K. Kiratikara) “Photovoltaic and solar thermal hybrid system using compound parabolic concentrator” received the Photovoltaic Science and Engineering Conference (PVSEC-14) Awards. Her paper (with K. L. Lo) “Design and Evaluation for Economic Feasibility of Wind Turbine and Photovoltaic Systems in Thailand” received the Thai Students Academic Conference in Europe 2012 Award from the Royal Thai Embassy. The G-SET research group has received the research funding from the Thailand Energy Conservation Fund, Energy Policy and Planning Office, Ministry of Energy since 2017 to do the research project of “A Nanogrid Photovoltaic Demonstration System by Using Innovation of Decentralized Group-Based Battery Energy Management (DBEM)”. The DBEM innovation has been designed and built to increase the energy efficiency and reliability of traditional stand-alone renewable energy systems, both grid-connected and non grid-connected, in power distribution systems. The aims of DBEM innovation are to prolong the battery lifetime and to minimize the loss of power supply, the cost of energy, and the waste of electrical energy.
