Science has transformed a life by inculcating various luxuries and made human life very

comfortable. It is science which has helped man to reach the moon, measure the depth of the

sea and revealed many secrets of the living and the non-living. Science always reveals a new

truth, a new discovery, an unknown reality. As the necessities change and so the inventions and

development. The importance of science in our day to day life can never be underestimated.

Education does not simply mean the ability to read and write, it is a wide term used to describe

the complete process of development.Exhibitions, seminars, projects, presentations, etc are the

mediums of wholesome development of the students in colleges. Science seminars and

presentations for undergraduates are the best way to enhance student's interest in science and

technology.

With an endeavour to this purpose Karnataka state science council and science forum

conducted a Kannada science seminar competition for the undergraduate students in

Government First Grade College Sirsi. Undergraduate science students from GFGC Sirsi and MES

science and arts college sirsi attended this program. This was held in Sevadala Hall, GFGC Sirsi.

Sri Janardhan Bhat, Principal GFGC Sirsi invited as Chief guest and Sulakshana, President

Student's Science forum GFGC Sirsi was in the dias. Sri Vishwalinga Prasad, Professor Physics

department GFGC Sirsi, Sri D.M.Hegde, Professor Mathematics department GFGC Sirsi, Sri

Nagaraj Naik, Biology Lecturer Marikamba PU College Sirsi, Sri ________ MES Science and Arts

College Sirsi invited as subject experts to judge kannada seminar competition.

The program started with a prayer of Lord Ganapati sung by Chandana and group. After this

students welcomed the guests and judges by presenting good books one to one.

The

event inaugurated by Chief guest, Guest and students. Manjunath, Student BSc Final year

hosted the program.

The opening speech made by chief guest Janardhan Bhat, Principal encouraged the students

with his warm and motivating words. He also expressed that it was his dream to see events like

this take place more often at the campus. Then he talked about the basic science and

technology with the basic advancement in Indian science.

Next Sulakshana President of Students Science forum made her speech on importance of

science and technology in our day today life.

After this, seminar competition started with full zeal. Most of the students from both colleges

participated in the competition.

Chandana, student from BSc final year presented her seminar on the topic : 'Periodic Table and

Pollutants'. She explained basic ideas about periodic table construction and the pollutants.

Sahana, Student from BSc final year GFGC Sirsi presented her seminar on 'Number Series and

Sequence'. Her explanation about series and sequence with day today problems was interesting.

Natesh, Student from BSc final year MES Sirsi presented his seminar on 'Why woodpeckers

don't get headache'.It was really a interesting seminar for both students and judges. Next

Megha, student from final year GFGC Sirsi made seminar on 'Angiosperms and it's types'.

Every student presented their seminars enthusiastically. Also they answered the questions and

doubts asked by judges and students satisfactorily. The guests and judges applauded the

students for their work. By considering their overall performance judges gave the marks.

Natesh from MES College Sirsi got first prize for his seminar.

Sahana from GFGC Sirsi got second prize.

Chandana from GFGC Sirsi got third prize.

These winners selected for further competition which held in Bangalore.

Guests and judges presented the prizes. At last Manjunath proposed vote of thanks. On behalf

of science forum and Science faculty, he expressed his gratitude towards Guests, staff, students

and more for completing event successfully.
